Sri Lanka has decided not to begin immediate LNG (liquefied natural gas) imports from India owing to lack of infrastructure—especially the absence of LNG storage and regasification facilities.

Though there has been an agreement in principle for LNG supply, actual implementation is delayed, and the government estimates it will take at least three years to develop the necessary infrastructure.
