Breaking glass ceilings in travel media
Pioneering travel content creator and storyteller Shenelle Rodrigo – who featured on the cover of LMD’s sister magazine Living in mid-2023 – has been named one of Lonely Planet’s 25 Correspondents for 2026, which is a remarkable international recognition of her work.
Reflecting on her nine year journey, Rodrigo says that despite doubts and setbacks, her persistence, passion and dedication to storytelling have made this dream a reality. She emphasises that every piece of her work is crafted with heart, soul and the intention of inspiring understanding through travel.
Rodrigo uses film, research and immersive experiences to showcase Sri Lanka’s cultural depth, heritage and natural beauty, while amplifying local voices and fostering meaningful conversations around sustainable tourism.
Her approach is focussed on travel that educates and connects rather than merely entertains.
The Lonely Planet Correspondent Network is a platform of passionate travellers providing firsthand insights, recommendations and authentic experiences for international audiences.
Each correspondent undergoes training on the Lonely Planet writers’ manual, ensuring high standards of storytelling.
Rodrigo’s selection not only celebrates a personal achievement but also signifies a breakthrough for Sri Lankan content creators, helping pave the way for future voices in travel media.
