පෙබරවාරි 21 වන දින ජාත්‍යන්තර මව් භාෂා දිනය

🌍International Mother Language Day is observed annually on February 21st to celebrate linguistic and cultural diversity and to promote multilingualism.

History and Origin -

The day was first proclaimed by UNESCO in November 1999, based on an initiative from 🇧🇩 Bangladesh. It commemorates the 1952 Language Movement in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh), where students and activists were killed while protesting for the recognition of their mother tongue, Bangla, as an official language.

2026 Theme -

Focuses on "Youth voices on multilingual education," highlighting how young people shape the future of linguistic diversity.

🌍භාෂාමය හා සංස්කෘතික විවිධත්වය සැමරීම සහ බහුභාෂාවාදය ප්‍රවර්ධනය කිරීම සඳහා වාර්ෂිකව පෙබරවාරි 21 වන දින ජාත්‍යන්තර මව් භාෂා දිනය සමරනු ලැබේ.

ඉතිහාසය සහ සම්භවය -

බංග්ලාදේශයේ 🇧🇩 මුලපිරීමක් මත පදනම්ව, යුනෙස්කෝව විසින් මෙම දිනය ප්‍රථම වරට ප්‍රකාශයට පත් කරන ලද්දේ 1999 නොවැම්බර් මාසයේදීය. එය 1952 දී නැගෙනහිර පකිස්ථානයේ (දැන් බංග්ලාදේශයේ) භාෂා ව්‍යාපාරය සිහිපත් කරයි, එහිදී ඔවුන්ගේ මව් භාෂාව වන බංග්ලා රාජ්‍ය භාෂාවක් ලෙස පිළිගැනීමට ඉල්ලමින් සිටියදී සිසුන් සහ ක්‍රියාකාරීන් ඝාතනය කරන ලදී.

2026 තේමාව -

තරුණයින් භාෂාමය විවිධත්වයේ අනාගතය හැඩගස්වන ආකාරය ඉස්මතු කරමින් "බහුභාෂා අධ්‍යාපනය පිළිබඳ තරුණ හඬ" කෙරෙහි අවධානය යොමු කරයි.

World Radio Day (13th February) is about celebrating a medium that is *a trusted voice for people*.

🇱🇰Radio Ceylon is the historical name for what is now known as the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC). It is 📻 ASIA'S OLDEST RADIO STATION, which began broadcasting in 1925 as "Colombo Radio".

History -

Colombo Radio :
The station was launched on an experimental basis in 1923 and officially began regular broadcasting as "Colombo Radio" on December 16, 1925, making it the first in Asia.

Radio SEAC:
During World War II, the Allied forces took over the station for their military broadcasts across South East Asia.

Radio Ceylon:
After the war, the station was handed back to the Ceylonese government and officially renamed "Radio Ceylon" on October 1, 1949. It became immensely popular throughout the Indian subcontinent in the 1950s and 1960s, known as the "king of the airwaves".

Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC):
On January 5, 1967, the Department of Broadcasting was transformed into a state corporation, changing its name to the Ceylon Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). When the country became a republic in May 1972, the station was renamed the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC), the name it uses today.

Current Status :

The SLBC continues to operate as Sri Lanka's state-owned national radio broadcaster. It has expanded its services and now broadcasts multiple channels in Sinhala, Tamil, and English on the FM and AM bands, as well as online.

SAY NO🤚 To Female Ge***al Mutilation (FGM)

International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Ge***al Mutilation is a United Nations-sponsored annual awareness day that takes place on February 6 as part of the UN's efforts to eradicate female ge***al mutilation. It was first introduced in 2003.

Ending Female Ge***al Mutilation by 2030

Female ge***al mutilation is a human rights violation that infringes on the fundamental rights of girls and women. The injury of female ge***alia for non-medical reasons can have short-term to lifelong health impacts on physical, sexual, and mental health, spanning from childhood, reproductive years, and into old age.

Today, over 230 million girls and women alive today have been subjected to FGM and require access to appropriate care services. The stakes are high: an estimated 22.7 million additional girls are at risk of undergoing FGM by 2030 unless action is accelerated. Every year, approximately 4 million girls are subjected to this practice, with over 2 million occurring before the age of five.

Zainab Jama, crowned Miss World Somalia 2025, is actively using her platform to campaign against Female Ge***al Mutilation (FGM). As a survivor of FGM, she is leveraging the "Beauty with a Purpose" segment of the Miss World competition to raise global awareness and advocate for the protection of young girls.

කාන්තා ලිංගික ඡේදනය (FGM) සඳහා එපා කියන්න

කාන්තා ලිංගික ඡේදනය සඳහා ශුන්‍ය ඉවසීමේ ජාත්‍යන්තර දිනය යනු එක්සත් ජාතීන්ගේ අනුග්‍රහය ලත් වාර්ෂික දැනුවත් කිරීමේ දිනයකි, එය පෙබරවාරි 6 වන දින කාන්තා ලිංගික ඡේදනය මුලිනුපුටා දැමීම සඳහා එක්සත් ජාතීන්ගේ උත්සාහයේ කොටසක් ලෙස පැවැත්වේ. එය ප්‍රථම වරට හඳුන්වා දෙන ලද්දේ 2003 දී ය.

2030 වන විට කාන්තා ලිංගික ඡේදනය අවසන් කිරීම

කාන්තා ලිංගික ඡේදනය යනු ගැහැණු ළමයින්ගේ සහ කාන්තාවන්ගේ මූලික අයිතිවාසිකම් උල්ලංඝනය කරන මානව හිමිකම් උල්ලංඝනයකි. වෛද්‍ය නොවන හේතූන් මත කාන්තා ඡේදනය තුවාල වීම ළමා කාලය, ප්‍රජනක වයස සහ මහලු විය දක්වා විහිදෙන ශාරීරික, ලිංගික සහ මානසික සෞඛ්‍යයට කෙටි කාලීන සිට ජීවිත කාලය පුරාම සෞඛ්‍ය බලපෑම් ඇති කළ හැකිය.

අද වන විට, අද ජීවත්ව සිටින ගැහැණු ළමයින් සහ කාන්තාවන් මිලියන 230 කට අධික සංඛ්‍යාවක් FGM වලට භාජනය වී ඇති අතර සුදුසු සත්කාර සේවා සඳහා ප්‍රවේශය අවශ්‍ය වේ. අවදානම ඉහළයි: ක්‍රියාමාර්ග වේගවත් නොකළහොත් 2030 වන විට ඇස්තමේන්තු කර ඇති පරිදි අතිරේක ගැහැණු ළමයින් මිලියන 22.7 ක් FGM වලට භාජනය වීමේ අවදානමට ලක්ව ඇත. සෑම වසරකම, ආසන්න වශයෙන් මිලියන 4ක් ගැහැණු ළමයින් මෙම ක්‍රියාවට භාජනය වන අතර, වයස අවුරුදු පහට පෙර මිලියන 2කට වඩා වැඩි ප්‍රමාණයක් සිදු වේ.

2025 සෝමාලියාවේදී ලෝක රූ රැජින ලෙස කිරුළු පැළඳි සයිනබ් ජමා, කාන්තා ලිංගික ඡේදනය (FGM) ට එරෙහිව උද්ඝෝෂනය කිරීම සඳහා තම වේදිකාව ක්‍රියාකාරීව භාවිතා කරයි. FGM වලින් දිවි ගලවා ගත් තැනැත්තියක් ලෙස, ඇය ගෝලීය දැනුවත්භාවය ඉහළ නැංවීමට සහ තරුණ ගැහැණු ළමයින්ගේ ආරක්ෂාව වෙනුවෙන් පෙනී සිටීමට ලෝක රූ රැජින තරඟයේ "අරමුණක් සහිත සුන්දරත්වය" කොටස භාවිතා කරයි.
