Beluga leaves fish on dock to thank rescuers. Boat owners were left baffled after they kept finding fresh fish neatly laid on the dock each morning. At first, they thought it was a prank. But when they checked the cameras, the truth stunned them, footage showed a beluga surfacing at night, gently placing the fish before swimming away.
The mystery traced back to the day before, when locals had used a crane from a nearby boat to lift a stranded beluga off the beach and guide it safely back into the sea. That very boat had departed from the same dock where the fish began to appear.
Researchers believe the beluga had taken note of the vessel’s shape and sound, perhaps even mistaking it for a “friendly whale” that came to its aid. They suggest the whale was offering fish the same way it would to a family member in its pod.
Since then, the beluga has returned again and again, leaving its nightly gifts, waiting for the boat, and the people who saved its life, to come back.
When asked if the deliveries were a bother, the dock owner just laughed: “Not at all, I’ve had the freshest catch in town every day for lunch, courtesy of my new whale friend.”
