Tissa Attanayake is a veteran Sri Lankan politician and the current National Organizer of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB). A graduate of the University of Kelaniya (1981–1985) with a Bachelor of Commerce (Special) degree, Tissa's entry into politics was rooted in student activism. He emerged as a dynamic leader during his university years, becoming a recognized figure within the United National P
arty (UNP)inner circle by the age of 23–25. His formal political career commenced with a historic appointment by President Ranasinghe Premadasa as the Chief Organizer of the Ududumbara Electorate. With Premadasa’s mentorship and confidence, Tissa entered Parliament in 1989 at just 28 years old, making him one of the youngest MPs at the time. His early success reflected not just political acumen but also an unwavering commitment to public service. Over the decades, he worked closely with iconic figures such as J.R. Jayewardene, Lalith Athulathmudali, and Gamini Dissanayake, absorbing wisdom and shaping his political ideology through these associations. In 2006, he achieved another significant milestone when he was appointed General Secretary of the UNP, one of the youngest ever to hold this influential position. Tissa Attanayake has held several key ministerial portfolios during his long and impactful career:
