Perched at the highest point of a cinnamon estate in Ahangama, the Round House Estate Bungalow by Perera is a poetic dialogue between architecture and landscape.
Conceived as a circular forest clearing within 12 acres of dense plantation, the bungalow opens to breathtaking 360° views over surrounding paddy fields while quietly merging with its natural context. The inner edge is defined with intention, while the outer edge dissolves organically into the trees — allowing the structure to feel discovered rather than imposed.
Zoned into asymmetrical solids and voids, the spaces mimic the experience of walking through a forest: distant vistas framed by trunks and canopies, ever-changing perspectives from every angle. A central banyan tree anchors the clearing, envisioned to one day intertwine with the home’s timber columns — blurring the boundary between the built and the grown.
Crafted entirely in natural timber, the lightweight structure gently hovers above the land, preserving its contours and minimizing its footprint. Skylights filter sunlight like a forest canopy, casting shifting pools of light that animate the interiors throughout the day.
Here, architecture doesn’t dominate the landscape — it belongs to it. 🌿
