The Workshop of the Asian Games Youth Reporter Programme – Sri Lanka took place on 2nd September at Olympic House, with 27 participants attending in person and 4 joining online.

Led by veteran journalist and publisher, and General Manager of NOC Sri Lanka, Mr. Lal Wickrematunge and Chef du Bureau (Bureau Chief) of Agence France-Presse, Mr. Amal Jayasinghe, the session gave aspiring youth reporters valuable insights into sports journalism, reporting techniques, and Olympic values.

We thank all participants for their enthusiasm and dedication!

முப்பது பிள்ளைகள் இருக்கும் வகுப்பில் ஐந்துபிள்ளைகள் மட்டும் புலமைப் பரிசில் பரீட்சையில் சித்தியடைந்தால் அவர்களைப் பாராட்டத்தான் வேண்டும்.

முப்பது மாலைகளை வாங்குங்கள்...ஐந்தினை மட்டும் பெரிதாக வாங்குங்கள். எல்லா பிள்ளைகளுக்கும் மாலையிடுங்கள். நாங்கள் பாஸாகவில்லையே... எங்களுக்கு மாலை கிடைக்கவில்லையே என்னும் ஏக்கத்தை அந்த சிறிய மாலைகள் நிவர்த்திசெய்யும்.

குழந்தைகளின் மன நிலையறிந்து , அவர்களை ஆற்றுப்படுத்துவது, உளவியல் ரீதியான பாதிப்பு ஏற்படாமல் பாதுகாப்பது ஆசிரியர், வகுப்பறை மற்றும் பாடசாலையின் கடமை.

If only five children in a class of thirty children pass the scholarship exam, they should be praised.

Buy thirty garlands...buy only five big ones. Give garlands to all the children. Those small garlands will satisfy the longing that we are not successful...we did not get the garland.

It is the duty of the teacher, the classroom and the school to understand the mental state of the children, to comfort them and to protect them from psychological harm.

📌 Passport Acquiring / Renewal Process in Sri Lanka (My Experience – 2025)

I went through the process of renewing a passport today and thought I’d share the full experience for anyone planning to do the same. Hopefully this helps you prepare better and save time.

📄 Documents Required
1. Filled K35A Form – Download (https://www.immigration.gov.lk/content/files/applications/passport_application.pdf)
• Must be filled in English, Block Capital Letters
• Checkboxes → use ✓ (not ✗)
• If renewing → include old passport number
• Clearly mark if you need One-Day Service or Normal Service
• Signature must not touch the edges of the boxes where you need to add the signature. There are two boxes. Add in both
• You can type + print and then sign, or handwrite fully
• Tip: Try a trial run on PDF first, since some boxes run out of space
2. Passport Photograph Upload Receipt from the photo studio (Studio List: https://www.immigration.gov.lk/studio_e.php)
3. Birth Certificate + Photocopy (Certification within 6 months is not required anymore!)
4. Company Letter confirming your current position/occupation
5. Photocopy of NIC + NIC
6. Photocopy of old passport detail page (if renewing)
7. Old Passport (if renewing)

🕓 Timeline & Process
• Online appointments aren’t available anymore. It’s only at premises on First Come First Serve basis.
• We arrived at the Department of Immigration & Emigration (https://maps.app.goo.gl/HLamnKN4gjns7Xzd9?g_st=ipc) at 3.30 AM. Already ~90+ people were ahead in line.
👉 If you want to finish without wasting half the day, this is the best time to arrive.
• Around 5.00 AM – security opened, people were lined up.
• Separate queues for One-Day Service and Normal Service.
• A seating area was provided, and officers went around checking and helping organize documents.
• Around 6.00 AM – moved into the next building where tokens are issued.
• Officers checked, sorted, and stapled each person’s documents.
• Around 7.00 AM – received our token. Waiting area has displays showing token numbers for the next step.
• When your token number shows → you move to the counter:
• Hand over documents
• Officer checks signatures and details
• Next counter → fingerprints taken (officers assist you)
• After that → proceed to Cashier:
• One-Day Service = 20,000 LKR
• Normal Service = 10,000 LKR
• By 7.45 AM, I was done.
• Receipt was issued with details of the collection counter.
• For One-Day Service, they say ~4 hours, but in reality it’s often done much earlier.
• You can leave and return later in the day to collect.

✅ Overall Experience
• The process was fast, efficient, and hassle-free.
• Officers were extremely helpful and guided people step by step.
• The only real issue is the queues — it’s always crowded as many people are applying or renewing passports.

⚡ Note: Be there before 4 AM and have every single document ready (certified and sorted). If you do, you’ll likely be finished within few hours of them opening the premises.

Also, Shakeel Yoonus has informed with his experience today(02/09/2025) that the color photocopies is not required. Normal photocopies would suffice. Also, as informed by him, the recertification of birth certificate by the divisional secretariat was not required as well. Thanks for updating that.

Updated experience from the comments section…

Got the token at 10am. Token number 944. At 10am token numbers 580-590 were on display in the first waiting room. Submitted the application and biometrics at 1pm. That's approximately 2 passport applications processed per minute.
Went today morning at 9.30am and collected the new passport. Not even a minute spent at the counter.
So, services are back to where it was in 2018 when I got my previous passport.

பணத்துக்காக நடக்கும் Promotion களில், ஆண், பெண் கலப்பு, பெண் ஆண் போன்றும், ஆண் பெண் போன்றும் வேடமிட்டு, ஆண் பெண்ணாகவும், பெண் ஆணாகவும் மாறும் நிலைக்கு அவர்களது உள்ளங்கள் நோய்வாய்பட்டுள்ளது.

போதைப்பொருள் 60% மான வளர்ச்சி அடைந்துள்ளது , பாடசாலைகளும் சமூகத்திலும் படியுங்கள், படிக்க வேண்டும் என்று சொல்லும் சமூகம் போதைப்பொருள் விழிப்புணர்வு செய்யாமல் இருக்கிறது… ஒரு Zombey Society ஐ நோக்கி செல்லும் அபாயம் உள்ளது

பணத்துக்காக என்றாலும் செய்யும் promotion இல் limit, Ethics இருக்க வேண்டும், கற்பிக்கும் Course களிலும் limit இருக்கிறது, கொடுக்கிற awards களிலும் பெறுமதி இருக்க வேண்டும்.

உண்மையை பேசுவதால், சொல்வதால் பலரால் வெறுக்கப் படலாம் நான் அறிகிறேன், பலர் அவர்களுக்கு பிடித்ததை மாத்திரம் பிறர் share பண்ண வேண்டும் என நினைக்கிறார்கள். பலர் தான் செய்வதை வைத்து தான் விடயங்களை சிந்திக்கிறார்களே தவிர, எது சரி? நியாயம் என்ற இடத்தில் இருந்து அல்ல. கலர் கண்ணாடிகளை கலட்டி வைத்து பார்க்க விருப்பமில்லாமல் இருக்கிறார்கள். Fact ஐ பார்க்கலாம், Analyze பண்ணலாம் Quike Judge செய்கிறார்கள். சிலர் இருக்கிற இடம் தெரியாமல் சுயநலமாக இருந்து விட்டு மடிய நினைக்கிறார்கள், ஆனால் உண்மையின் பக்கம் எப்போதும் சான்று பகிர வேண்டும், ஒத்துழைப்பு வழங்க வேண்டும். போஸ்ட்கள் விளம்பரத்துக்காகவும் அல்ல, சுய இலாபதுக்காகவும் அல்ல, லைக்ஸ்களுக்காக அல்ல, அதை நான் எதிர்பார்க்கவும் இல்லை, ஆனால் எனக்கு நன்றாக தெரியும் எனது செய்தி மக்களை சென்று அடைகிறது என்று. இந்த உலகத்தில் யாரும் பாதிக்க படாமல் நீதி நிலை நாட்டப்பட வேண்டும் என்பதுக்கு தான். உண்மைக்கும் நீதிக்கும் என்றும் பக்க பலமாக இருங்கள், ஒரு Share அல்லது like ஆகவும் சரி.

I know that many people may be hated for speaking the truth, and many people think that others should only share what they like. Many people think about things based on what they do, not from a place of justice. They are unwilling to look at things through colored glasses. They won’t see the fact, analyze it, and but they make quick judgments. Some people want to be selfish and die without knowing where they are, but the truth should always be shared and supported. Posts are not for advertising, not for self-profit, not for likes, I don't expect that, but I know very well that my message will reach people. It is for the sake of justice to be established without anyone being affected in this world. Always be strong for truth and justice, be it a Share or a Like.
