Timothée Chalamet endured a difficult evening at the Oscars after missing out on the Best Actor award, with the honor instead going to Michael B. Jordan. The 30-year-old actor had been considered a strong contender for his role in Marty Supreme, but the award was ultimately announced by last year’s winner Adrien Brody in Jordan’s favor. When Jordan’s name was called, Chalamet appeared visibly disappointed, though he still applauded politely and seemed to quietly mouth “yay” while the surprised Sinners star embraced his mother, Donna, before heading to the stage.
Jordan, now celebrating his first Academy Award win, delivered an emotional speech, thanking both the audience and supporters who have followed his journey throughout his career. “Thank you to everyone here and everyone watching at home for believing in me,” he said. “Your support means everything. You’ve continued to bet on me, and I’m grateful for that.”
The night proved especially tough for Chalamet, who also became the subject of jokes from host Conan O’Brien referencing the recent buzz around his “opera and ballet” comment. The Best Actor race was highly competitive this year, with nominees including Leonardo DiCaprio (One Battle After Another), Ethan Hawke (Blue Moon), and Wagner Moura (The Secret Agent). Meanwhile, Jordan stood proudly on stage, smiling as he accepted the prestigious Best Actor trophy.
