අද (29) සිට වැසි තත්ත්වයේ වැඩිවීමක් අපේක්ෂා කරන බව කාලගුණ විද්‍යා දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව පවසයි.
එහි අධ්‍යක්ෂ මෙරිල් මෙන්ඩිස් මහතා සඳහන් කළේ, අන්දමන් දූපත් ආශ්‍රිත අඩු පීඩන කලාපයේ බලපෑම මීට හේතුවී ඇති බවය.

ඊසාන දිග මෝසම ක්‍රමයෙන් දිවයින හරහා ස්ථාපිත වෙමින් ඇති බව ද ඔහු පැවසුවේ ය.

නැගෙනහිර, මධ්‍යම, ඌව හා සබරගමුව පළාත්වලත් ගාල්ල හා මාතර දිස්ත්‍රික්කවලටත් මිලිමීටර් 100 පමණ තද වැසි ඇතිවිය හැකි බව කාලගුණ අනාවැකියේ සඳහන්වේ.

We don’t know the state of the negotiations that have been going on, but we know they’ve been going on. Efforts to keep this truce going will be intense.

But don’t forget that when this process is over, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says his troops are planning to continue their operations in Gaza with what he calls “full force”.

ICC to deliberate on SLC’s suspension, hosting of U-19 World Cup today

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is slated to make a decision in respect of the temporary ban imposed on the national cricket governing body today (Nov.21).

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) was suspended by the ICC on November 10, on account of the failure to manage its affairs autonomously and ensure that there was no government interference in its governance, regulation and administration.

Foreign media reported that the ICC’s board meeting scheduled for today in Ahmedabad would deliberate the suspension of SLC, the future of ODI cricket and the revival of a high-performance program aimed at the top Associate nations and some Full Members.

During the meeting, the ICC board members will also deliberate on the conditions for lifting the suspension and whether Sri Lanka should remain hosts of the Men’s Under-19 World Cup in January and February.

The opinion of ICC’s Deputy Chairman Imran Khwaja, who visited here in May on a fact-finding mission, is said to be highly influential at this meeting.

Fairly heavy showers are expected in parts of the island

The Meteorology Department says showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in most island provinces after 01.00 p.m.

Fairly heavy showers above 75 mm are likely at some places in Central, Sabaragamuwa, North-western and Uva provinces.

Showers may occur at some places in Northern and Eastern provinces and in Hambantota district during the morning too, it said.

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and Uva provinces during the morning.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Sea Areas:

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in sea areas around the Island particularly during the afternoon or night.

Winds will be South-easterly in direction or Variable over the sea areas around the island. Wind speed will be 20-30 kmph.

The sea areas around the island will be slight.

Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.

ඊට අමතරව බදුල්ල, මහනුවර, කෑගල්ල, කුරුණෑගල, මාතර, රත්නපුර, හම්බන්තොට සහ මාතලේ දිස්ත්‍රික්කවල ප්‍රාදේශීය ලේකම් කොට්ඨාස රැසක් සඳහා අදියර එක සහ අදියර දෙක යටතේ නායයාම් අනතුරු ඇඟවීම් ක්‍රියාත්මකය.

Speaker issues special statement on outsiders attending parliamentary committee meetings

The Speaker of Parliament Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena informed the House in a special statement this morning (20) that no outsiders are allowed to enter the meeting rooms during the parliamentary select committee meetings.

Thus, Abeywardena pointed out that except for the members of the committees or other MPs who are not committee members but attend the meeting with proper approval of the committee’s chairman and the officials of external institutions summoned before the committees, if an outsider is to attend any Parliamentary Select Committee meeting prior written approval of the Speaker must be obtained.

The Speaker, who expressed that he has received information regarding various occasions of committee chairpersons going beyond their scope of work in the respective committee, emphasized that all committee chairpersons are bound by parliamentary standing orders to act in a manner that preserves the long-standing traditions of the Parliament.

Furthermore, he informed that it must be ensured that the press releases are issued include only the matters approved by the relevant committees, and in a manner that the government officials of various ministries, departments, and statutory or non-statutory bodies called before the committees, are not inconvenienced.

The Speaker of the House further affirmed that official letterheads should not be utilized for any personal or political errands under any circumstances.

The Speaker’s special statement comes in the aftermath over the controversy surrounding the participation of COPE chairman Prof. Ranjith Bandara’s son, Kanishka Bandara, during the recent Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) meeting held with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) officials.
