March Madness Community Tournament 2026

One of Liberia’s biggest sporting festivals is set to return as the 6th Annual March Madness Community Tournament kicks off on March 13, 2026.

The tournament will feature football (male and female) and kickball, with 16 male teams, 4female teams, and 8 kickball teams competing for mouth-watering cash prizes, giant trophies, medals, and individual awards including MVPs, Highest Scorers, and Best Goalkeepers.
All the action will take place at the Barnersville Estate Stadium from March 13 to March 22, 2026.

In the last edition, St. Paul Bridge Community lifted the male football title, New Georgia Community claimed the female crown, while Johnsonville Community emerged champions in kickball.

Stay tuned for what promises to be an exciting, colorful, and unforgettable sporting spectacle. 🏆⚽🥅

On November 21, 2010, U.S. Marine William “Kyle” Carpenter was deployed in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. While he and fellow Marine Nick Eufrazio were providing rooftop security during a Taliban attack, an enemy explosive device landed near their position. Carpenter moved toward the explosive device and absorbed most of the blast, an action that helped protect his fellow Marine.

The explosion caused catastrophic injuries. Carpenter suffered severe damage to his face and arm, lost his right eye, shattered his jaw, and lost many of his teeth. He was critically wounded but survived after extensive emergency treatment. Over the next several years, he went through dozens of surgeries and a long rehabilitation process to rebuild his body and regain basic functions.

Because of his extraordinary bravery and willingness to risk his life to save another Marine, Carpenter was awarded the Medal of Honor on June 19, 2014, by President Barack Obama. At the time, he became the youngest living Medal of Honor recipient.

His story is widely recognized as a powerful example of self-sacrifice, courage, and the strong bond between service members.
