The House of Representatives of the Republic of Liberia extends its full and unwavering support to the Government and People of Liberia in their noble quest to secure a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the 2026–2027 term.

This historic bid marks a significant moment in Liberia’s diplomatic journey and reflects the nation’s enduring commitment to global peace, security, multilateral cooperation, and democratic governance. Liberia, having made substantial contributions to peacekeeping, post-conflict recovery, and regional stability, is well-positioned to bring a unique voice and credible perspective to global peace and security discussions at the Security Council.

The House recognizes the pivotal role that the UNSC plays in maintaining international peace and security and believes that Liberia’s presence on the Council will amplify the voice of smaller nations, especially within the West African region and the global community.

As representatives of the Liberian people, we affirm our collective commitment and readiness to support the Executive in all necessary diplomatic, legislative, and logistical undertakings to ensure the success of this bid. The Legislature under the gavel of Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon stands in full solidarity with Liberia’s international partners, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and our diplomatic missions as they lead the campaign.

We thank other member States that have endorsed Liberia’s bid and encourage other member states of the United Nations to endorse Liberia’s candidacy, recognizing the country’s long-standing contributions to global peace and Security, reconciliation, and the respect for democratic values on the African continent and beyond.

The House of Representatives would like also commend H.E Sarah Beyslow Nyanti, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and our Ambassadors assigned in friendly countries, who have been instrumental in leading the campaign for this bid.

Again the Honorable House of Representatives remains very supportive in this venture as Liberia secure this seat.
I thank you!

Grand Kru County Strengthens TVET Programs for Youth Empowerment

By: Shedrick Tarwily

Grand Kru County Superintendent Antoinette Nimley has taken significant steps to revitalize Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Forpoh and Trehn Districts. On December 3, 2024, Superintendent Nimley facilitated a four-hour meeting with the Deputy Minister of TVET at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, alongside administrators from the Trembo and Forpoh Vocational Institutes.

The meeting aimed to address lingering issues between the Ministry and the two vocational institutions. It was deemed successful, with the Ministry assuring a strengthened working relationship with the institutes. The discussion also included a review of findings from the Ministry’s monitoring and evaluation team, which conducted an assessment in Grand Kru County in September 2024.

The establishment of these vocational institutes is expected to significantly enhance TVET education for the youth of Grand Kru County. Alongside the Grand Kru Technical College in Barclayville, these institutions will provide local students with access to technical and vocational training, reducing the need for them to relocate to the county capital.

The Forpoh and Trembo Vocational Training Institutes were established through legislation enacted by the 54th Legislature to offer basic technical and vocational education to the people of Grand Kru. Superintendent Nimley, prioritizing capacity building, has intensified efforts to ensure the full operationalization of these institutions. These initiatives aim to empower the next generation with skills critical for self-reliance and economic development.

In her remarks, Superintendent Nimley emphasized the importance of equipping the youth with practical skills to address unemployment and foster community development. "TVET education is a cornerstone for sustainable progress. By providing access to quality vocational training, we are empowering our young people to build better futures for themselves and their communities," she said.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports has pledged its continued support, focusing on improving infrastructure, resources, and faculty development for the institutes. As plans for full operations progress, residents of Forpoh and Trehn Districts anticipate the transformative impact these programs will have on their lives.

Sports Journalist Emmanuel G. Printers Slams Grand Kru Sports Committee for Inefficiency as the County Sits in a Hot Zone with Montserrado, Margibi, Grand Gedeh

December 3, 2024

Grand Kru sports journalist Emmanuel G. Printers has accused the leadership of the county’s Sports Steering Committee of inefficiency and neglect.
According to Printers, the committee’s leaders are failing to fulfill their duties, often making unsubstantiated claims about their activities while tangible results remain absent.

Printers criticized the committee for "bluffing and passing around," alleging that their actions are hindering the development of sports in the county.

He revealed factual reports indicating that the Grand Kru County base team is grappling with serious challenges, including inadequate transportation, insufficient food supplies, and even a lack of footballs at practice sessions.

He lamented that players often struggle to afford transportation to attend practice and secure basic needs, such as food, which hampers their performance and morale.
He further expressed his frustration over reports of officials mismanaging funds allocated for the players, a recurring issue that has left many disillusioned.

Adding to the urgency of the matter, Grand Kru has been placed in Group B for the upcoming national county sports meet alongside Montserrado, Margibi, and Grand Gedeh counties.
Printers emphasized that this grouping poses a significant challenge, describing it as a "dangerous zone" for the county.
He urged the leadership to prioritize the welfare of players and address these pressing issues promptly.
