This Friday marks United Nations Day, celebrating 80 years of global cooperation.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres called on people everywhere to unite in the spirit of the UN’s founding ideals — to build peace, fight poverty and hunger, defend human rights, and create a sustainable future.

“For 80 years, we have worked to forge peace, tackle poverty and hunger, advance human rights, and build a more sustainable world – together.”

Now, more than ever, the world must recommit to solving problems no nation can solve alone.”

He urged the world to recommit to solving challenges no nation can face alone.

LIBERIA ELECTRICITY CORPORATION BEGINS PROPERTY IDENTIFICATION IN GRAND BASSA

Buchanan - The Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) has announced plans to begin identifying and reclaiming government-related properties under its authority across Grand Bassa County.

Speaking during a meeting with County Superintendent Karyou Johnson and his deputies in Buchanan on Wednesday, the head of the LEC delegation, Counselor Mayalan Keita-Brown, explained that the exercise forms part of the ongoing Decentralization of Electricity Program.

She said the process requires the physical presence of LEC officials in the county for both administrative and technical supervision.

According to LEC, the initial phase will focus on properties located in the Moore Town Community and the office facility behind Bassa High School along Johnson Street in Buchanan.

Superintendent Karyou Johnson welcomed the move, describing it as a positive step toward improving service delivery and restoring citizens’ confidence in the sector.

He said, “We will approach this matter through community engagement to ensure the smooth retrieval of LEC facilities.”

The return of the Liberia Electricity Corporation to Grand Bassa is seen as part of the government’s broader effort to decentralize governance and promote development and job creation.

Earlier this year, LEC conducted recruitment interviews at the county administrative building to hire skilled Liberians as part of its expansion and employment drive.

I was born into a Christian family, and that’s where my spiritual journey began.

I started reading the Bible and asking questions, and went to the priest for answers. But he simply told me, “You just have to have faith.”

So, I moved on from Christianity, and began exploring Eastern religions and philosophies, particularly Buddhism.

I spent a long time meditating in Buddhist temples and speaking with Buddhist monks.

Meditation did give me a sense of peace and clarity. However, it didn’t answer my deeper questions about the nature of existence.

I found a lot of truth in these religions, but I could never accept any of them as the truth.

I felt confused, I fell to the floor and prayed, “Oh, please God, I am so confused, please guide me to the truth.”

This is when I discovered Islam.

The striking difference is that Islam makes a strict distinction between the Creator and the creation.

In Islam, we worship the Creator. Simple. However, in every other religion there is some form of worship involving creation.

Finally, everything I had learned and found to be true, fitted together like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle.

My journey had come to an end, and I chose Islam.

What about you? Have you started your journey?
