December 5, 2025

The Ministry of Public Works is gravely concerned about the wave of ongoing construction activities around the country by individual citizens, businesses and institutions without obtaining construction permits as mandated by the Zoning Law of the Republic of Liberia.

These construction activities are often carried out without the required technical supervision from the Ministry to enhance structural integrity, which undermines its efforts toward public safety.

The Ministry encourages the general public to avoid any future eventuality and take advantage of its seamless process by lawfully obtaining a Construction Permit from the Ministry of Public Works through its Division of Zoning & Land Use Planning prior to commencing any construction activity.

This reminder is part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to ensure orderly development, public safety, and adherence to national zoning and construction standards.

The Ministry therefore strongly cautions that failure to obtain a valid Construction Permit prior to the commencement of construction works, will leave the Ministry with no alternative but to DEMOLISH any structure erected in violation of this regulation.

Additionally, the public is advised that the Ministry will demolish all properties constructed in alleys, right-of-way, and other prohibited zones, as these areas are essential for public access, utilities, and future infrastructure development.

All concerned are urged to cooperate by visiting the Ministry of Public Works to obtain the appropriate permits before starting any construction.

Building the future begins with building rightly!
