PAVIFORT LIBERIA Begins Camp Site Clearing for Voinjama-Mendicorma Pavement Project

VOINJAMA, LOFA COUNTY — Construction firm PAVIFORT LIBERIA has started site clearing works on the Voinjama to Mendicorma Road project, with operations commencing on May 15, 2026.

The initial phase of clearing began between Sovasu and Balahun, specifically in Kambolahu Town along the Kolahun Road corridor. Crews were deployed to remove vegetation and prepare the right-of-way ahead of grading and pavement works.

Local residents in Kambolahu Town observed the equipment and labor teams mobilizing early Thursday morning, marking the first visible activity on the road upgrade since the contract was awarded.

The Voinjama-Mendicorma route is a key link for communities in Kolahun District, connecting agricultural areas to market centers in Voinjama. Once completed, the pavement is expected to reduce travel time and improve access to health, education, and trade services for residents along the corridor.

Officials from PAVIFORT LIBERIA have not released a full project timeline, but said the current site clearing will continue along the designated section in the coming weeks. The company urged motorists and pedestrians to exercise caution in the work zone as earthmoving equipment operates.

Community leaders in Kambolahu Town welcomed the start of work, noting that improved road conditions have been a long-standing request for the area.

The project forms part of ongoing government efforts to upgrade rural road networks in Lofa County to support economic activity and mobility.

LDEA Nabs Suspected Trafficker in Sinoe, Seizes 15kg of Ma*****na

Sinoe County – The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has intensified its nationwide anti-drug campaign with the arrest of a suspected trafficker in Sinoe County.

Officers from the agency’s Sinoe County Detachment intercepted a large quantity of ma*****na in Juazon Town on May 12, 2026. Authorities hailed the operation as another major breakthrough in the ongoing fight against the trafficking and distribution of illegal substances across Liberia.

The suspect, identified as 52-year-old Samuel Karzon, a resident of Disco Hill Community in Grand Gedeh County, was apprehended around 9:00 a.m. during a targeted intelligence-led operation.

According to the LDEA, a search of the suspect uncovered 15 plates of ma*****na, weighing approximately 15 kilograms, with an estimated street value of US$2,236.84 (over LD$425,000).

Investigators revealed that the narcotics were allegedly concealed inside two blue containers, hidden in a bag tied to a blue-and-white TVS Star motorbike—a method believed to be designed to evade detection while transporting drugs between counties. The seizure is part of a broader LDEA crackdown aimed at dismantling drug trafficking networks operating within Liberia.

The LDEA confirmed that the suspect remains in custody pending investigation and will be charged in court according to Liberia’s drug enforcement laws. Reaffirming its zero-tolerance stance on drug-related crimes, the agency vowed to sustain operations against individuals and criminal networks involved in the illicit drug trade.

The LDEA also called on the public to support the fight against narcotics by reporting suspicious activities through its official hotlines.

Judiciary Denounces False Claim of Chief Justice Ordering Probe in Jury Tampering Case

MONROVIA – The Judiciary of the Republic of Liberia has strongly refuted a false news publication alleging that Chief Justice Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay ordered an investigation into alleged jury tampering in a US$6.2 million corruption case.

The Judiciary described the report, which has circulated under the headline “CJ Gbeisay Orders Probe Into Alleged Jury Tampering in US$6.2M Corruption Case,” as categorically false, misleading, and reckless.

“At no time did the Chief Justice issue any mandate, order, directive, or instruction authorizing an investigation into alleged jury tampering in connection with the matter referenced in the publication,” the Judiciary said in a statement signed by Communications Director Caesar Slapeh. “The story is entirely fabricated and bears absolutely no resemblance to any official action or position of the Judiciary.”

Under Liberia’s laws and constitutional framework, the Chief Justice does not arbitrarily intervene in criminal proceedings or unilaterally investigate jury deliberations in pending matters, the statement noted. The judicial system is governed by established legal procedures, due process guarantees, and institutional safeguards that prohibit such improper interference.

The Judiciary charged that attributing such conduct to the Chief Justice is “legally absurd” and part of “a deliberate smear campaign calculated to undermine public confidence in the independence, neutrality, and integrity of the Judiciary.”

The statement expressed regret that certain actors continue to use misinformation and speculative reporting to inflame public sentiment around high-profile cases, warning that such conduct harms the administration of justice and threatens Liberia’s democratic institutions.
