Ministry of Youth and Sports Suspends Two Youth Coordinators for One Month Over Alleged Dishonesty

MONROVIA, LIBERIA - The Ministry of Youth and Sports has suspended two Youth Coordinators assigned to the Ganta and Tubmanburg Youth Centers for one month without pay, following an investigative review.

The affected officers are Mr. Jerry R. Quoi of the Ganta Youth Center and Mr. Musa B. Dukuly of the Tubmanburg Youth Center.

The suspension takes immediate effect. According to disciplinary notices issued by the Ministry, the conduct of the two officers violated their Terms of Reference and was found inconsistent with Chapter 4.2.2(h) of the Civil Service Agency Standing Orders of 2012, which addresses “Dishonesty in the conduct of Government business.”

As part of the measures, both officers have been directed to turn over all official documents and government property to the designated Center Manager. They have also been instructed not to enter Ministry premises or engage in any official duties during the suspension period.

The Ministry cautioned that any future infraction could result in more severe disciplinary action, up to and including termination.

Ministry Reaffirms Commitment to Accountability
The Ministry of Youth and Sports reiterated its commitment to professionalism, accountability, discipline, integrity, and transparency in public service.

It also reminded the public that all government-supported youth programs are funded by the Government of Liberia and its development partners. Participation in these programs should be free for eligible young people, unless an official program requirement states otherwise.

The Ministry warned that no individual is authorized to solicit or collect money from young people for access, selection, placement, or participation in any Ministry program.

Young people are urged not to pay anyone demanding money in connection with Ministry activities. Any such request should be reported through the Ministry’s official communication channels.

The Ministry assured the public that administrative measures will continue to be taken whenever violations of rules or standards of conduct are identified.

First 20 Migrants Deported From U.S. Arrive in Liberia Under Controversial Third-Country Deal

MONROVIA, LIBERIA, August 21,2026.
The first group of 20 migrants deported from the United States arrived in Liberia on Thursday, marking the start of a controversial agreement that could see up to 1,200 people transferred to the West African nation.

The migrants landed at Roberts International Airport near Monrovia. Liberian authorities say those transferred could include nationals from Africa, the Americas, and the Caribbean — meaning some may have no previous connection to Liberia.

The arrangement is part of the Trump administration’s wider policy of deporting migrants to third countries rather than returning them directly to their countries of origin.

Liberian authorities say the migrants will have the opportunity to seek asylum and that the program will receive support from the United States.

The deal has raised concerns among immigration lawyers and rights groups, particularly over whether deportees will have adequate protection if Liberia is not their home country.

The arrival makes Liberia one of the latest African countries to become part of America’s increasingly controversial third-country deportation strategy.

‎Liberian Students Shine in Math and Technical Skills as WAEC Releases 2026 Examination Results.

‎MONROVIA, LIBERIA — High school students across Liberia have recorded strong performances in core academic subjects alongside an exceptional 100% pass rate in technical and vocational fields, according to official statistics released by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Liberia Office.

‎Speaking at a press briefing at the Ministry of Information, WAEC Liberia Head Mr. Dale Gbotoe presented the performance metrics for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). Mathematics registered an impressive 82.52% pass rate, with 44,671 out of 54,135 candidates passing the subject.

‎Most notably, every candidate who sat for technical and vocational disciplines successfully passed, achieving an unprecedented 100% pass rate. In light of these results, WAEC is urging secondary schools nationwide to expand vocational training programs to further foster technical skills development among young Liberians.

‎According to Mr. Gbotoe, the technical and vocational category encompasses Auto Mechanics, Blocklaying and Concrete Works, Plumbing and Pipefitting, Technical Drawing, and Welding and Fabrication Engineering Craft Practice.

Nimba Daughter Grace Moore Condemns Sexual Exploitation in Entertainment Sector, Calls for Action to Protect Single Mothers.

Prominent daughter of Nimba County, Grace Moore, has condemned public entertainment owners for what she described as men taking advantage of women under the guise of job opportunities.

Speaking to One Liberia Online TV reporter, Moore, a single mother and high school graduate, alleged that some men in management positions at entertainment centers announce vacancies for females, only to use the application process as a means of exploitation before offering jobs.
She said she has personally experienced the situation four times.

Moore named positions such as waitress and housekeeping as the roles commonly used to lure women with the intent of socialization rather than employment.

Moore called on Nimba County lawmakers to intervene and support single mothers who face serious economic constraints. She also urged entertainment managers and CEOs across the county to swiftly act to eliminate what she described as discrimination and deception.

She further appealed to the Mayor of Ganta City to come to the aid of single mothers and jobless young women.

Moore expressed dissatisfaction over the plight of young girls on the streets, saying their situation is driven by conditions, not career choice.

“As a high school graduate, sitting doing nothing for two years is burdensome,” she said, adding that it is disappointing when men born by women later fail to support them.

Moore described the exploitation as a growing problem affecting vulnerable women seeking work in the entertainment industry.

She emphasized that the abuse of job recruitment is forcing some young girls into street life due to lack of opportunities.

She is calling for stronger oversight and protection for women applying for jobs in private businesses.

Lisa Promise Koung, daughter of Vice President Jeremiah Koung, has donated 140 bags of rice to two humanitarian institutions in Ganta to support vulnerable populations.

The donation included 40 bags of rice to the House of Orphanage and 100 bags to the Ganta Rehab Center.

Administrators of both facilities said the intervention comes at a critical time. The centers rely heavily on community support and public donations to feed residents, including orphans, recovering patients, and individuals undergoing care.

Representatives from the House of Orphanage and the Ganta Rehab Center expressed gratitude for the timely assistance, noting that the donation will significantly ease their daily feeding and operational challenges.
