A one-year-and-three-month-old child has gone missing in Careysburg, raising significant concern in the community. The incident occurred in Fahn Taylor’s Town on Sunday between 10:00 and 11:00 AM.
The child, identified as Bardee Kerkulah, disappeared while his mother, Princess Nehmeni, went to collect wood from a nearby farm. Prior to leaving, an argument between her and her sister-in-law over a washboard led to an unplanned departure, leaving Bardee without proper care. Upon returning, Princess discovered only Bardee's slippers, and he was nowhere to be found.
James Dekulah has publicly accused three individuals—Bono Swary, Edmond Uray (believed to be the child's grandfather), and Peter Johnson—of being involved in the child's disappearance.
Dekulah expressed concern over potential ritualistic motives, stating that "there are big hands behind the missing child that can easily manipulate the issue." Reports indicate that ritualistic killings have occurred in Careysburg before, and some of the accused have been implicated in similar acts previously.
The scene of the incident attracted numerous stakeholders, including the Critical Intelligence Department (CID) from Bentol City, the Liberia National Police, the Traditional Council of Montserrado County, and Mr. John Y. Minor, the appointed City Mayor of Bentol City. Dekulah and the three suspects were taken to the Careysburg police station for further questioning as local residents and state investigators continue the search for Bardee.
Tensions have escalated in the area, resulting in angry crowds setting fire to houses believed to belong to the suspects. Many residents from surrounding villages have fled their homes in fear. The crowds have also erected roadblocks at key entry points to the village, demanding immediate action from the National Government.
In response to the situation, Hon. Rugie Yatu Barry, the district representative, dispatched her chief of staff to gather information and support the affected community.
As the search for Bardee continues, the community remains on high alert and calls for swift government intervention to grow louder.
