PRESS STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Menina Resort CEO William F. Kotee Extends Condolences, Calls for Thorough Investigation into St. John River Canoe Incident

Gbarnga, B**g County August 29, 2026:

I, William F. Kotee, Chief Executive Officer of Menina Resort, extend my deepest condolences and sympathy to the Nyah family of Duah Town, Senwein Clan, Boinsen Administrative District, following the tragic disappearance of Mr. Kennedy Nyah and his wife, Mrs. Ruth Nyah, who went missing after a canoe capsized on the St. John River.

According to information gathered from the Liberia National Police and reports from the media, a canoe traveling on the St. John River in District One, B**g County, capsized, resulting in Mr. and Mrs. Nyah being thrown into the river. Their whereabouts remain unknown, as search efforts continue to locate and recover them.

The incident has also reportedly resulted in tensions between family members of the missing couple and residents of the town as several houses were allegedly damaged during the ensuing disturbances.

While the police have launched search and investigative efforts, I call for a timely, impartial, and thorough preliminary investigation into the circumstances surrounding the canoe accident. It is important that the public be provided with accurate information regarding what led to the capsizing of the canoe and the events that followed.

According to the B**g County Police Operations Commander, OPS Chris N. Gono, six individuals have been arrested in connection with the disturbances that followed the incident. While I commend the police for taking steps to restore calm and maintain public order, I also urge the authorities to conduct a comprehensive investigation into both the canoe incident and the subsequent acts of violence and property damage.

I further call on the people of Boinsen Administrative District, the Nyah family, and all affected communities to remain calm and allow the Liberia National Police to carry out its investigation without interference.

At this difficult moment, my thoughts and prayers remain with the Nyah family and all those affected by this tragic incident. I encourage everyone to exercise restraint and allow the law to take its course.

‎The administration and residents of Zowienta have expressed gratitude to Mr. William F. Kotee Jr. for his timely intervention at the Zowienta Clinic. Mr. Kotee on Saturday donated 15 gallons of fuel to power the clinic’s ambulance and ensure emergency services remain operational for the community.

A long-standing challenge at Tassah Public School came to an end on Friday, July 3, 2026, as the school received its first set of graduation gowns through a donation from Honorable William F. Kotee Jr.

‎ Since the establishment of Tassah Public School, graduating pupils have depended on rented gowns every year for their graduation ceremonies. For many parents, the annual rental fees added an extra financial burden during an already costly time.
‎
‎ That story changed today during a special presentation held on the school campus in Tassah. The atmosphere was filled with excitement as students, teachers, and community members gathered to witness the historic donation.

‎ Honorable William F. Kotee Jr. donated 40 pieces of graduation gowns to the school. The donation is intended to serve current and future graduating classes, meaning pupils will no longer have to rent gowns for their ceremony.
