Senator Moye Donates Fuel and Cash to Support Phebe Hospital’s Surgical Outreach
By Matalay S. Kollie
B**g County, Liberia — The administration of Phebe Hospital in Suakoko, B**g County, has received a donation of two drums of fuel, approximately 150 gallons and US$500 from B**g County Senator Prince Kermue Moye, Sr., in support of the hospital’s upcoming surgical outreach program.
Presenting the items on behalf of Senator Moye, his Chief of Office Staff, Nuwoe Kellen, said the donation was intended to help ease logistical constraints as the hospital prepares for a major medical and surgical campaign involving both local and international doctors.
“The Senator has asked us to make a small donation of two drums of fuel and five hundred U.S. dollars to aid the logistical constraints for the upcoming surgery,” Kellen said. “Health care for our people is non-negotiable, and Senator Moye remains committed to supporting those who continue to make sacrifices to ensure the provision of quality services at Phebe Hospital.”
Kellen noted that Senator Moye has been working closely with Liberian doctors under the banner Doctors Without Borders Liberia—many of whom hail from B**g County—to extend life-saving medical and surgical services to vulnerable populations across the country. He highlighted previous medical outreach efforts in Gbarnga, Palala, Sannoyeah, and other parts of Liberia, emphasizing that such initiatives are part of a long-term plan to expand access to essential healthcare services.
Kellen also conveyed the Senator’s appreciation to Dr. Ayun K. Cassell, President of the Liberia Medical and Dental Council (LMDC), and assured his office of the Senator’s continued collaboration. “He will continue to mobilize resources for the work you do and for the upcoming campaign. You can rest assured that our team will be on the ground, supporting us in whatever way possible,” he said.
In response, Dr. Ayun Cassell expressed gratitude to Senator Moye for his consistent support for health initiatives in B**g County, describing the donation as “a kind, humanitarian gesture that reflects genuine care for his people.”
He also acknowledged the collaboration between the LMDC, and Kappa Care— organization, and a team of international medical professors under the Dutch Surgical Society, who have joined efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery and capacity-building in Liberia.
“These are professors who have more than 50 articles to their names and are highly respected in their fields,” Dr. Cassell said. “They have come to train and work with our local doctors so that, in the long run, we can sustain these services on our own. This initiative will go beyond this moment.”
Receiving the donation, Dr. Minnie Ricks, Medical Director of Phebe Hospital, extended heartfelt thanks to Senator Moye on behalf of the hospital’s board, staff, and the people of B**g County.
“It’s always good to give back where you come from,” Dr. Riggs remarked. “What the Senator has done is commendable. We also want to thank Dr. Cassell, Kappa Kier, and the entire team of doctors who have come from afar to help our people. Only God can repay you for your service.”
The donation comes ahead of a large-scale surgical and medical outreach planned at Phebe Hospital, to be conducted by Liberian and international medical teams. The initiative will focus on providing life-saving surgeries and health services to underprivileged citizens in B**g and surrounding counties.
Senator Moye, who has previously supported healthcare and education programs in the county, has reiterated his commitment to improving public health infrastructure and ensuring that quality medical services are accessible to all Liberians, especially those in rural communities.
