Peace in Action: U.S., AFL, and Partners Remove 75 Unexploded Bombs

On July 23, the Government of the United States and the Government of Liberia conducted a joint operation to dispose of more than 75 unexploded ordnances (UXO) left over from Liberiaโ€™s civil war period.

The successful operation on Edward Binyah Kesselly Barracks was jointly coordinated by the U.S. Embassy, Monrovia, the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL), Golden West Humanitarian Foundation, and Bea Mountain Mining Company with funding provided by the U.S. Department of Stateโ€™s Bureau of Political-Military Affairs.

Through this joint effort, Liberia has safely eliminated a long-standing public safety hazard and demonstrated its continued commitment to peace and security.

NEWLY FORMED GLOBAL METHODIST CHURCH TO BUILD 241 NEW CHURCHES BARELY 5 MONTHS AFTER BREAKAWAY

The newly formed Global Methodist Church in Liberia (GMC) has announced plans to build two hundred forty-one new churches nationwide over the next three years.

The decision was reached following its recently held convening conference in Ganta, Nimba County, and was later announced at a major press conference in Monrovia on Wednesday.

The proposed churches will span across the country, aiming to ensure members realize their dream of starting a life-giving church and spreading the gospel.

Rev. Dr. Jerry P. Kulah is the conference superintendent of the Global Methodist Church. He told the press conference that the move is part of strategies to build, support, and provide underserved regions with the necessary tools to launch new churches and thrive with the gospel.

Dr. Kulah added that the GMC involves more than just starting a new service, but creating a sustainable and independent church with its own leadership, community, and worship space.

He added that the goal is to extend the reach of the Christian faith by forming new communities of believers with a significant expansion of its nationwide network of church plants.

Launched in February 2025, after a breakaway from the United Methodist Church, the GMC has announced a total of 155 churches with over 26,000 congregational members under its watch.

Authorities vowed to establish the 241 congregations across unreached communities, aiming to serve as beacons of faith for thousands of individuals seeking spiritual growth and connection.

Police sources in Grand Gedeh County have reported a shocking shooting incident that resulted in the death of two men from the Liberian side of the border with Ivory Coast.

The incident took place on July 11, 2025 in Electoral District #3, Cavalla Administrative District.

Report from the Crime Services Department of the Grand Gedeh Police Detachment said the shooting was allegedly carried out by security forces believed to be Ivorians.

The report described the two victims as a 22-year-old man, identified as Mohammed Kamara, and a 45-year-old Burkinabe national identified as Abdullahi Zougranda.

The report unveiled that Abdullahi Zougranda was on a fishing expedition on an Island in the Cavalla River when he was shot several times with bullets penetrating his mouth and cutting his index finger.

As for Mohammed Kamara, the report indicated that he was mining on the Cavalla River with a dredge, along with two others, when he was shot on sight and subsequently tried swimming to the Liberian side but later got drowned after being subdued by the wounds.

The LNP, upon receiving complaints from a community member, swiftly reported to the scene, set up a 15 men coroner jury who established that the victims died due to the shooting incident.

Meanwhile, family members of the deceased requested for the remains of their family members, which were turned over for burial.
