Labour Minister Mandates Two Industrial Groups To Transition Over Eighty Contractors To Permanent Employees: As part of efforts to provide employment for Liberians, Labour Minister Hon. Cllr. Cooper W. Kruah, Sr. has mandated two major investment conglomerates to transition their contractors to be permanent employment status. The two companies are the Liberia Paper Product and Cartoon Factory and the Silver Automobiles Company, Ltd; all based around the Free zone Industrial park on the Bushrod Island. A Labour Ministry press release issued in Monrovia today February 12, 2025 quotes the Minister as giving the directive to the General Managers of both companies, Hussein Atwi and Abhai Srivastava during an inspection tour. The release disclosed that the Labour Minister expressed dissatisfaction over the way and manner in which Liberian workers at the companies are being treated on a perpetually renewal contractual basis, thus denying them full benefits associated with work, In violation of The Decent Work Act of Liberia. The release further quotes the Labour Minister as calling on the companies to provide safety gadgets, including protective gloves and nose masks, among others, to their workers. The release added that Minister Kruah further called on the two industrial conglomerates to provide lunch and overtime benefits to the workers, including retroactive holidays. Minister Kruah, however, lauded the two leading companies for their investment initiatives and disclosed that Government looks up to their continuous support in providing part time vacation jobs under the Ministry's 'Annual Vacation Job Program' which was officially launched last year. The release added that in a separate response, Messrs Srivastava and Atwi commended Minister Kruah for the tour and committed to fully implementing the mandate, acknowledging strides being made by 'Rescue Mission Government' of President Joseph Nyumah Boakai and Vice Presiden
