Chief Justice of Liberia Visits the 5th Judicial Circuit Court in Grand Cape Mount County

The 5th Judicial Circuit Court of Grand Cape Mount County recently hosted a successful acquaintance visitation from the Chief Justice of the Republic of Liberia, marking a significant moment in the ongoing effort to strengthen the relationship between the judiciary and local judicial authorities.

Mr. Momodu Massaquoi, along with court officials and community representatives, warmly welcomed the Chief Justice to the county. The visit served as an opportunity to assess the state of judicial operations, engage with local court staff, and discuss ongoing challenges faced by the justice system in the region.

During the visit, the Chief Justice expressed gratitude for the dedicated service of judicial personnel in Grand Cape Mount County and reaffirmed the Supreme Court’s commitment to ensuring equitable access to justice across Liberia.

In turn, Mr. Massaquoi extended appreciation to the Chief Justice for taking the time to visit the circuit, describing the occasion as “an inspiring moment that reinforces our collective dedication to upholding justice, integrity, and the rule of law.”

The visit concluded with a renewed call for collaboration among all stakeholders in the judiciary to improve service delivery and public confidence in the Liberian justice system.

Update:

The General Auditing Commission has confirmed that it has issued an Audit Certificate to the Ministry of State for Presidential Affairs, following some compliance measures to rectify key issues raised in the audit on the entity.

Following a post announcing receipt of the certificate by Deputy Minister of State Cornelia Wonkerleh Kruah, I contacted the GAC for confirmation.

This is the response from the audit house:

"Yes. It's from the GAC. This came about after the 2024 Compliance audit of the Ministry of State. During that audit ,it was discovered that the 74 persons on the supplementary payroll couldn't be accounted for or seen. Secondly, the lack of payments to those 74 auditors couldn't be traced during the audit.

"In a follow-up audit, the Management of MOS was able to subsequently make available for verification purposes, the newly hired 74 supplementary personnel of 2024 who weren't previously made available during the audit in December 2024.

"Management also later provided that the unpaid cheques of US76,440 belonging to the 74 staff members who weren't paid during the close out audit due to the lack of evidence to authenticate the legitimacy of their employment were voided and the amount retained in the appropriate account as required.

"It is from this background that the certificate was issued. It is a professional norm that you issue a certificate."
