Residents Block Road Over Poor Condition, Demand Action from GLM

By: D. Cyrus Fanciah

River Cess County __Residents of Solo and Gbargbo villages in River Cess County have set up roadblocks, preventing the movement of vehicles โ€” particularly those belonging to GLM (Bea Mountain) โ€” over the companyโ€™s alleged failure to repair the road leading from its camp in ITI to exploration sites in the area.

According to reports, the protest began early Sunday, with residents using sticks and other objects to block the road, insisting that the deteriorating condition had made travel unsafe and nearly impassable.

Upon receiving information about the protest, the County Superintendent, Byron Zahnwea, accompanied by the County Administrative Officer, Dennis Seeboe, along with protocol and information officers, visited the scene to verify the situation and engage with the community.

The County Administration said it immediately contacted the management of GLM, urging the company to provide emergency intervention to make the road passable while awaiting major maintenance work in the dry season.

Credible sources within the company disclosed that several trucks have already been dispatched to the area to carry out temporary repairs, and they are expected to arrive shortly.

Local authorities have appealed to residents to remain calm and allow dialogue to resolve the issue peacefully.

Justice on the Line, River Cess County Fails to Act on Alleged R**e Case.

OLIVER GEEVON SMITH

Development Communication Networks (DCN) is sounding the alarm on a disturbing case of alleged r**e in River Cess County. Francis Geeplay, a Human Resources Officer at the River Cess County Health Team, has been accused of sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl two years ago.

Shockingly, despite the serious allegations, Geeplay remains free, sparking outrage and concerns about the county's justice system.
The case highlights a troubling trend in River Cess County, where innocent and poor individuals often languish behind bars for over two years without trial.

Meanwhile, those with influence and power seem to evade accountability. DCN is committed to shedding light on such injustices and advocating for the rights of vulnerable populations, particularly in cases like this where a young girl's justice hangs in the balance.

According to the 14th Judicial Circuit Court in River Cess County, presided over by Judge S. Geevon Smith, the court system is designed to handle criminal, civil, and probate matters. However, the alleged r**e case raises questions about the effectiveness of this system in delivering justice to all citizens, regardless of their socio-economic status.

DCN is calling for immediate action to investigate and prosecute Geeplay, ensuring that justice is served and the rights of the victim are protected ยน.

The people of River Cess County deserve a fair and just system that prioritizes the safety and dignity of all citizens, particularly vulnerable populations like women and children. DCN urges the authorities to take swift action in this case and address the systemic issues that allow such injustices to occur.

By working together, we can create a brighter future for River Cess County, where justice and accountability are not just ideals but realities for all.

Man Dies in Gold Mine Accident in Rivercess

By: Walloh Menyon

River Cess County ___Citizens of Little Liberia, Fen River District, Rivercess County, are mourning the tragic death of a man identified as Garnayee, who lost his life in a gold mining accident.

According to eyewitness Peter Yannion, the incident occurred on Friday afternoon, September 11, 2025, while they were digging in an old mining pit. During the process, a falling rock struck Garnayee in the stomach.

He was immediately rushed to Gbadiah Town and later transferred to Buchanan for medical attention. Unfortunately, doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival at the hospital.

The Domong gold mine, where the accident took place, is known for its rich mineral deposits discovered in 2012. The site has a history of fatal incidents, with similar accidents in the past claiming the lives of several citizens.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Fen River District, Hon. Robert Morris, has ordered all mining activities in the area to cease until proper safety procedures are established. He emphasized that his office is not aware of any authorized mining operations at the site, noting that unlicensed miners are operating illegally.

Commissioner Morris further warned that anyone caught engaging in unauthorized mining would face legal action. He added that miners had previously promised to consult his office but failed to do so, which he described as undermining the authority of the district.

Journalist Eric Opa Duoe writes

"APPRECIATION

My heart is filled with gratitude. These past days have been some of the hardest moments of my PROFESSIONAL LIFE, but I did not go through them alone. I want to sincerely thank the Press Union of Liberia (PUL), the Rural Reporters News Network, my River Cess Journalists Association, the Reporters Association of Liberia, and every single journalist who stood with me, spoke out, and prayed for me while we were behind bars.

To the President of the PUL, Mr. Julius Kanubah, I owe you a special thanks. You fought for me with everything you had, even though I was not among those who supported you during the disputed Union election. You never saw me as an opponentโ€”you saw me as a brother, a journalist, and someone who deserved justice. That touched me deeply and taught me the true meaning of leadership.

To my lawyer, Atty. Bruce Boweh, thank you for standing in that courtroom on my behalf. Your voice gave me strength at a time when I felt powerless.

And to my colleagues in the media familyโ€”you lifted me up when I was down. Every word of solidarity, every call, every public stand you took reminded me that this profession is bigger than any individual. We are stronger when we stand together.

This experience was painful, humiliating, and unfairโ€”but it also gave me hope. Hope in the courage of journalists, in the unity of our profession, and in the belief that truth will always outlive intimidation.

I leave this experience more determined than ever to continue the work of journalism with courage and fairness.

Thank you all.

From the bottom of my heartโ€”thank you.

Eric Opa Doue"
