Rep. Kolleh Promises International Opportunity for Speech Competition Winner

By:Emmett Yarsiah Jr.

B**g County Electoral District #2 Representative James M. Kolleh has pledged to support a young Liberian student with an opportunity to participate in an international expo in 2026.

The announcement was made during the Build Tomorrow’s Women Initiative High School Speech Competition, held at B**g County University in Gbarnga, B**g County.

Speaking at the event, Representative Kolleh disclosed that he plans to work with Cultural Ambassador Juli Endee to sponsor the winner of the speech competition to travel abroad.

According to him, the initiative will allow the student to gain international exposure and represent Liberia on a global platform.

“I will collaborate with Ambassador Juli Endee to ensure that the winner of this speech and public speaking tournament travels with her to either the 2026 Japan Expo or a European expo,” Kolleh said.

At the end of the competition, Yvonne T. L. Wilson, a student of Cuttington Campus School, emerged as the first-place winner. Her victory gives her the potential opportunity to represent Liberia at an international event.

If the plan materializes, the trip will expose the young student to global platforms that promote cultural exchange, trade, and innovation.

One of the events being considered is the Japan Food Export Fair, scheduled for June 24–26, 2026, at Tokyo Big Sight in Tokyo, Japan. The event brings together food and beverage producers and international buyers from different parts of the world.

Other possible events include FOODEX Japan, which takes place annually in March, as well as trade-related activities linked to the Decarbonization Expo.

The initiative highlights ongoing efforts by national leaders and cultural institutions to empower young women through education, leadership development, and public speaking opportunities while giving them exposure to international experiences.

"Message to the Nation

Delivered by

His Excellency Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr.
President of the Republic of Liberia
On the Situation Along the Liberia–Guinea Border

Executive Mansion, Monrovia, Liberia
Wednesday, March 18, 2026

My Fellow Liberians,
I address you today regarding the situation along our border with the Republic of Guinea. As President of the Republic and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of Liberia, it is my duty to keep the Liberian people informed and to assure you that the peace and security of our nation remain my top priorities.

In recent days, concerns have emerged as a result of developments along parts of our shared border in the Sorlumba area, Foyah District, Lofa County. These developments have understandably attracted not only the attention of our citizens living in our border communities, but have also been very sensitive to the opinion of the wider Liberian public. I want to assure the Liberian people that your government has been fully engaged and is responsibly managing the situation with calm and determination.

From the very outset, the Government of Liberia took immediate steps to de-escalate the situation by addressing it through peaceful and diplomatic means. We have engaged directly with the Government of Guinea through established diplomatic channels. In addition, we have worked closely with our sister Republic of Sierra Leone, within the framework of the Mano River Union, to ensure that dialogue and cooperation guide our actions.

Following these engagements, the leaders of Liberia, Guinea, and Sierra Leone have reaffirmed our collective commitment to peace and stability along our shared borders. Through this understanding, all parties have agreed to work toward restoring the status quo and ensuring that our border communities continue to live in peace and uphold mutual respect and trust.

I am encouraged that the Government of Guinea has issued instructions for its forces to return to their previous positions along the

Kpain Town, Nimba County – March 17, 2026 — The Management of the National Lottery Authority (NLA) has disclosed a deeply moving encounter with a 26-year-old woman living with multiple disabilities, Ms. Josephine Tokpa, during its humanitarian outreach to persons with disabilities in Kpain Town, Nimba County.

The outreach, which formed part of activities commemorating the birthday of the Vice President of the Republic of Liberia, Jeremiah Kpan Koung, saw the distribution of assorted food items including rice, cooking oil, and vita cubes to several vulnerable and disabled communities across the county.

During the exercise, Ms. Tokpa emotionally appealed to the NLA Management for urgent assistance in acquiring a wheelchair to improve her mobility and overall quality of life. According to her, her current condition has made movement extremely difficult, limiting her ability to engage in basic daily activities and community interactions.

During encounter, NLA's Director of Social Corporate Responsibility, Watson Yeanue described Ms. Tokpa’s situation as both heartbreaking and urgent, emphasizing the need for immediate intervention.

Yeanue reaffirmed the NLA’s commitment to supporting persons living with disabilities (PWDs) across Liberia, not only through periodic humanitarian gestures but also through sustainable empowerment initiatives.

The NLA Social Corporate Responsibility Director assured that the plight of Ms. Tokpa will receive swift attention, noting that the Authority will engage relevant partners and stakeholders to ensure she is provided with the needed wheelchair support in the shortest possible time.
