Liberia Media Center Hosts County Reform Editor Forum to Strengthen Forest Reporting
By: Elton Wroinbee Tiah
Grand Bassa October 4, 2024 — The Liberia Media Center (LMC) held a County Reform Editor Forum today as part of the Multi-stakeholders Forest Governance Project (MFGAP).
Supported by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), this initiative is designed to enhance the skills of Liberian media professionals in reporting on vital forest sector issues.
Running from July 2024 to March 2025, the current phase of MFGAP builds on earlier training efforts. In its first round in 2020, around 52 journalists took part in extensive workshops that focused on the Voluntary Partnership Agreement (VPA) and the legal frameworks governing forestry in Liberia. These sessions emphasized the importance of including the voices of marginalized groups as part of the Gender and Social Inclusion component.
To further support journalists, LMC and its partners have introduced a new series of regional training sessions in Investigative Reporting, aimed at journalists who have already completed the initial training. These workshops encourage participants to delve into essential investigative techniques and best practices, ensuring impartial storytelling in their reporting.
Historically, the project has promoted collaboration among media managers and editors through various forums. Previous meetings in Monrovia and other counties, such as Voinjama, Ganta, Zwedru, and Greenville, have focused on engaging editors as key gatekeepers in forest sector journalism.
These forums aim to establish a network of electronic editors committed to enhancing forest-related reporting and fostering editorial excellence.
The latest forum in Buchanan seeks to build on insights gained from past engagements, identifying effective newsroom innovations, trends, and best practices.
