Former Rep. Candidate Solomon Y.W. Watkins has lambasted Montserrado County Rep. Yekeh Kolubah... Says Rep. Yekeh Kolubah Has Failed the People.

Monrovia, February 24, 2025: Former candidate for the Montserrado District #:10 legislative seat (2023 Elections), Solomon Y.W. Watkins has termed as growing disappointment the performance of their current Representative, Yekeh Kolubah.

According to him, Rep. Kolunah's tenure has been marred by chaos, insults, and misplaced priorities, leaving District 10 without any tangible development to boast of.

"Since his re-election, Representative Kolubah has abandoned the district, choosing instead to engage in a relentless campaign of insults directed at President Joseph Boakai, his colleagues, and even members of the public. His obsession with political fights and desperate efforts to maintain his preferred Speaker in power have done absolutely nothing to improve the lives of our people. Instead of focusing on his core responsibilities of oversight, representation, and lawmaking, he has chosen the path of noise-making and personal attacks, further deepening the neglect of our district," the District 10 former Candidate lamented on Tuesday, February 24, 2025 while speaking to journalists in Monrovia.

He further pointed out that the entire of District 10 continues to suffer great development setback, noting that "We lack access to clean water, proper sanitation, healthcare services, youth empowerment programs, and meaningful development initiatives. Roads are deteriorating, and essential services remain inadequate. Vast majority of our growing population are slum dwellers and are living below the two dollars per day poverty threshold while there is an increasing level of disadvantage youths (‘Zogos’) and underprivileged population in Montesrrado County Electoral District # 10. The Representative, who should be at the forefront of advocating for these critical needs, has instead relocated out of the district and embarked on an unending spree of insults and controversy. This is not the leadership District 10 deserves. It is an outright failure and a disappointment to our people," Watkins who is the founder of a prodemocracy organization, the Watkins Initiative of Nations (WIN) intoned.

"The chicanery and desperation for re-election, marked by empty noise, must stop. District 10 deserves a leader who is accessible, accountable, and focused on development, not one who prioritizes political theatrics over progress.

"I urge Representative Kolubah to rethink his approach and start acting like a responsible lawmaker – to take change of the responsibilities of the people of District #:10 - and represent the district among his colleagues’ lawmakers. If he cannot realign his focus to serve the interests of the people, then he should step aside and allow real leadership to take charge," Former Candidate Watkins noted.

Walk by faith, not only by sight

Walking by faith, not only by sight is a saying use in religious cycle (2 Cor. 5:6-8), which I intend to shine light on considering today’s practical life scenarios, especially among young people.
To live in our today's world, one must have to fully understand and be ready to do as the principals of life requires. One principal of life is walking by faith, not only by sight.

Walking by faith, not only by sight would mean fixing our eyes on what is unseen: We fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
Let me clarify that my thoughts may not be of biblical values as to the physical nature of the issues at hand.
In this scenario, faith would mean setting a goal for life; while sight would mean seeing life from the way things may look and not know how to achieve it.
Many people feel as if they're adrift in this world. They work hard, but they don't seem to get anywhere worthwhile. It’s just like what the bible said about not everyone who may say lord, lord will be accepted in Heaven. For one to occupy heaven as promised, it would be based on personal goal set just as it is with living in the today’s world.
Everyone must be able to set a SMART goal to achieve a particular thing – be it positive or negative.
The SMART in SMART goals stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound. Defining these parameters as they pertain to your goal helps ensure that your objectives are attainable within a certain time frame.
You can’t be feeling adrift in this world. You now need to spent enough time thinking about what you want from life, and set for yourself formal or SMART goals. After all, would you like to set out on a major journey with no real idea of your destination? Probably not!

I've passed by to let you know that if you fail to set a personal goal, you will just be living and not achieving. Just as our quest to go to “Heaven” would require setting a goal, so it is with everyday life. Few questions will open your minds to goal setting. First, ask yourself several questions using the words: WHAT? WHY? WHEN? WHERE? and HOW?

Stop thinking that life is that simple. It’s not and wouldn’t be. You have to make up your bed in the way you will lay on it.

To give a broad, balanced coverage of some important areas in your life, try to set goals in some of the following categories (or in other categories of your own, where these are important to you):

Career – What level do you want to reach in your career, or what do you want to achieve?

Financial – How much do you want to earn, by what stage? How is this related to your career goals?

Education – Is there any knowledge you want to acquire in particular? What information and skills will you need to have in order to achieve other goals?

Family – Do you want to be a parent? If so, how are you going to be a good parent? How do you want to be seen by a partner or by members of your extended family?

If you need extra support in goal setting - be it personal, family, organizational / institutional goals, etc., kindly inbox me.

Watkins wins LPP’S Primary

Liberian Journalist turned politician, Solomon Watkins has secured the Liberian People’s Party’s representative seat for District #: 10 to politically battle incumbent Representative, Yekeh Kolubah.

Mr. Watkins emerged victorious to contest on the LPP’s ticket following a primary held on Tuesday, July 4, 2023 that brought together hundreds of supporters of the party.

The primary was conducted in compliance with the National Elections Commission rules and regulations.

Others who won unopposed on the LPP’s Ticket for Montserrado County were: Amara Fofona of District 12; Dr. Eric Gbarlen of District 4; Julius C. Clark of District 3; Alex S. Konah of District 5; Prince Kojo Davis of District 17, and Robert Teah of District 16.

As the face of the youthful population of Montserrado County Electoral District 10, Mr. Watkins, who won the LPP’s Primary unopposed, promised to defeat the incumbent representative with wide margin.

According to him, District 10 deserves a person with technical knowhow which he is to help the district and Liberia move forward in the areas of lawmaking, oversight and representation.

“It is time to make a radical change. We are part of this process because we are concern about our country’s growth and development which is not the case now. Currently, we have identified lot of lapses at both our district and national levels once it comes to governance and leadership, as well as ensuring that the right thing is being done at the right time for the people. For instance, our government used over 30 million United States Dollars in the last two years just to subside for rice importation in the country. Such money could have been used to invest in our soil but no one see this as a problem and is ready to help. It is no longer time to desire such change, rather to support us to help solve a problem of such nature,” Representative Aspirant Watkins noted.

LPP’s District #:10 representative aspirant is currently the Vision Bearer of the Watkins Initiative For Nations which is impacting the lives of thousands of Liberians residing in and out of District 10.

Watkins as a highly respected humanitarian, journalist now politician, with a background in human rights advocacy, who is campaigning on a platform of positive change, promising to prioritize the needs of the constituents and addressing key issues affecting the district’s development and growth.
Better education, healthcare, and infrastructure development are key while Mr. Watkins presented herself as a fresh face in politics, advocating for transparency, accountability, and inclusive representation as well as to restore the lost image of the district at the Liberian legislature when elected.
Earlier, LPP’s Montserrado County Chairman, George Tarr praised Aspirant Watkins for his outstanding developmental stance within District #10.

He noted that there were many personalities who are equally members of the LPP that expressed interest to have contested the primary but once they heard of the name Solomon Watkins, they disregarded their quest to have contested the primary.

Hon. Watkins won the seat on the LPP’s ticket unopposed because his colleagues viewed his presence like a motorbike meeting a truck in an accident, so they decided not to partake during the process which makes us feel that Hon. Watkins will win District #: 10 on LPP’s ticket.”

Office of Hon. Y. Solomon W. Watkins speaks to the press over national and district issues

Full text of press statement

Fellow Residents of Electoral District #: 10 and stakeholders
Fellow Citizens of Montserrado County
Citizens of our beloved Mama Liberia
Distinguish Ladies and Gentlemen of the Press

I bring you warmest greetings from the conscious minds of Watkins Political Movement of Montserrado County District #10, the only vibrant political movement within District #10 which is on records for proffering policy directions to re-shift our beloved District #:10 and Mama Liberia.

Our attention this time has been drown to what we believe to be a calculated attempt by the National Elections Commission (NEC) under the chairpersonship of Cllr. Davidetta Browne Lansanah to rob our district and citizens of their democratic rights to participate into the upcoming October 10, 2023 General and Presidential Elections.

Cllr. Davidetta Browne Lansanah and her team have cleverly placed on the NEC’s website without significant research and awareness, designated voter’s registration centers to Montserrado County Electoral District #:10 which do not exist. The NEC has also taken away from our district and placed under District #: 9, a major voter’s registration center without taking into consideration the consequences thereof.

Our research has established that there exist no school in district #:10 named and styled: Fullness of Life Apostolic School in Congo Town and Peace Island Community School on the CAC Road. Moreover, there exist no more, a Doelakeh Memorial School on the Peace Island. For your information, Peace Island or 540 Community has only a single school name after it; while due to the ongoing road project on the Peace Island, the Doelakeh school was greatly affected more than two years now, thereby rendering it none existence.
Another grave attempt is that NEC has attributed A.M. Fofana Islamic School to District #: 9 instead of District #: 10. A.M. Fofana School has been under District #:10 even up to the 2020 bye elections. The overnight changed would have been only possible if the NEC would have demarcated the district based on the recent census results which is consistent with Article 80 of the Constitution of the Republic of Liberia. However, at no point in time, we have heard the NEC announced demarcation of Districts based on available data from the census which we have joined others national stakeholders to uprightly reject since.

These issues were brought to the attention of NEC through a written communication from our movement but until date, we have received no response of redress to the matters at hand. We believe this is an attempt on our democracy and such has the inclination to raid citizens of their votes. The NEC must correct this without hesitation.

We see these attempts by the National Elections Commission to have not gathered sufficient information to inform the inclusion into its database the mentioned schools and the demarcation of District #:10 as an unforgivable error to democracy.

For us, the 2023 Legislative and Presidential Elections means a lot for the people of Montserrado County Electoral District #:10 and Liberia at large; as such, there is no room for cheating in favor of any one aspirant.

We can’t afford to maintain the current representative into power which would tend to send out a wrong message to Liberia and the world that District #:10 believes in bad governance and spoil system.
As you may know the district continues to suffer from bad leadership, misrepresentation, mockery and abandonment by the current lawmaker who believes to be a Lord and Gospel of his own.
The lawmaker has failed to organize even a town hall meeting to report to the district and people who elected him for the years in power. He continues to remain an agent of division and self-interest seeking.

Distinguish Ladies and Gentlemen of the Press, we wish to also condemn in the strongest the recent violence instigated on the main campus of the University of Liberia by a Barbarian lawmakers of electoral Districts 8 and 10, thereby leading to one person being injured claiming to be a student of the university and the damaged of a vehicle owned by the Liberian National Police (LNP).
We called on the dual to take full responsibility of the damages which took placed and they should be made to care for the wounded. We equally using this time to call on the student community of our beloved nation, especially those on the University of Liberia campus to remain students as they are known to be. You have to put your education above all else. Don’t be used by any political actor to self-destroy. Your quest should be your education primarily.

As we conclude this press conference, we like to also express our disappointment in the current group of national stakeholders desiring to contest during the upcoming National Elections.
We see no future in them because of their association and idealism.
If they told you they got future for the new generation ask them, why do they glorify and keep supporting people like Henry Costa and Yeakeh Kolubah? A Costa who is known to be a blackmailer and faker of things, doesn’t represent the new breed of leaders we’ve envisaged for Liberia. Likewise, a Kolubah who can’t provide leadership even in the office he’s occupying as lawmaker, least to speak of our district affairs. A man who has demonstrated high level of ineptitude of the office of representative for Montserrado County Electoral District #:10 and has refused to uphold the value systems of our District and country. We are talking about a man who is leading only himself and does not have genuine followers. A man who is very corrupt and has been accursed severally by his office staffers of continuous harassment and emotional abuses. (E.g. A unique story is in the public domain of Yeakeh being in the business of requesting over 50% of his staffer salaries and nearly all their benefits on a monthly basis) Such a human rights violator and greedy hunter is one being hailed by the current so-called opposition leaders.
Remember, you can’t be speaking of change that holds a dark future which depicts that you are sleeping in Delialah’s bed but expect to wake up in Abraham’s bosom.
Our country is currently doom because we have an unserious and disintegrated opposition with a hopeless ruling establishment.
Such a situation brings us to the question asked once, where are the fighting spirits of our forefathers?
Where are their dreams and aspirations for a better Liberia? For I know these questions are no longer on the minds of the once down throwing messes leaders who are today leaders and contesting to become leaders of the land. The likes of JNB, ABC and GMW are all just evil blanket politicians seeking self-interest and we must reject them all.

We need new faces of leaders in our political discourse and not the already failed politicians who are faking change instead of seeking sincere change that seeks to address the bread-and-butter issues of today.
A change that will ensure our health, education and agriculture sectors are viable and dependable to confront the present-day challenges and future ones. This is the leadership we seek.
On the other hand, we are even more disappointed in the current set of leaders of the ruling establishment. They are only concerned about their party, themselves - building mansions and depleting the country resources - and not interested in Liberians.
They continue to ignore the current economic realities of Liberia. Prices of food, goods and services are skyrocketing while nobody cares. No inspection of food consumables on and/or coming in our country nowadays. You have people positioned into highly place decision making but are unqualify for the job yet you have not the political will to remove them in the best interest of the state. This makes me wondering if the President of our country is running the state or the state is running him? We are disappointed Mr. President. We are disappointed that deaths caused by the system weaknesses have increased significantly. Our people are getting sick and dying of diseases due to contaminated food sold on the Liberian market. The health care system is operating itself on decimal support from the government. Everything not working right. This is evil and it needs to stop. Even the private sector is not surviving anymore. Is this the hope for change you once preached?
It's regrettable to have you speak of what you can’t do. You have many failed promises. So, it’s time to leave. Go and rest.
We can’t continue to support such group of people into power. We must act by changing the leadership with new ones but not with evil blanket politicians.

Thanks!
