District 17 Sports Steering Committee Appoints Coach Kaetu Smith as Technical Director Ahead of 2025 LFA Montserrado County District League

The Executive Committee of the District 17 Sports Steering Committee is pleased to officially announce the appointment of Coach Kaetu Smith as Technical Director of the District 17 Football Team for the upcoming 2025 LFA Montserrado County District League.
This appointment marks a strategic and forward-thinking move to lay a strong technical foundation for the team’s preparation and performance in the most prestigious Inter-District Football Competition in Montserrado.
Coach Kaetu Smith is one of Liberia’s most accomplished and respected football minds, renowned for his technical expertise, tactical discipline, and commitment to grassroots development. His decorated coaching résumé includes:
• Former Head Coach of the Liberia National Team (Lone Star) – Appointed in 2012.
• Former Head Coach of Liberia’s U-20 National Team, where he played a pivotal role in shaping emerging national talent.
• International Coaching Experience in the United States, specializing in youth football development, player intelligence, and modern training methods.
• CAF and FIFA Certified, with extensive participation in technical workshops and elite coaching programs.
• A Mentor to numerous rising Liberian coaches and a key contributor to local football education and tactical evolution.
• Former Bea Mountain Head Coach.
• Global Pharma Head Coach.
Coach Kaetu is highly regarded for his calm leadership, deep football intellect, and his ability to build organized, competitive squads from the grassroots level.
Coach Smith assumes the role of the Technical Director (Architect) behind District 17’s footballing operations. Even before the appointment of the coaching staff, his mandate is to establish a high-performance culture, technical structure, and unified identity for the team.
Some of his Key Responsibilities Include:
1. Technical Oversight and Vision Setting:
• Define the tactical philosophy and playing style of the District 17 team.
• Establish training models, performance benchmarks, and player development pathways.
2. Pre-Coaching Appointment Guidance
• Assist in drafting the Terms of Reference (ToR) and selection criteria for coaches.
• Participate in vetting and recommending coaching candidates based on merit, system fit, and developmental outlook.
3. Scouting & Talent Identification
• Develop and implement a standardized Player scouting framework.
• Organize initial Player assessments and talent trials across the district.
4. Capacity Building & Mentorship
• Provide guidance and technical mentorship to incoming coaches and support staff.
• Facilitate tactical workshops and Player clinics to raise competitive standards.
5. Liaison & Compliance Oversight
• Act as a Technical Liaison between the District Team and the LFA/Montserrado Sub-Association.
• Ensure adherence to tournament regulations and technical compliance.
The appointment of a Technical Director prior to coaching staff is a deliberate step to:
