President Boakai Orders Transfer of Driver’s License and Vehicle Registration Functions to LTMI Effective March 1, 2026 , Leaving Transport Ministry with Inspection Only..

The Government of Liberia has announced a major administrative transition affecting the operations of the Ministry of Transport, following a directive from President Joseph Boakai.

According to a directive signed by Samuel A. Stevquoah, Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, all functions of the Ministry of Transport relating to the issuance of driver’s licenses and vehicle registration will be transferred to the Liberia Traffic Management Incorporated (LTMI), effective March 1, 2026.

The government stated that, with the exception of the Inspectorate Division, all operations within the Ministry of Transport connected to driver’s licensing and vehicle registration will be closed and severed as of March 1, 2026. This move paves the way for LTMI to assume full and unfettered responsibility for the issuance of driver’s licenses, vehicle registration, and other related services as enshrined in the Concession Agreement.

The directive, signed by Minister Stevquoah, takes immediate effect beginning March 1, 2026.

The decision comes as authorities await the deliberations of the Inter-Ministerial Concessions Committee (IMCC), alongside ongoing good-faith negotiations aimed at reaching mutual agreement on outstanding issues.

Government officials emphasized that the transition is intended to ensure continuity of services while investigations and consultations are concluded.

Breaking News: Liberia Joins UN Security Council with Historic Presenceā€

At the United Nations headquarters, five newly elected countries—Bahrain, Colombia, DR Congo, Latvia, and Liberia—gather for the ceremonial raising of their flags as they join the UN Security Council for 2026–2027.

Among them, Liberia’s moment stands out. A young Liberian diplomat carries the Lone Star flag with pride, symbolizing the nation’s resilience and rise to global leadership. As the flag is raised, the crowd senses the significance: Liberia is stepping onto the world stage not as a recovering nation, but as a confident contributor to international peace and security.

When the ceremony ends, all five flags wave together, but Liberia’s shines with a special brightness—marking a new chapter for the country and signaling that the world is watching its ascent.

CBL Sets Fees for Mobile Money Transfers between Lonestar cell MTN and Orange Money… …

The Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) has announced a new fee structure for mobile money transfers between Lonestar cell MTN and Orange Money under the Inclusive Instant Payments System (IIPS), also known as Pay Na-Na, which takes effect on January 5, 2026.

The fees apply to person-to-person (P2P) transfers between Lonestar Cell MTN Mobile Money and Orange Money Liberia. The system was officially launched on December 16, 2025, in Monrovia.

Under the approved structure:
Transfers ranging from US$1 to US$2,000 will attract a fee of not more than 1 percent of the transaction amount.

Transfers above US$2,000 will be charged a flat fee of not more than US$25, or the Liberian dollar equivalent.

According to the CBL, the new charges are designed to promote affordable, transparent, and interoperable digital payments, while supporting financial inclusion across Liberia. The platform will also operate 24 hours a day.

The Central Bank says it will closely monitor the implementation of the fees to ensure consumer protection, compliance by service providers, and the smooth growth of Liberia’s digital payment system.

In President Boakai’s New Year message he called on Opposition leaders to work toward lowering the temperature…

ā€œAs I have consistently done, I call on political leaders across all parties to work toward lowering the temperature of our national discourse. Disagreement must never descend into hatred. Opposition must never become obstruction to the national good or a desire for harm to befall our country. When it does, no one is spared. Leadership, whether in government or outside of it, carries great responsibility, and we pledge to uphold that responsibility.ā€
