----- Press Union Of Liberia Holds Re-run after November 2022 Controversial Elections----
Monrovia – The Press Union of Liberia will convene an extraordinary congress this Saturday, September 21, for the sole purpose of re-running the November 2022 disputed election.
Following an exhausting clean-up exercise of the membership roll, as mandated by the Resident Judge of the 9th Judicial Circuit Court in Gbarnga, B**g County, 1,186 members from across the country are expected to cast their votes.
According to a release form the PUL, six candidates are vying for four Union positions.

Those qualified for the November 2022 elections are candidates Daniel Nyakonah and Julius Kanubah for the President and candidates Bettie K. Johnson Mbayo and Beatrice Sieh, for the Vice Presidency. Candidates Akoi M. Baysah, Jr. and Julius N. Kouton are both contesting the Secretary-General and Assistant Secretary-General positions unopposed.
Saturday’s extraordinary congress will take place at the Effort Baptist Church School on Howard Avenue, adjacent the Paynesville City Hall.
The PUL has endured nearly two years of conflict, triggered by the bitter election dispute. A press release from the Interim Committee (IC), mandated to manage the election says while there may be moments of disagreement and misunderstanding; let all unionists remember the common ground that unites the PUL - a shared commitment to informing and enlightening our communities.
The Convener of the IC, Peter Quaqua is quoted as saying, “The Committee is aware of the full extent of the disagreement in the Union but calls on members to work together to redeem the organization.
“The scars of the disagreements run deep and the challenges are immense. But let us remember the pioneering role the Union has played in the democratic development of the country as we prepare to observe 60 years of the founding of the Union on September 30th,” Quaqua says.
“As an advocacy organization, the Union cannot afford to relegate itself to the back seat in an era increasingly marred by disinformation and misinformation,” the head of the PUL Interim Committee added.

Tweh, Twehway and others Persons of Interest as LNP summons them for questioning in Emmanuel Barthan Nyeswa's Death.

The Liberia National Police (LNP) has announced the summoning of several individuals for questioning in connection with the death of Emmanuel Barthan Nyeswa, the former Director General of the Internal Audit Agency.

According to LNP's release, those who have been summoned are former Finance and Development Planning Minister Samuel D. Tweh, River Cess County Senator Bill T. Twehway, Senator, former Health Minister Wilhelmina Jallah, and Mr. Trokon Williams.

Emmanuel Barthan Nyeswa was found dead at his residence on 72nd Boulevard on October 10, 2020. His death came shortly after the deaths of three other auditors within a span of eight days in Monrovia:

Albert Peters (Internal Audit) and Gifty Lama (Taxpayers Services Division) from the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA), and George Fanbutu (External Audit).

The circumstances surrounding these deaths remain unclear and have raised significant concerns about the safety of those in the auditing profession in Liberia.

Nyeswa's death, in particular, has been shrouded in mystery, with initial reports indicating that he had been at D’Calabash, an amusement spot along the Congo Town backroad, with friends before returning home after midnight on the day of his death.

In a statement, the Liberia National Police said, "The LNP is committed to conducting a thorough investigation into the death of Mr. Emmanuel Barthan Nyeswa. We have invited several individuals who may have relevant information to assist in our ongoing inquiries. We urge anyone with additional information to come forward to aid our investigation."

The police are reportedly focusing on gathering more details about Nyeswa’s activities on the night of his death and any potential connections to the other auditor deaths.

The LNP has assured the public that they are determined to uncover the truth behind these tragic incidents and bring justice to the families affected.

“Provide the evidences to prove your case” a Human Rights Defender tells Senator Nathaniel McGill days after he told Liberians that his sanction was a “mistaken identity”.

The lead Human Rights Defender at the Delta Human Rights Foundation, Mr. Jessie Barchue Cole wants Senator Nathaniel Falo McGill provide evidences to prove his sanction case against him.

Recently, the Margibi County Senator told journalists that his sanction by the US was a “mistaken identity”.

According to Senator McGill, people used his voice and name to lie on him that later led to his sanction by the Global Magnisky Act for “massive corruption” in 2022.

But shortly reacting to the assertion, Mr. Jessie Cole said it’s rare, but will only be determined or proven at the Court.

He also wants the government take on the task to ensure his full investigation.

At the same time, the Delta Human Rights Foundation boss has pledged support for the establishment of the War and Economic Crimes Court in Liberia.

Mr. Cole told Premium FM that the court will enable the accused to have their days in court.

He believes that the judicial process is not a witch hunt as perceived by many, but rather a place for justice.

“Unpatriotic posture by citizens to refuse the country’s legal tender” says a classroom teacher.

A renowned classroom teacher wants the Liberian Government through the Central Bank of Liberia release a “strong warning” against Liberians who are rejecting the Liberian Dollars even after the deadline.

Mr. Philip Lepolu Mulbah also attributed the citizens’ action to being unpatriotic.

Philip thinks if serious caveats are sent to the public, it will curtail citizens’ refusal.

The Central Bank of Liberia has since set March 31, 2024 as the deadline for what it calls “Liberia Series One and two or old money” which were printed between 2003-2009 and 2016-2017, with the latter carrying denominations of L$500 higher to be in circulation.

The CBL also clarified that these money will still be valid on the market even after the deadline.

But as it stands, many business people across the country have started refusing the money, thus causing serious embarrassment for others across the country.

There has also been report of fighting in some parts of the country while others are denied from transacting with the old money.

Philip Lepolu Mulbah however called on the Joseph Boakai government to be proactive.

Appoint a qualified son of B**g County to the Supreme Court Bench as Associate Justice

The Regional coordinator for the Justice and Peace Commission, Mr. George Philip Mulbah wants the appointment of a son of B**g County on the Supreme Court Bench.

According to Mr. Mulbah, the vacant seat should be occupied by a qualified son of the county.

Since 2022, B**g’s citizens have maintained calls for the Resident Circuit Court Judge, Cllr. J. Boimah Kontoe to be named as an Associate Justice, but such call has not yielded any positive result thus far.

Judge Kontoe who has practiced for decades in the country has also served as an Ad Hoc judge on the Supreme Court Bench if there’s a vacancy or absence of an Associate Justice in the country.

George Philip Mulbah wants the caucus make the necessary recommendation to the president for appointment stressing that such nominee will perform to the fullest in representing the country.

At the same time, the regional JPC coordinator wants the pretrial detainees’ cases handled to avoid over-crowdedness of the Gbarnga Prison Compound.

Currently, there are 289 inmates at the Gbarnga Central Prison instead of 130 inmates as was originally intended.

Meanwhile, Mr. George Philip Mulbah has also called on the Ministry of Justice to place volunteers on the payroll to ensure efficiency and productivity.

He thinks individuals who are volunteering their services at the various courts across the country should be given the chance rather than looking elsewhere for appointment.

Sons of B**g County have lauded the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency Director General, Abraham Kromah, for his immediate steps taken to tackle drugs in the country.

By: Harris Korheina

Since his appointment as LDEA head in the country, Abe Kromah has been relentless in executing his duties thus leading to several arrests of drugs smugglers, users and dealers in and out of Monrovia.

Recently, the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency in River Cess arrested a 40 year old Nigerian National for being in possession of he**in and co***ne value at 5 million Liberian dollars.
The suspect identified as Friday Iloma, was arrested in Gbeapo Kanweaken District.

Speaking recently to reporters in Gbarnga Tuesday, the B**g County residents recommended that the drugs law take effect to deter drugs users in Liberia.
The drug law, passed by former President George Weah, amongst other categories, give a minimum of ten years and a maximum of 20 years from any violator in Liberia.

The B**g County citizens stated that the continuous intake of drugs by some young people is corrupting the next generation.

They are also calling for a concreted effort to eradicate drugs from the country.

The office of B**g County Senator Prince K. Moye has sharply reacted to a video calculating on Facebook, linking the senator to NASSCORP officer in charge appointment.

Speaking to a team of journalists Tuesday March 5,2024, the Media Consultant to Hon. Moye,J. Martin Lawor said the office of Senator remain committed to upholding the rule of law, while also respecting the fundamental rights of all Liberians and foreign residents within Liberia.

He said senator was honorably invited to grace the turning-over ceremony of the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) Cllr. Marfee Kanneh, who was appointed by the President of the Republic of Liberia- Amb. Joseph Nyuma Boakai on the 27th of February 2024, something he says the official in charge (the wife of former LACE boss Pepsi Yeki) refused to turn over on grounds that the appointment of Cllr. Kanneh was not placed on the Executive Mansion website or page, the senator called on the OIC appointed to work with the mansion to do the needful.

He voice that the branches of the Liberian government are distinct in function, but coordinate on issues of common interests to the Liberian people, as such the Senator has always been collaborating with other officials of the Liberian government and private sector stakeholders on matter of interests to the growth and forward movement of the state, without in any way trying to interfere with the their functions.

He believes the President of the Republic of Liberia has the exclusive authority to appoint officials of the Liberian government, and Senator Moye will do absolutely nothing to influence or subvert such decisions.

Recently, there has been public speculation that the 2023 National Champaign Manager of Unity Party is influencing the appointment of many Liberian in the administration of President Boakai.
A statement, Martin feels is only intended to defaced the reputation of Senator Prince K. Moye in the County, though he is striving for the improvement of the country and its people.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEPUL Controversy – Team Kanubah Welcomes Supreme Court’s Hearing May 2, 2023.

The National Campaign Management Team of Julius Kanubah for the presidency of the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) has welcomed Tuesday’s hearing into its Bill of Information by the Full Bench of the Supreme Court.

Team Kanubah filed the Bill of Information raising substantive legal and procedural issues in the wake of a December 30, 2022 Mandate by Associate Justice Joseph N. Nagbe.

Justice Nagbe, following a December Conference, had ordered Judge Boima Kontoe to lift the Stay Order placed on all PUL activities including the so-called induction of illegitimately elected officers.

“We believe today’s hearing by the Full Bench of the Supreme Court signals yet another legal path in pursuit of impartial justice, which Team Kanubah considers a MUST.”

Tuesday’s hearing at the Supreme Court was presided over by Chief Justice Sie–A–Nyene Gyapay Yuoh with Associate Justice Yussif D. Kaba participating along with Associate Justice Jamesetta Howard Wolokollie, who participated via online.

Justice Nagbe, whose action necessitated the Team Kanubah Bill of Information, was in attendance but recused himself in line with legal practice.

Justice Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay also recused himself because of a family relationship with Mr. Daniel Nyakonah, who is one of the defendants in Team Kanubah’s original Petition for Declaratory Judgment case against the now expired leadership of the PUL.

Meanwhile, as the Supreme Court has reserved ruling into the Bill of Information, Team Kanubah calls on Attorney-at-Law Patmillia Doe Paivey, the Center for Media Studies and Peacebuilding of Mr. Malcolm Joseph to stay clear of the World Press Freedom Day celebrations under the auspices of the PUL expired leadership.

Gracing any event organized by the expired leadership of national politicians Messrs.

Charles Coffey and Musa Kenneh along with Daniel Nyakonah and Akoi Baysah is an affront to the December 15, 2022 Stay Order placed on all activities of the PUL former administration by the 9th Judicial Circuit Court sitting in Gbarnga, B**g County.

“We would like to remind Atty. Patmillia Doe Paivey and the Center for Media Studies and Peacebuilding of Mr. Malcolm Joseph that associating with individuals who are under a legal restraining order from conducting the affairs of the PUL amounts to aiding and abetting disrespect for the rule of law, which have consequences.”

The PUL expired leadership of Coffey, Nyakonah, Kenneh, and Baysah has continuously ignored the Judge’s Stay Order since December 2022 after failing to produce a credible Membership Register which is critical to the conduct of legitimate Congress and subsequent elections of the PUL.

Team Kanubah believes it is therefore shameful for individuals and organizations such as the Center for Media Studies and Peacebuilding to be partnering with the expired leadership of the PUL which is on record for flagrantly violating the Union’s Constitution and conducting Mid-Night elections, thereby denying the rights of majority journalists and media practitioners to a credible and legitimate leadership.
