MINISTER OF JUSTICE DISMISSES REPORT OF INVOLVEMENT IN ILLEGAL MINING ACTIVITIES

The Office of the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Republic of Liberia, Cllr. Oswald N. Tweh, strongly refutes and dismisses as false, misleading, and unfounded recent claims alleging that the Minister and his Chief of Staff are involved in illegal mining activities.

The claims which originated from a caller on the “OK Afternoon Conversation” program aired on Monday, who falsely alleged that the Chief of Staff to the Minister of Justice was seen at a mining site.

The Office of the Minister of Justice categorically denies these allegations, clarifying that neither Minister Tweh nor any member of his office is involved directly or indirectly in any form of mining activity, whether legal or illegal.

“These claims are entirely baseless and intended to tarnish the reputation of the Minister and the integrity of the Ministry of Justice,” the statement emphasized. “We challenge those making such allegations to produce credible evidence to substantiate their claims instead of engaging in reckless speculation and misinformation.”

The Ministry reaffirms its unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that all acts of illegal mining and natural resource exploitation are investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the laws of Liberia.

The Office of the Minister assures the public that it remains focused on its core mandate of administering justice, strengthening the rule of law, and protecting the interests of the Liberian people.

Liberia’s Chief Justice Yamie Gbeisay has issued a stern warning to all judges and magistrates to declare their assets within one month or face administrative consequences.

Speaking at the opening of the October term of the Supreme Court, Chief Justice Gbeisay emphasized that failure to comply with the asset declaration requirement would attract strict action.

He further revealed that on September 4, 2025, he invited the General Auditing Commission to audit the immediate past stewardship.

The Chief Justice clarified that the audit is not a witch-hunt but an effort to maintain accurate records for future reference, countering the perception that everyone in government is corrupt.

Former Inspector General of the Ministry of Commerce, Dorr Cooper, has described the Citizens Movement for Change Party as a “separatist movement” allegedly established by his kinsman, Representative Musa Hassan Bility.

Mr. Cooper, one-time close ally of the Nimba County District #7 lawmaker, has seen his relationship with Bility deteriorate over time — leading to a series of public verbal exchanges between the two.

During one of his appearances on the OK Morning Rush, Rep. Bility accused Mr. Cooper of working for the Office of the Vice President, among other allegations.

In response, Mr. Cooper dismissed the claims as politically motivated and intended to sow division among the people of Nimba County.

Education Minister Dr. Jarso Jallah has made a compelling call for reform in the education sector, with special focus on teacher development.

Dr. Jallah stated that no education system can rise above the quality of its teachers—stressing the need for stronger teacher training, better curriculum reform, and improved support for educators.

The Education Minister was speaking on Monday in Kakata at the opening of an 18-day revision, alignment, and validation workshop for the Early Childhood Education “C” and Primary “C” Certificates curricula for teacher training institutions in Liberia.

Supported by the European Union under the Regional Teacher Initiative for Africa, the workshop highlights the urgency of addressing learning gaps, especially at the early childhood level.

Suspended Deputy Minister Bryant McGill Draws Biblical Parallels Amid R**e Allegation, Declares Faith in Justice System

MONROVIA, October 13, 2025 — Suspended Deputy Minister Bryant McGill, who is facing allegations of r**e, has broken his silence after four weeks, drawing parallels between his ordeal and biblical stories of false accusation and ultimate vindication.

In a reflective statement titled “Biblical Narratives That Mirror My Situation,” McGill compared his experience to figures such as Joseph, Daniel, and Davidmen in the Bible who, he said, were wrongfully accused but later vindicated by God.

“Integrity will always outlive false accusation,” McGill wrote, referencing the story of Joseph and Potiphar’s wife. He added that “no scheme against the righteous can stand before God,” citing the example of Daniel in the lions’ den.

The suspended deputy minister said he continues to trust in God’s justice and Liberia’s legal system. “Evil may hide for a time, but light always uncovers darkness. My conscience is clear, my faith remains firm, and my confidence in the justice system of Liberia is unwavering,” he said.

McGill expressed gratitude to Liberians and international partners “who have stood in prayer, patience, and fairness during this process.”

The former deputy minister was suspended last month pending investigation into an allegation of r**e, which he has consistently denied.
In closing his message, McGill shifted tone to a personal note, celebrating his marriage milestone: “Happy 24th Wedding Anniversary to my happy union.”

Jackson F. Doe Memorial Regional Referral Hospital Commissions New Vehicles in Line with the President’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development

Tappita, Nimba County – The management of the Jackson F. Doe Memorial Regional Referral Hospital (JFD Hospital) today commissioned three brand-new pickup trucks and a 18-seater bus to boost its logistical capacity and improve healthcare service delivery across Liberia’s southeastern and central regions.

This milestone marks a significant breakthrough for the institution, which has not had any functional vehicles since 2015. Over the years, the lack of transportation severely constrained the hospital’s ability to deliver essential services, transport staff, and respond promptly to medical emergencies.

The newly commissioned vehicles will therefore play a crucial role in restoring mobility, improving operational efficiency, and ensuring timely service delivery to patients and communities. In addition, two new ambulances are expected to arrive in December 2025, further enhancing the hospital’s emergency response and patient referral system.

This initiative is in direct alignment with the President of Liberia’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID), which prioritizes Agriculture, Roads, Rule of Law, Education, Sanitation, and Tourism as key pillars for national progress. The acquisition of these vehicles reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening the health sector and ensuring equitable access to quality healthcare for all Liberians.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Dr. Victor Kaizer, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of JFD Hospital, expressed profound appreciation to the Government of Liberia, the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP) for their continued support and collaboration.

“For nearly a decade, our institution operated without any functional vehicles, making service delivery extremely difficult. The commissioning of these pickups and bus marks a major step forward for the Jackson F. Doe Hospital and demonstrates the government’s commitment under the ARREST Agenda to improving access to essential services for all Liberians,” Dr. Kaizer stated.

He further commended His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Liberia, for his confidence and leadership in promoting inclusive national development, and reaffirmed the hospital’s commitment to supporting the government’s broader healthcare goals.

The commissioning ceremony was graced by key government officials, including the Mayor of Tappita, who performed the official commissioning, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Health, MFDP, development partners, and local stakeholders.

Since his appointment in 2024, Dr. Kaizer has led the hospital through a period of transformation characterized by:

Rehabilitation and modernization of key hospital departments, including the emergency ward, maternity unit, and diagnostic laboratory.

Recruitment and training of qualified medical and administrative staff.

Introduction of digital health records to improve efficiency and patient care.

Expansion of partnerships with national and international health organizations.

Improvement of staff welfare and motivation, leading to greater efficiency and performance.

These efforts continue to position JFD Hospital as a model of excellence in Liberia’s healthcare system.

GENERAL AUDITING COMMISSION PRESS RELEASE ON THE ELECTIONS OF AUDITOR GENERAL AS CHAIRMAN OF ECOSAI

(Monday, October 13, 2025) The Auditor General of Liberia, Hon. P. Garswa Jackson, Sr., has been elected Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States Supreme Audit Institutions (ECOSAI) for a period of two years.
Auditor General Jackson was elected unopposed by twelve of his colleagues at the Third Meeting of the ECOWAS Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ECOSAI) held in the Ghanaian capital, Accra, from the 7th to the 11th of October, 2025. Hon. Jackson replaces the Auditor General of Ghana, Hon. Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu.
At the ECOWAS Meeting of Auditors General, Auditor General Garswa Jackson delivered a presentation on the establishment and implementation of an Audit Follow-up Mechanism by the General Auditing Commission (GAC). He explained that the system has been designed in line with INTOSAI principles and Liberia’s Public Financial Management framework to ensure that audit recommendations are systematically tracked, monitored, and acted upon. The presentation outlined key components such as a corrective action plan, audit recommendation tracker, follow-up dashboards, and collaboration with key stakeholders including the Public Accounts Committee, Internal Audit Agency, and Ministry of Finance. These tools and processes, according to him, aimed to strengthen accountability, promote compliance, and improve audit effectiveness across government entities.
Members noted after his presentation that, in large part because of a lack of institutional ownership and limited enforcement, the adoption of audit recommendations is still low throughout the region. Citing Ghana's experience, where robust government support—including the president's pledge to create commercial courts for audit-related cases—has enhanced compliance and resulted in fund recoveries, the auditor-general of Ghana underlined the significance of executive buy-in in attaining results. Members concurred that maintaining inter-institutional cooperation and political will is essential to guaranteeing the prompt and successful ex*****on of audit recommendations.
At the end of the comprehensive and practical presentation by Hon. Jackson, his colleagues commended the insightful deliberations on how structured follow-up systems can improve audit impacts across the region. They thanked Auditor General Jackson for the unique tools produced and decided to have them contextualized across member nations.
Other key issues discussed at the meeting include the ECOWAS LEVY AUDIT, the Member State 4.5% Community Levy Subvention Audit, and the Collaborative Audit Planning of the ECOWAS Community Levy.
Auditor General Jackson was also elected alongside the Auditors General of Guinea-Bissau and Benin as first and second vice chairpersons, respectively..

The House Press Bureau has described as false, unfounded, and misleading recent reports circulating on social media alleging a plan for removal of Deputy Speaker Hon. Thomas Pangar Fallah from his position.

According to the Press Director Robert Haynes, Deputy Speaker Fallah continues to enjoy the full confidence and support of Speaker Hon. Richard Nagbe Koon and the entire membership of the House of Representatives.

The Press Director clarifies that the Deputy Speaker remains actively engaged in the work of the Legislature. Fresh from representing Liberia as part of the official government delegation to the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) held in New York, USA, Hon. Fallah has since returned home and was warmly welcomed by Speaker Koon and his colleagues.

“These social media reports are nothing but deliberate attempts to cause distraction,” the Haynes noted. “The Deputy Speaker and members of the House remain focused as the Legislature has officially commenced its third and final quarter session for this year.”

The Bureau reaffirmed the commitment of the House of Representatives to continue carrying out its fiduciary duties and the mandate entrusted to it by the Liberian people, in an atmosphere of unity and dedication.

The House Press Bureau therefore calls on the public not to be swayed by baseless propaganda intended to undermine the smooth operations of the Legislature.
