President Boakai highlighted his Administration’s commitment to upholding good governance, the rule of law, and Liberia’s longstanding partnership with the United States.

President Boakai Issues Executive Order No. 150 to Suspend Import Tariff on Rice

June 5, 2025

Executive Mansion, Monrovia – In an effort to ease the economic burden on Liberians and stabilize the price of rice, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., has signed Executive Order No. 150, extending the suspension of import tariffs on rice.

Recognizing the mounting pressures of the high cost of living and the critical importance of rice as Liberia’s staple food, President Boakai’s latest Executive Order continues the provisions of Executive Order No. 125, removing import tariffs on key rice categories to ensure affordability and accessibility for every Liberian.

Under this new directive, import tariffs are suspended on rice classified under the following HS Codes:
• 1006.30.10.00 – Semi-milled or wholly milled rice, whether or not polished or glazed, in packings of more than 5kg or in bulk
• 1006.40.00.00 – Broken rice

This measure takes immediate effect and is part of the government’s broader strategy to promote food security, market stability, and economic relief for all citizens.

The Government remains committed to taking practical steps that alleviate the financial stress on ordinary Liberians.

President Boakai reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to protect the purchasing power of Liberian households and maintain national food stability amid rising global economic pressures.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Liberia Revenue Authority, and all relevant agencies are directed to ensure the full and timely implementation of Executive Order No. 150.

Following President Boakai’s private jet near crash situation, Turkish's Government sent investigators to Investigate the Cause of the incident on the request of Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti…

The Government of Türkiye has dispatched an emergency accident response team to Liberia’s Roberts International Airport (RIA), following the near-crash of President Joseph Boakai’s private plane on May 29, 2025.

The swift intervention, led by Mr. Altan Yasar Tekin, fulfills a commitment made by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to support Liberia’s aviation sector.

The incident has prompted a high-level Turkish delegation to visit Liberia from June 10–13 to assess RIA’s operational capacity and identify urgent infrastructure needs.

The planned visit follows an earlier diplomatic engagement in which Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti, on behalf of President Boakai, requested a government-to-government partnership to modernize RIA.

Türkiye’s Minister of Transport, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, reaffirmed Ankara’s commitment to enhancing airport safety and infrastructure as part of a broader economic diplomacy strategy.
