Sayeh Calls for Comprehensive Audits of Public Officials in Nimba County.

Sayeh has welcomed Senator Samuel Kogar’s recent request for an audit of the current Superintendent of Nimba County. He views this as a positive step toward transparency and accountability in local governance.

However, Sayeh has further urged Senator Kogar to ensure that the Office of Senator Prince Yormie Johnson (PYJ) is also audited, covering the period from 2006 to 2024. He emphasized that such a move is essential given the serious nature of the corruption allegations against Senator Johnson.

On December 9, 2021, under the Global Magnitsky Act and Executive Order 13818, Senator Prince Yormie Johnson was sanctioned by the United States government on the basis of multiple corruption-related offenses. Sayeh believes that auditing Senator Johnson’s office, followed by prosecution if necessary, would bring much-needed relief to impoverished communities in Gomahplay, Buutuo (Senator Johnson’s hometown) and across Liberia. Should the audit confirm any wrongdoing, Sayeh recommends that Senator Johnson’s properties be liquidated and the proceeds used to support underprivileged children in Nimba County.

In addition, Sayeh is also calling on Representative-Elect Kortor Kwagarue to initiate an audit of Senator Samuel Kogar, focusing on his tenure as Representative for Buu-Yao District from 2012 to 2025. Allegations have surfaced that during his time as Representative, Kogar accepted bribes commonly referred to as "brown envelopes," which compromised his ability to effectively represent his constituents. These allegations are underscored by the lack of qualified teachers in schools, poor road infrastructure, and inadequate healthcare delivery in the district.

Sayeh stresses that these claims can only be validated through a thorough and impartial audit. He calls on Representative-Elect Kwagarue to ensure that such an audit is conducted without delay. Should Senator Kogar be found guilty of corruption, Sayeh proposes that his assets be sold and the funds redirected toward improving the lives of disadvantaged children in Buu-Yao District.

Sayeh concluded by stating:

Our commitment to the fight against corruption in Liberia must not be selective. Regardless of individual status, we all have a duty to actively participate in the fight against corruption for the betterment of our nation.

Rebuttal to President Joseph Nyumah Boakai Sr.
By Cllr. Tiawan Saye Gongloe
Assistant Professor of law, and an Advocate for Constitutional Order & Human Rights

April 25, 2025

The Supreme Court of Liberia, in its Opinion and Judgment of April 23, 2025, unequivocally declared that:

“Any action or sitting of the majority bloc in which the elected speaker is not presiding despite being present and is not absent or incapacitated is unconstitutional. The action of the self-styled majority bloc’ is in total disregard for the rule of law.”

Mr. President, this ruling is final and must be honored without delay or qualification, consistent with article 65 of the Constitution of Liberia which provides, “...Judgments of the Supreme Court shall be final and binding and shall not be subject to appeal or review by any other branch of Government.”

Additionally, article 66 of the same constitution says, “ The Supreme Court shall be the final arbiter of constitutional issues…” Hence, when the Supreme Court speaks, all must obey.

Mr. President, your recent assertion that your administration will “continue to work with the quorum that ensures full functioning of our government” flagrantly disregards this clear and authoritative ruling of the Supreme Court. It undermines the constitutional foundation of Liberia’s governance and weakens public trust in the rule of law.

The Court has spoken. As such, all government officials, members of the House of Representatives, citizens of Liberia, diplomatic partners, and both local and international business entities must comply fully with the Court’s judgment.

The legal dispute in the House has been resolved. The legitimate and constitutionally recognized presiding officer of the House of Representatives is Speaker J. Fonati Koffa.

A true commitment to the rule of law is not expressed in words, but in action. It is demonstrated by unreserved respect for the opinion of the highest Court in the land.

In 2000, following the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in an electoral dispute, former Vice President Al Gore conceded gracefully and said: “Now the U.S. Supreme Court has spoken. Let there be no doubt, while I strongly disagree with the court’s decision, I accept it.”

This is the type of statesmanship Liberia needs now from you, Mr. President. No ambiguity!

I call upon you Mr. President to:
1. Instruct all government officials to cease any statements or actions that question the legitimacy of the Supreme Court’s opinion.

2. Warn that any official who undermines the Court’s authority may face suspension or dismissal.

3. Urge all members of the House of Representatives to abide by the Court’s decision, because the law is the law.

4. Ensure all official communications to the House of Representatives or the Legislature from you or any of your officials are addressed to Speaker J. Fonati Koffa.

5. Withdraw all security details, vehicles, and support currently attached to Hon. Koon and restore them to Speaker Koffa.

Any defiance of this ruling by you or your officials, or legislators invites chaos and disorder, thereby undermining the ability of the government to serve the Liberian people effectively.

Moreover, your failure to fully recognize and implement the Supreme Court’s opinion will constitute a gross breach of constitutional duty. It will tarnish Liberia’s image internationally and may jeopardize our country’s bid for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council. It could also deter vital foreign investment by signaling that your administration does not uphold the rule of law.

Let there be no ambiguity: Liberia’s peace, democratic stability, and global credibility depend on unwavering respect for the rule of law.

I urge you, Mr. President, to rise to this moment—not in service to political factions, but in defense of the Constitution, the Judiciary, and the Liberian people. A word to the wise is quite sufficient. Please listen, while there is time, Mr. President.

A better Liberia is possible only with commitment to adherence to the rule of law without reservation.

🔥 STAND CALLS EMERGENCY MASS ACTION MEETING – TOMORROW! 🔥

THE RULE OF LAW IS UNDER ATTACK. DEMOCRACY IS IN DANGER. LIBERIA IS AT A CROSSROADS; THE PEOPLE MUST RISE & RESIST!

In a blatant and calculated act of defiance, President Joseph Boakai has deliberately ignored the Supreme Court’s ruling on the House leadership crisis. This flagrant disregard for the rule of law is an open rebellion against our Constitution, the people’s will, and a direct assault on the judiciary—the very branch that guarantees justice.

This is not politics. This is tyranny.

STAND hereby issues a historic and urgent call to every patriot, every defender of justice, and every believer in the rule of law:

COME TOGETHER. STAND TOGETHER. RISE TOGETHER.
Join the EMERGENCY MASS ACTION MEETING this Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 2 PM at STAND Headquarters, Congo Town

President Boakai’s lawless arrogance is a direct threat to every Liberian’s freedom. If we remain silent now, we surrender our future.

We, the People, must not only ACT—we must RESIST, CONFRONT, and DEFEAT this creeping dictatorship before it takes root.

THE TIME IS NOW.
ALL POWER IS INHERENT IN THE PEOPLE.
WE MUST STOP President Boakai’s Tyranny NOW & SAVE LIBERIA.

Meanwhile, as momentum builds for the July 17 ‘ENOUGH IS ENOUGH’ nationwide protest, members of the WE THE PEOPLE Movement are also called to attend this crucial meeting, which will be used to make cardinal decisions pertinent to the success of JULY 17th, THE DAY OF THE PEOPLE’s Protest.

This is a clarion call to all Liberians who believe in justice, reform, and a brighter future. You are strongly encouraged to attend—
Spread the word far and wide. Come early. Come ready. Come determined.
This is not just a meeting—it’s the beginning of a people-powered movement to protect the rule of law.

In her first State of the Nation address, Namibia’s First Female President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has announced that the government will provide free higher education at state-run universities and technical colleges starting in 2026.

The new policy eliminates tuition and registration fees for public tertiary institutions. It aims to tackle youth unemployment and poverty in a country where over two-thirds of the population is under 35.

“We have heard your cries,” Nandi-Ndaitwah told Parliament. “From the next academic year, tertiary education will become 100% subsidized by the government,” she added. The policy will apply to two public universities and seven government-run vocational training centers.
