An organisation under the banner Association of County Steering Committee Chairpersons has described as untimely and embarrassing the abrupt postponement of the 2023/2024 National County Sports Meet (NCSM) by the Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Speaking in a joint Press conference the Spokesperson for the group Abdul Kanneh said postponing the County Meet hours ahead of its official commecement was unacceptable especially following massive arrangements already done by the participating Teams.
As Counties Steering Committees, he told the media that prior to the postponement they made huge expenses, spending thousands of United States Dollars ranging from signing of players, early preparations, renting of hotels, purchasing of players materials and payment of key players amongst others.
The committee further called on the government of Liberia through the Ministry of Youth and Sports to do reimbursement to the Counties to enable them settle some of their expenses already made especially when bulk of the monies used were outsourced including crediting with assurances of paying back with interest to their creditors.
He however stated that as they patiently await the new date to be announced next year, they encourage the government to do the needful.
" We are also calling on the the transitional team to take due cognizance and intervene as the Counties will be left with no alternative but to stage an endless mass based protest so as to ensure that the Ministry settle the debts owed by various Counties as a result of the abrupt postponement of this yearβs National Sports Meet " Abdul noted
Lamenting at the same time the Chairperson of Margibi County sports steering committee Abu G.Fofana said postponing the County Meet has brought serious embarrassment to the Counties including the players.
" We will not rest until we get out of this embarrassment by the Ministry of Youth and Sports in meeting out demands " Fofana disclosed.
