Superintendent Hon.O Jay Godfavor Morris Jr. outlined several key initiatives and concerns regarding Margibi’s development and resource allocation during his appearance on Classic FM 93.9 on yesterday.
He noted that Cavalla Resources Inc., a subsidiary of BHP Billiton, has contributed US $360,000 for scholarships, while China Union recently paid US $8 million into the government’s consolidated account for B**g, Margibi, and Montserrado counties. Superintendent Morris questioned why B**g County receives 50% of China Union’s Social Development Funds despite Margibi having 26 affected towns and villages compared to B**g’s six.
He further revealed that West Crest owes Margibi 2% of its annual operations budget for six years and has yet to pay, even as the company seeks to explore Gibi Mountain. Margibi has been allotted US $346,000 for county social development funds, which will support projects such as constructing chiefdom headquarters, installing street lights at major intersections in Kakata, and building an event hall at the new administrative building with a capacity of over 1,500 people.
Superintendent Morris emphasized that these initiatives aim to dignify local chiefs and improve infrastructure for the people of Margibi.
