Liberians and their stereotypical nonsense.

A poor struggling woman has been doing her small (cold bowl) business for years, and because that business is now booming, some people suddenly claim (out of jealousy) she was putting f***s in food meant for the general public.

Where is the evidence? Who saw it? Who documented it? Where is the proof? You weren’t there, you didn’t witness it, and speculation is not evidence.

And to you idiots in this video, just so you know: Mandingo people are one of Liberia’s 16 recognized tribes. They are Liberian citizens. They belong here, and they have every right to live, work, do business and succeed in this country like every other Liberian.

Would you have said the same thing if this woman were Kpelleh or Lorma?

If someone committed a health violation, produce the evidence, investigate it and hold that individual accountable. Do not take an unproven allegation and turn it into an attack on an entire tribe or religion.

These things need to stop. People must desist from spreading accusations they cannot prove and using them to fuel tribal and religious prejudice.

Bring evidence. Establish the facts. Then speak.

JEWEL HOWARD-TAYLOR: ARREST, JUSTICE AND THE BIGGER QUESTION

Liberians have become accustomed to trying people on social media before they ever enter a courtroom. Once an accusation is made, the accused can become guilty in the court of public opinion long before evidence is tested.

That is dangerous.

The arrest of former Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor over allegations connected to a major drug investigation should concern every Liberian—not because she is above the law, but because due process must apply to everyone.

The allegations are serious. If the evidence proves she was involved, she should face the full weight of the law. But an arrest is not a conviction, and an accusation is not evidence of guilt.

The continued uncertainty surrounding the case, including the absence of a clear indictment, naturally raises concerns about where the prosecution is headed and what has happened to the much-publicized drug bust.

A drug operation of that magnitude cannot exist through one person alone. There are suppliers, financiers, couriers, facilitators and those who provide protection and access. Liberia's anti-drug fight must ultimately expose the entire network—not simply focus on the most recognizable name.

And then there is Jewel the woman.

Whatever one's politics, her years of public service, including her work involving women, girls, education and empowerment, should not simply disappear because she now faces serious allegations.

Liberia must also confront how it treats women in public life. Women are often judged more harshly than men, personally as well as professionally. That does not mean women should be protected from accountability. It means **the same standard must apply to everyone.

If Jewel is guilty, let the evidence prove it.

If she is not, let the law protect her.

What Liberia cannot afford is trial by Facebook, conviction by public opinion, or justice influenced by politics.

This case should ultimately be about more than Jewel Howard-Taylor. It should be about whether Liberia can pursue the powerful, fight the drug trade and protect due process—all at the same time.

Let’s settle this Liberian marriage argument once and for all—or at least start the fight!

In Liberia, we love to say, “We are married, so what is yours is mine and what is mine is yours.”Your money is mine. My money is ours. Your children are our children. Your problems? Definitely our problems!

But when it comes to the phone, suddenly there is a password, fingerprint, Face ID and sometimes even “Please respect my privacy.”

So here is the question: Does marriage give you the right to check your spouse’s phone whenever you want?

Some couples believe there should be absolutely no secrets in marriage. Others believe that being married does not mean surrendering every ounce of personal privacy.

But here's where it gets interesting: If you have never suspected your spouse of anything, why are you checking the phone? And if you constantly feel the need to check, is the real problem the phone—or the trust in the marriage?

At the same time, let's not pretend that secrecy doesn't exist. A spouse who suddenly becomes extremely protective of a phone, changes passwords without explanation, turns the screen away, or becomes nervous whenever their partner comes near it may understandably raise questions.

But suspicion is not proof.

Marriage needs honesty, communication and trust—not a husband playing FBI and a wife playing CIA! 😂
