National Transit Authority Welcomes Arrival of New Fleet to Strengthen Public Transportation

November 4, 2025

Monrovia, Liberia-The National Transit Authority (NTA) is pleased to announce the arrival of the first thirty-five (35) buses out of a total fleet of sixty (60) vehicles being procured under a contractual agreement between ABK Motors Incorporated and the National Transit Authority.
In its January 2025 sitting, the Board of Directors of the NTA approved and authorized management, through a formal resolution, to finalize and execute an agreement with ABK Motors Incorporated for the provision of:

" 35 brand-new TATA mass transit buses (62-seater)
" 20 mini-buses (18-seater)
" 5 heavy-duty cargo trucks

This initiative is designed to strengthen the NTA existing operational capacity, ensuring efficient, affordable, and reliable public transport services across Liberia. Notably, the inclusion of cargo-handling trucks marks the first time in the NTA's history that such services will be offered, broadening the scope of its operations and impact.

The arrival of the first 35 brand-new TATA buses represents a significant milestone in the Government of Liberia's clearer vision to modernize and expand the nation's public transportation system. With additional mini-buses and cargo trucks expected in the coming months, this partnership underscores the government's and NTA's commitment to improving mobility, accessibility, and economic growth throughout the country.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

President Boakai Declares Bold National Response to Drug Crisis in Liberia

August 6, 2025

Executive Mansion, Monrovia: - Following receipt of the Progress Report of the
Multisectoral Steering Committee on Drugs and Substance Abuse, President Joseph
Nyuma Boakai, Sr., has issued a Special Presidential Statement announcing an
aggressive, multi-prong National Anti-Drug Action Plan in response to the alarming surge
of drug abuse and trafficking across the country.

He described the proliferation of drugs as “an attack on our future” and reaffirmed his
unwavering commitment to safeguard Liberia’s youth, communities, and future
generations from the scourge of substance abuse. “We cannot allow the spread of illicit
drugs to turn our children into victims, our communities into ghettos, and our
neighborhoods into shelters for criminal elements,” the President declared.

The Liberian Leader commended the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) for its
relentless efforts and extended special recognition to the Multisectoral Steering
Committee on Drugs and Substance Abuse for its coordinated work, highlighting the
recent progress report submitted to his Office.

He further lauded civil society groups and community organizations for raising their voices to increase awareness, draw attention to, and for taking a stand on this crucial national matter. He urged Liberians to forge a concerted effort in strategizing concrete actionable steps in complementing Government efforts.

The newly announced National Anti-Drug Action Plan, to be implemented immediately
and in accordance with law, includes:

• Seizure of Properties linked to drug activities, including prosecution of
landlords and accomplices.

• Performance Mandate for LDEA regional commanders with a six-month results deadline.

• National Whistleblower Program with cash rewards and protection for informants.

• Fast-Tracking of Drug Cases through the courts with mandatory sentencing.

• Expansion of Rehabilitation Centers and reintegration programs for
recovering users.

• Investment in Border Surveillance, scanners, canine units, and security
equipment.

•Introduction of Anti-Drug Curriculum in schools and random testing in high risk-areas.

• Reinforcement of the National Drug Emergency, enabling raids and lockdowns where necessary.

• Freezing of Assets belonging to suspected traffickers in collaboration with
financial institutions.

• Significant Budget Increases toward drug enforcement, education, and legal reforms.

President Boakai emphasized that the fight against drugs will be “non-selective and
relentless,” stressing that “no status, no title, no uniform, and no connection will protect
anyone involved in drugs.”

Despite fiscal constraints, the President has directed Liberia’s financial authorities to
prioritize funding for:

• Introduction of Anti-Drug Curriculum in schools and random testing in high-
• LDEA operational capacity and equipment,
• Rehabilitation infrastructure and staffing,
• Border and port security technologies,
• Nationwide public education and prevention campaigns,
• Legal and judicial sector reinforcements.

“Liberia will fund its own fight first,” President Boakai affirmed, while also calling on donors and international partners to support the renewed national drive.

In his closing appeal, the President urged all Liberians — from parents and educators to
leaders and citizens — to join the fight: “Together, we will not just fight, we will win.
Liberia will not lose another generation to drugs — not on my watch.”

JUST IN!!!!

Former Solicitor General Cyrenius Cephas writes:👇👇👇👇

“I am unwilling and unable to criticize the Boakai government for a number of reasons. Few of these reasons are stated ad verbatim as follows:
1. Our government didn't promote and protect those who stood in the vanguard of the struggle during the party's days in opposition;
2. Our government placed itself under the illusion of looking for experts and was comfortable of giving contracts, placing the likes of the current Minister of Justice on committees and boards at the expense of its own partisans;
3. Our leaders spent more time gossiping, faring lies and undermining those who did not share their sordid views;
4. The President was like a Christmas light only seen at official ceremonies and was only accessible to only few officials;
5. We undertook a lot of good projects but little results. Take example the population census;
6. Cabinet retreats were set aside for great fun rather than any meaningful exercise to discuss critical issues. The President was by and large the "Gopio" of the cabinet retreat;
7. The President valued recycled politicians in the government more than those he called friends who were determined to serve his government;
8. The government was "Weahcianized," a sort of odd reasoning that is reminiscent of George Orwell's "Animal Farm" so much that kids that were born into poverty were living like kings and queens;
9. Liberian foreign policy was on sale and could only go to the higher bidder even at the peril of national development. Take for instance the two separate votes against China;
10. Only personal friends of the President were favored for lucrative jobs; and
11. The structural leadership of governance in terms of power configuration was in the hands of southeasterner-vis a-vis minority tribe-Kru, namely the President, President Pro-Tempore and the Deputy speaker.
When I think of all these I feel guilty about criticizing the current government. Beyond this our former President who was fond of making music during his presidency is now on social media dancing all over the place. What else is shameful and childish than this? I don't have criticism for JNB yaaa!”

Breaking

The Government of Liberia has qualified for the MCC Compact Project in the tone of 500 Million United States Dollars for infrastructure development.

The Compact is the United States Government Program for under developed countries across the World.

To qualify for such program, there are multiple governance indicators to implement

The Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) has selected Liberia as newly eligible to develop a compact. Liberia was selected as eligible in recognition of the country’s commitment to pursuing critical economic and democratic governance reforms.

MCC expects all partner countries to continue to demonstrate an ongoing commitment to the principles of inclusive democratic governance that underpin MCC’s eligibility criteria. Eligibility does not guarantee that Liberia will receive a compact program. MCC and the U.S. Embassy look forward to working closely with the Government of Liberia to launch the compact development process.

The size and content of the final program is contingent on analytical work done in partnership between MCC and the Government of Liberia, the availability of funds, and approval of the proposed program by the MCC Board of Directors.

MCC is a U.S. government agency working to reduce global poverty through economic growth. Created in 2004, MCC provides time-limited grants that pair investments in infrastructure with policy and institutional reforms to countries that meet rigorous standards for good governance, fighting corruption, and respecting democratic rights.

“MCC is proud of our longstanding history with Liberia and is enthusiastic about embarking a new partnership to advance opportunities for the people of Liberia,” said MCC’s Chief Executive Officer Alice Albright.

Pregnant Woman, Husband and Two Children Dies In Tragic Fire Outbreak

On Wednesday, December 13, 2023, five persons died in a 3-story building following a tragic fire outbreak in the B**g Mines community along the Bushrod Island outside Monrovia.

The victims included Massa Kamara, a pregnant woman aged 40, Abdul Bigen aged 12, Hassan Bigen aged 3, and Wang Bigen a Chinese national and father to the two children.
The fire began during the early morning hour of 4am and residents in the area immediately contacted the HOTT FM Crime Watch Program to get in touch with the Liberia National Fire Service.

The Crime Watch Program which helps individuals with an emergency during the night hours immediately alerted the firefighters at the Liberia National Service.

Upon the firefighters' arrival on the scene, a member of the Crime Watch Program night bird team who was providing an update on the fire outbreak said that firefighters found it very difficult to enter the house premises because the only entrance was built with a steel door and locked.

“Occupants of the house were shouting and crying for help while the firefighters were trying very hard to enter the premises,” the Crime Watch Program night bird team member said.
He explained that after several attempts, the firefighters entered the premises of the building and made their way to the third floor of the building where the victims resided adding “all the entrances were locked”.

He indicated that the firefighters began battling the fire but their efforts could not yield any fruitful results because of the locked steel doors to the main entrance to the victims' apartment and all the rooms in the house.

A visit to the scene by the Crime Watch Program observed that the entrance to the building including bedrooms were all built with metal steel doors.

Kesselly Sumo, the head for operations at the Liberia National Fire Service when contacted by the Crime Watch Program said investigations are underway to establish the cause of the fire outbreak.
