Public Outcry Grows as Presidential Convoy Incidents Leave Citizens Dead
✍ Min Otis Mel Nax Jr.
A series of fatal incidents involving the president’s convoy has sparked nationwide outrage, with citizens demanding accountability and professional drivers for the state motorcades. The latest tragedy, in which a motorcyclist was struck killed including another innocent soul during the convoy’s high-speed. The usual killing by the president's convoy had intensified scrutiny of long-standing security protocols critics say prioritize power over public safety.
Witnesses describe the scenes as chaotic and traumatic.
"People were just going about their day," said a lady who saw the incident unfold.
There was no warning just sirens, speed, and then screams. Sad 😪!!
Human rights and activists reports that this is not an isolated case. In a period of two years, multiple citizens including street vendors, motorcyclists, and schoolchildren have been injured or killed in collisions linked to the presidential motorcade. In many instances, families say they were left without explanations, compensation, or even official acknowledgment.
Government spokespersons have declined to comment on specific incidents, insisting that the security of the head of state requires strict convoy procedures. However, many analysts argue that the current system is excessively aggressive, outdated, and incompatible with densely populated urban and rural areas.
The deaths we are seeing are avoidable, said a representative from a road-safety watchdog.
Absolutely no leader should be protected in a way that endangers the very people they were elected to serve.
Public frustration has spilled into demonstrations, with citizens calling for transparent investigations and revised convoy regulations such as reduced speeds, community warning systems, and accountability mechanisms for drivers and security officers involved in fatal crashes.
Legal experts note that most countries impose clear limits on the use of force and speed during VIP movements, balancing security with civilian protection. But in this case, citizens argue the absence of oversight has created a culture of impunity.
As pressure mounts, calls are increasing for parliament to open an inquiry into the pattern of convoy-related deaths. Families of victims say they will not stop seeking justice.
“We want safety, not silence,” said a relative of one victim. “A president’s life is important—but so are ours.”
Is this an ordeal?
Or
Is this a sacrifice?
