FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PUL and CDO Empower Journalists and Media Practitioners in Sinoe County

(8 October 2025): The Press Union of Liberia (PUL) is urging journalists and media practitioners throughout the nation to focus on strengthening their skills in specialized areas to ensure high-quality and comprehensive reporting across various sectors of Liberia.

During the opening of a five-day training session for local journalists and media professionals in Sinoe County, PUL President Julius Kanubah emphasized the importance of public interest journalism, particularly in critical domains such as sustainable natural resource management.

He expressed concern that many specialized and significant issues remain inadequately reported due to the media's predominant focus on political coverage and personalities, rather than substantive subject matter.

Organized by the CERATH Development Organization, the training initiative is being implemented in partnership with the PUL, and forms part of the Liberia Fisheries Governance Project (LFGP), which the European Union funds.

Mr. Derek Adabie, Project Manager of CERATH Development Organization, highlighted the training's objectives: to enhance the capacities of local media institutions and journalists in Sinoe County, enabling them to produce ethical, timely, and accurate reports on fisheries governance as well as the rights and livelihoods of fisherfolk.

Additionally, the training aims to enhance the advocacy skills of media professionals, promoting inclusive participation in fisheries governance and decision-making processes – particularly for women, young people, and marginalized groups.

About 11 journalists from key local media outlets, including Voice of Sinoe, Liberty Broadcasting Service (LBS), and Radio Butaw, are participating in this vital training.

Sinoe County, characterized by its coastal communities, hosts around 24 fishing communities, making the enhancement of media reporting in this sector particularly critical.

This initiative underscores the PUL's commitment to fostering a robust and informed media landscape that addresses the diverse and essential issues facing Liberia today.

Signed:

Julius Kanubah
President

Just In:

The President of the Republic of Liberia H.E. Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., has by Proclamation declared Thursday, October 9, 2025, as β€œWorld Post Day” and is to be observed throughout the Republic as a working Holiday.

The Proclamation calls on Ministries and Agencies of Government as well as National and International Organizations concerned to join and cooperate with the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications in executing appropriate programs to make the observance of the day meaningful.

The Proclamation is in consonance with the Universal Postal Union (UPU), which was founded in 1874 for the purpose of forming a single Postal Territory of countries for the reciprocal exchange of letters and postal items, to secure the organization and improve Postal Services worldwide.

This year’s celebration will take place under the theme: β€œ FOR PEOPLE: LOCAL SERVICE. GLOBAL REACH.”

The release stated that the Government of the Republic of Liberia, being a member of the Universal Postal Union, is duty bound to support and uphold all rules and procedures laid down by this World Body.

The Presidential Proclamation stressed that the postal rules and procedures are the foundation of postal strategy, which places the customer’s expectation first, and it is the stratagem of the Universal Postal Union’s Plan of Action for governments, Postal Administrations, and the UPU bodies.

The Proclamation then recalled that in keeping with the global mission of the Universal Postal Union, postal customers in every country around the world are to be treated with equal courtesy, respect with rules and procedures provided to make it easier for national and international customers and users of the Postal Services.

The Proclamation disclosed that the postal customers in countries around the world are provided greater choices in the types of postal products and services they need.

The Proclamation says in an effort to support the action of the Universal Postal Union in improving services to customers, the Ministry Post and Telecommunication, the agency of government charged with the responsibility of regulating postal services in Liberia, will join member countries of the Universal Postal Union to celebrate this year’s World Post Day.

The Proclamation further recounted that the Universal Postal Union has also adopted a Customer Service Chapter which embodied the basic business concept of making customer come first at all times, and has called on service providers of Postal Services worldwide to provide high quality, secured and reliable Postal Services and respond professionally and promptly to customers inquiries and needs, thus ensuring that the Universal Postal Services lead to economic benefits to both the users and the service providers.

PAYNESU Storms UL Fendell Campus Amid Dollar Rally β€” Declares LRD 17,370 Raised from Outreach

In a show of growing momentum, the Paynesville Students Union of Liberia-PAYNESU, stormed the University of Liberia’s Fendell Campus as part of its ongoing Dollar Rally campaign. The campus visit was marked not just by vibrant mobilization, but by a clear demonstration of financial strength.

PAYNESU leadership proudly announced that the outreach generated a total of 17,370 Liberian Dollars (LRD) β€” a figure that underscores the movement's expanding grassroots support and fundraising capacity.

β€œThis is not just about rhetoric,” said the President. but rather β€œIt’s about resources, results, and a real vision for student representation.” Through a press briefing.

With each stop of the rally, PAYNESU continues to translate solidarity into actual funding, reinforcing its credibility and operational reach. The Fendell turnout β€” both in energy and donations β€” signals that the movement is gaining serious traction ahead of any upcoming student political developments.

By putting real figures on the table, PAYNESU sends a clear message β€” this is not symbolic activism: it is well‑funded, well‑organized, and deeply committed to achieving the interest of the less-priviliged children in the bailiwick of Paynesville.

In the midst of financial constraints, the Students willfully contributed to this genuine cause. Their actions symbolizes a passion for societal transformation and educational upliftment. We want to appreciate the good will of those students that invested their little resources to help send atleast 50 less-priviliged children to school. Let us again re-emphasized unwaveringly that accountability is a gigantic pillar of this initiative!

In the interest of the students, the rally continues!

Long Live PAYNESU!
