LIBERIA vs MALI — POST-MATCH ANALYSIS
Another defeat for Liberia’s Lone Stars, leaving us at the bottom of Group K in the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.
Liberia started with the familiar 3-5-2, staying compact and relying on counterattacks. For most of the game, the defensive structure worked, but we lacked creativity and enough attacking threat.
Mali eventually punished us in the 79th minute after a costly turnover. Sampson Dweh had a difficult outing, with misplaced passes and turnovers putting additional pressure on the defense.
It was a game of very few clear chances. Mali created their opportunity and took it. Liberia had theirs through Peter Wilson but failed to capitalize.
Edward Ledlum, Solomon Tweh, Ashley Williams, Sylvanus Nimely and Emmanuel Fully stood out for their commitment and work rate.
Oscar Dorley was not poor, but he was below the level we know he can produce. As captain, Liberia needs more influence from him when the team is under pressure.
Mo Sangare and Johan Kenneh were average, while Ayoubah Kosiah and Sampson Dweh had limited impact.
The biggest concern came after conceding. We lacked the intensity, energy, creativity and urgency needed to change the game.
The technical team also needed to react quicker. The substitutions did not provide the change in tempo or creativity required.
This is not the end of the road. But the players and technical team must rewatch the last five matches, identify the recurring problems and work together to fix them.
The badge must come before the individual.
We need accountability, intensity, creativity and tactical flexibility.
The narrative can still change.
The Team rating is 5/10
