The Economic Community of West African States has elected Julius Maada Bio, President of Sierra Leone, as the new Chair of the Authority of Heads of State and Government.
The decision was reached during the 67th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority, held in Abuja, Federal Republic of Nigeria.
President Bio assumes leadership of the regional bloc at a pivotal time, as West African nations collectively address challenges related to peace and security, democratic governance, economic integration, and climate resilience.
In response to this regional milestone, President Joseph Boakai has extended warm congratulations to President Bio on his election.
In a formal message, President Boakai described the selection of his Sierra Leonean counterpart as a testament to his steadfast leadership, dedication to democratic governance, and commitment to the collective progress of the West African sub-region.β
