B**g County Resident Criticizes Leaders Over Fire Outbreak in Gbarnga

Madam Quiminee Orpah, a daughter of B**g County and resident of Electoral District #2, has expressed serious disappointment in the county’s leadership following a recent fire outbreak in Gbarnga.
She accused local leaders of prioritizing personal benefits over the safety and wellbeing of citizens.
In a statement posted on her official page, Madam Orpah alleged that leaders in the county have abandoned the interests of the people and are instead focusing on their own gains. According to her, the recent incident has exposed the lack of preparedness and inadequate safety measures in the county.
“Instead of purchasing fire instruments that will help protect lives and property, our leaders are allocating 30,000 United States dollars just to purchase furniture for their bedrooms,” she wrote on her page. She further hinted that she would soon address what she described as “security matters in the County.”
Her comments follow a major fire incident that occurred on the evening of Monday, March 9, 2026, along the Gbarnga Broad Street. The fire reportedly gutted the Up Step and Pauma Store buildings, causing significant damage and leaving many residents shocked and concerned about the safety of businesses and properties in the area.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire started around 7:00 p.m. and lasted for nearly two to three hours. Sources say no personnel from the fire service were present during the incident, which allowed the flames to spread and eventually destroy the buildings.
The situation has sparked frustration among residents, with many blaming county authorities for failing to provide essential emergency services. B**g County, despite being centrally located in Liberia, currently lacks a functioning fire truck, a situation that several citizens have described as alarming.
