Out of the 242 souls aboard Air India Flight AI171, only one — British national Vishwash Kumar Ramesh — has miraculously survived the devastating crash near Ahmedabad.

He was found conscious in seat 11A and is currently being treated for multiple injuries. Authorities say the Boeing 787 Dreamliner went down just 30 seconds after takeoff, crashing into a medical college campus and claiming over 200 lives.

🕊️ Our thoughts are with the victims and their families.

BREAKING: News

Today, Liberia shines on the global stage! 🇱🇷🌍
We have proudly secured a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council — a powerful testament to our nation’s unwavering commitment to peace, diplomacy, and international cooperation.

With the full backing of the African Union and strong regional support, Liberia is returning to the Security Council for the first time since 1961. This historic achievement reaffirms our nation’s role as a champion of global stability and a voice for Africa on the world stage.

Let us celebrate the tireless efforts of the Government of Liberia and all national stakeholders whose vision, leadership, and dedication made this possible.

Congratulations, Liberia!
The world is watching — and we are ready to lead. 🌐🇱🇷

Guinea's junta has cancelled over 50 mining permits for gold, bauxite, diamonds, and graphite. The decision comes as Mamady Doumbouya, the junta leader, is seeking greater control over the sector since coming to power in a September 2021 coup. The decree also ordered permits to be withdrawn from companies that do not comply with the country's mining code. No reason has been offered for the decision. Foreign companies have until the end of May to submit proposals for building refineries to ensure local processing of the mineral bauxite. Guinea is one of the world's poorest countries despite having plenty of natural resources.

FORMER PRESIDENT OF MAURITANIA SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS IN PRISON OVER CORRUPTION

Mauritanian appeals court on Wednesday sentenced former President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz to 15 years in prison and imposed a $3 million fine, escalating a previous five-year sentence handed down in 2023 for corruption charges.

Aziz, a former military general who rose to power through two coups before serving as president from 2009 to 2019, was found guilty of money laundering and illicit self-enrichment.

Investigators say he amassed over $70 million in assets during his decade in office. He has remained in custody since his initial conviction last year.

The trial has drawn international attention as a rare example of an African head of state being held accountable for corruption while in office. Aziz’s legal team has dismissed the charges as politically motivated, alleging they stem from a falling-out with his successor, President Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RESIGNATION OF THE SPEAKER

May 11, 2025.

Speaker J. Fonati Koffa informed the Rule of Law Caucus today that he will be stepping down as Speaker of the 55th National Legislature effective 12 noon on May 12, 2025. We as a caucus endorse this decision with deep sadness for the following reasons:

1) The continuous defiance of the Rule of Law by the Executive despite one Supreme Court ruling and its reaffirmation show that we are confronted by a much more alarming constitutional dilemma then the Office of the Speaker.

2) The loss of significant number of members willing to sit under the Speaker’s gavel makes his effectiveness less tenable for the incoming floor fight.

3) The need to reconstitute the house through elections in accordance with Article 49 so as to return the house to constitutional order in the shortest possible time.
It is our pleasing duty to have served alongside Speaker Koffa and under his gavel and welcome him on the floor as a member of our caucus.
