According to history, the settlement and founding of Liberia in the early 1800s was motivated by the domestic politics of slavery. In 1816, a group of white Americans founded the American Colonization Society (ACS) to deal with the ‘problem’ of the growing number of freed blacks in the United States. The scheme was birthed by some racist segregationists to have these free blacks deported and resettled in Africa. The result is the so-called founding of Liberia, becoming the second black republic in the world next in line to Haiti.

Atty. Thomas, Others, Rebuke Public Exam Fear From 12 - Graders
Liberia - As 12-graders nationwide, are Writing the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), Atty. Michael Thomas, WAEC's boss, and others, have rebuked them for not giving 'flexibility fee' to proctors as a means to get answers during the test administration, a situation that intimidates the students.
Friday, May 20, 2022
The program, which built the confidence of the students for this year's exam, brought together 20 high schools in Paynesville.
"This is the very first of its kind to have an information session for 12-graders in Paynesville city and Liberia at large," Lawrence Dayougar, the head of the Association of Dream Builders International, said. "This platform gives our 12- graders the opportunity to have a conversation with the head of WACE Liberia, Hon. Deal G. Gbotoe".
The theme of the program, "Taken away the fear", was organized by the Association of Dream Builders International, Concerned Youth for Progress, Paynesville City Cooperation, and WAEC Liberia.
Its sponsors, Hon. Michael Thomas, Liberia Business Association, in separate remarks told the public test candidates to study, do away with phobia and do independent work - which will serve as a remedy to get rid of fear during the exam.
Schools that participated in the program included Effort Baptist School, Christian Bible Faith, Action Faith Institute, William Bean Institute, Brighter Day, Nathan E. Gibson, and so on.
Encouraging the student populace at Paynesville Town Hall during the occasion, Thomas said, "l am talking about your graduation celebrations now and not the exam - because l know you will make it".
Atty. Thomas, who is Montserrado County District number 4 representative-hopeful, mesmerized the excited students, saying "nothing strange will come in your test as long as you attended all classes, took notes, and studied. You will come across some of the things you did in high school".
He told them not to panic, pledging his support to their graduation celebrations and urging them to take advantage of his vocational school in the district before their matriculation to universities.
The WASSCE is a public standard test in West Africa that qualifies to graduate 12-graders who passed it to matriculate to any college or university of their choice. But since its introduction in Liberia, 12-graders making high marks constantly have been sporadic, a situation that questions the Education Ministry and WACE's offices here.
"One of the fears of 12- graders failing the WASSCE exam is 'flexibility fee," Goto said. "No student should pay flexibility fee to any proctors. Anyone who will ask or threaten you for 'flexibility fee', inform us!".
Flexibility fee is WASSCE candidates' wilful financial assistance to proctors for answers or freedom to interact with one another during the administration of the exam. This unlawful action is bespoken here; therefore, it is allegedly carried out by schools' administrations and 12-graders themselves, making them not to study, and accepting every answer the proctors give them without counter-checking.
"Because you want answers, you write whatsoever they give you. You can't verify it as 12-graders but assume it a hundred percent correct," WAEC's boss said, berating the candidates for academic fraud.
The timetable for Nigerian candidates and candidates from Ghana, Sierra Leone, Gambia, and Liberia for the exam is scheduled from Monday 9th May 2022 and will end on Tuesday, 28th June 2022, according to The Iberia WAEC website.
The West African Examinations Council, was established in 1952 with its headquarters in Accra, Ghana, after the Governments of Ghana (then Gold Coast). Nigeria, Sierra Leone, and The Gambia enacted it in 1951, with Liberia becoming the fifth member of the Council in 1974.

President Weah sent a congratulatory message to his daughter (Martha Teta Weah)
May 3, 2022
"I would like to extend heartfelt congratulations to my daughter Martha M. Weah (TETA) on her graduation from the Galen College of Nursing in Kentucky, the USA with an Associate degree.
Teta has steadfastly pursued her education over the years and it is therefore my hope that this achievement gives her further impetus to aspire for greater heights.
Her graduation has made us all proud but also added to the number of Liberian professionals chasing excellence wherever they may be in the world. In my many dealings with the youths of Liberia, I have always emphasized the need for self-improvement to be prepared for the challenges of an ever-changing world.
Martha and others have heeded that advice. I pray that she continues to embody the motivation and drive for success.
The entire Weah Family, including your parents and siblings, are exceedingly proud of you.
Congratulations once again, Martha. We will always root for you.

President Weah Orders Second Autopsy By Family-Designated Pathologist
Monrovia, Liberia - The President of the Republic of Liberia, His Excellency Dr. George Manneh Weah has directed Justice Minister Frank Musah Dean to avail the remains of the late Princess Cooper for the conduct of a second autopsy.
The decision, he said, is to lend support to the bereaved family, in their quest to bring closure to the circumstances surrounding the death of their loved one along with concerns raised by some citizens with the initial autopsy.
President Weah said the government will fund the conduct of the second autopsy and called on the family to designate a pathologist of their choice, possessing the requisite credentials and qualifications.
In the directive, President Weah urged Minister Dean to ensure that all civil society, political and other interest groups and individuals who have been involved with advocacy in the case to cooperate with the family and send the name of a designated qualified pathologist to the government in the soonest possible time for the conduct of the second autopsy.
The Liberian Chief Executive reiterated his condolences to the bereaved family, saying the death of any Liberian, whether by natural or unnatural causes, is concerning to the government.
The President has however called on the public to respect Liberian professionals. He reminded them that the pathologists who carried out the initial autopsy were trained to international standards by the Government of Liberia with support from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
