Ahead of the start of the district tournament in B**g County, the office of electoral district #1 Lawmaker Hon. Prince Koinah has made available several sporting materials to the four administrative districts in his constituency.

Presenting the sporting materials to heads of the districts teams, Mr. James Yekerson Forkpah, Special Administrative Assistant in the offices of Hon.

Koinah said the donation is intended to unify the districts during the conduct of the County’s district tournament which is expected to kick-off today.

Of the materials donated the four administrative received two sets of jerseys, two sets of football socks and one football each.

The four administrative districts in district #1 include: Tokpabele, Boisen, Kpaai and Kokoyah administrative district’s.

Mr. James Yekerson Forkpah, termed the donation as his Boss’ initial contributions to the district’s football and kickball team; pledging his Boss’ commitment to continuously support the districts team at every stages of the tournament.

James then placed the total cost of the materials at a little over Five Hundred Sixty United States Dollars ($US560.00).

Meanwhile, taking hold of the materials the representatives of the separate administrative district teams James KoKo and Okue Nagbe extended commendations to Hon. Prince Koinah; terming his gesture as timely.

They however, pledged to use the materials donated for the purpose intended; with a vowed to clinch the County’s 2024 district tournament.

The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Grand Kru County Health Team, has initiated a Free Eye Surgery Program in Grand Kru County, with support from the Sight Saver and other partners.

Semitta Dukuly, Grand Kru County Eye Health Supervisor said , the free eye surgical exercise aims to provide essential eye care services to residents, particularly those suffering from cataracts and other vision-related issues.

In an exclusive interview with the Grand Kru County Eye Health Supervisor, she emphasized that the initiative reflects the government's commitment to improving health outcomes and ensuring that communities have access to necessary medical interventions.

In a significant move to reduce the high rates of teenage pregnancy in B**g County, the National Coalition of Civil Society Organizations of Liberia has extended its ‘Community-Led Advocacy for Family Planning and Financing in Liberia project to Gbarnga.

The twelve month initiative is being funded by the United Nations.

Speaking at the project Inception workshop with stakeholders in Gbarnga, the Executive Director of the organization, Benjamin Tarnue said they conducted a survey and observed that teenage pregnancy is on the increase in B**g, Bomi, and Grand Bassa Counties.

He stated that as part of addressing the situation, NACCSOL has formulated a twelve month project targeting the three counties.

Mr. Tarnue said the project seeks curtail increment in teenage pregnancy among young females by encouraging the intake of family planning.

He noted that this contraceptive method prevents untimely pregnancy and allows girls choose when and by whom to have a child.

According to him, the twelve months project will be implemented through community engagements and awareness on the consumption of family planning in the hotspot counties.

He lamented that reduction in the rate of teenage pregnancy contributes to economic growth among females.

Responding to calls from citizens of the County about the rehabilitation of the Kokoyah Road, the office of electoral district #1 says it has negotiated with the management of Turkish Mining Company MNG Gold to begin the rehabilitation of major routes across the District.

The rehabilitation work which commenced recently according to the office staffer of district #1 lawmaker is part of the lawmaker’s oversight responsibility that aims to provide free flow of transport for citizens and motorists plying the route.

Speaking in an interview on Monday, the political affairs officer in the offices of district #1 lawmaker Prince Koniah, Franklin Kermue narrated that the process is meant to make the road passable to enable citizens of the district have access to better transportation and transfering their locally produce commodities to the nearby markets.

According to Kermue, his Boss Representive Prince Koniah is currently aware of the numerous challenges the bad road network present and as such, the district lawmaker has begun negotiations with government and other relevant authorities for the rehabilitation of the road during the upcoming dry season.

Kermue also frown at the past leadership of the district for doing little or nothing to addressing the road condition despite district #1 being a major gold deposit in B**g County and also transit point for the exportation of Acelemital iron ore to Grand Bassa County.

September 9, 2024___Grand Kru County Youth and Sports Coordinator, Nicholas Wuo is calling on the government of Liberia to prioritize the interests of At-Risk Youths, seeks government and partners intervention into programs that will affect and have impact on young people.

Nicholas Wuo believes that these vulnerable young individuals should be given more attention and support to uplift their lives and provide them with better opportunities.

As part of effort to demonstrate his commitment to this cause, the Grand Kru Youth and Sports Coordinator has announced plans to embark on an assessment tour to the Trembo Vocational and Technical Institution, as well as the Forpoh Vocational and Technical Institution shortly in the county, aims to engage with relevant authorities to gain a better understanding of their challenges, needs, and aspirations.

According to him, these institutions play a crucial role in providing vocational and technical skills training to at-risk youths in the county.

Speaking when he spoke with team of Journalists in the county, Wuo underscores the need to identify areas where the government and other stakeholders can intervene to improve the quality of education and enhance the overall welfare of these vulnerable youths.

The Grand Kru County Youth and Sports Coordinator assessment tour aims to provide concrete data and evidence that can be used to advocate for increased government investment in vocational and technical education for at-risk youths.

He believes that empowering these individuals with relevant skills will not only address their immediate needs but also contribute to the economic development of the county and the country as a whole.

Nicholas Wuo emphasized the need for a multi-stakeholder approach, including the involvement of the government, private sector, non-governmental organizations, and local communities, to create a holistic environment that nurtures and supports at-risk youths.

According to him, as the Youth and Sports Coordinator for Grand Kru County, the Ministry is dedicated to promoting youth development, improving educational opportunities, and ensuring the well-being of at-risk youths.

A son of Kokoyah Statutory District has lauded Senator Prince Kermue Moye for recommending qualified sons and daughters of B**g county to top positions in the Boakai-Koung Government.

According to Belthan Tano, Senator Moye has been very instrumental in ensuring that citizens of the county are elevated to attract developments to the county.

B**g county has secured about eleven top positions including Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Assistant Minister, and other top government positions in the Unity party government.

In addition to these efforts, Tano continued that senator Moye has contributed immensely to human resource capacity building of youth of the county through local and international scholarships and tuition aids, since his ascendency to the National Legislature.

Moye served as national campign manager for the by then opposition Unity Party during the 2023 general elections in Liberia and he is the current Chairman of the B**g County Legislative Cacus. The B**g County Senator also chairs the committee on Ways, Means and Finance and Budget at the Liberian Senate

September 5, 2024---Golden Veroleum Liberia (GVL), an oil palm plantation company operating in Liberia, has been charged with Contempt of Court in Grand Kru County.

This followed a complained by the Plant Protection Division (PPD) Security Department headed by their head Jacob Sieh and all, to the office of the Grand Kru County Labor Commissioner for owning them three hundred and eighteen thousand Liberian dollars for benefits which includes; overtime, holidays, launch hours among others.

According to the charged sheet, on the 19th of August 2024 through its Counsel prayed for the issuance of a Writ of Summon for the enforcement of the ruling of the Labor Commissioner of Grand Kru County for Unfair Labor practices of GVL management to file its answer as required by law.

However, in the wisdom of the Grand Kru County Dent Court, His Honor Tweh Wesseh issued the Writ of Summon Ordered, a conference with the intention of narrowing the issues that the lawyer and the petitioners appear before the Court, hoping that said conference will get started by 10am as mentioned in the Writ of Summon but the management of GVL appeared at the court by 12:30pm.

The Grand Kru County Debt Court through the Resident Judge His Honor, Tweh Wesseh fined management of Golden Veroleum Liberia in the county one hundred and fifty United States dollars for various offenses including Gross Disrespect, Disobedience, and late appearance in Court from their alleged failure to comply with court procedures and demonstrate respect towards the judicial system.

These charges highlight an ongoing dispute between GVL and the Plant Protection Division (PPD) Security Department which violates the rights of their workers in the area, and this latest contempt of the Grand Kru County Debt Court charge adds to the legal troubles faced by the management of GVL in Grand Kru County.

The company's operations have been marred by numerous allegations of human rights abuses, environmental degradation, and unethical business practices with affected communities including the workers Union's of GVL in the county.

However , the fine imposed by the court serves as a reminder to GVL that they must adhere to the rule of law and demonstrate respect for the legal processes in the country, as it remains to be seen how the management of GVL will respond to these charges and whether they will take steps to improve their relationship with local communities and the judicial system in Liberia.

A 33-year-old Patricia Brooks has reportedly found lying dead between the Dweken and Philadelphia high Way in Grand Kru County.

According to police in the area, on Saturday August 31, 2024, an unknown person was seeing lying unconscious between the Dweken Community and Philadelphia high way.

Predicating upon said information, a team of the Liberia National Police Grand Kru Detachment officers headed by SUPT. Rufus Wesseh, and INSPT. DAPO KANWEAH, and two community watch forum personal JACOB BOYE NYENSEAH and KLAY B NIMELY proceeded at the scene to authenticate said sad information, indicating that upon the team of LNP investigators arrival at the scene, they meet with the town authority and with the victim father in person of NYANPLU BROOKS who told them that the victim PATRICIA BROOKS, 33yrs, Grebo by tribe, Liberian and a residence of Tubuville, Tarlue Administrative District, Buah Statutory District, was mentally ill.

Police in the County investigation quotes that the victim left the house since August 29, 2024 which was on Thursday and the family was in search of her and notified the local authority concerning victim their daughter.

The victim father further told police investigation that on Saturday August 31, 2024, he received a phone called from Dweken that his missing daughter lifeless body was seen lying down on the Dweken Philadelphia high way and this is how they went on the scene and called the LNP.

According to Police investigation, upon arrival at the scene, it was established that the victim was lying in an horizontal position with face facing the sky, and the medical term examined the body and pronounced that victim was dead and immediately the fifteen men jury was constituted to examined victim body and they reported that there was no foul played into the victim death.

Accordingly, she died at the result of her illness and immediately after their report, the family members of the victim through the father and brothers received the body from the LNP with a written documents requesting the LNP to turned over the body for a proper burial.

Meanwhile, there is no arrest has been made but police authority through it Commander, Clement Barlatt assured citizens and the the deceased family for justice, as investigation continue to find the route cause of the death of the late Patricia Brooks.

The Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency Grand Kru Detachment, under the leadership of Commander Michael Jipply, strongly denies the allegations of harassing peaceful citizens in the county.

The LDEA Grand Kru Detachment Commander statement comes after reports of his officers unlawfully harassed on peaceful citizens who believed to be miners, reportedly took away their unscaled gold including some money.

Reacting to the allegations, the LDEA Commander Jipply asserts that the primary goal of the Detachment is to combat drug-related crimes and ensure the safety and well-being of the citizens of Grand Kru, indicated that the agency operates with the highest level of professionalism and adheres to strict guidelines and codes of conduct in carrying out its duties.

Jipply is quoted as saying; the Detachment recognizes the importance of protecting the rights and dignity of all individuals and is committed to upholding the law and conducting its operations within the confines of the Constitution of Liberia.

"Any allegation of harassment or abuse of power against its personnel is taken seriously and thoroughly investigated" he commented.

A 33-year-old This is victim Patricia Brooks has reportedly found lying dead between the Dweken and Philadelphia high Way in Grand Kru County.

Accordingly, the victim is a grebo by tribe and a Liberian who was a resident of Tubuville Community left her home on the 29 day of August 2024 and was same lying dead alone the road.

August 26, 2024____$The Human Resource Officer of the Grand Kru County Education system Gabriel Joboe, the principal of Barclayville Central High School, Francis Wesseh, and the proprietor of the Zion Assembly of God Mission School System, Elijah Willie Toe, have made an urgent appeal, an SOS call, to all Liberians to come together and work collectively towards the common goal of maintaining peace in the country.
