LNP sets Saturday to execute CDC Eviction, urges Partisans to remain Law Abiding:

For Immediate Release

Liberia National Police Urges Calm and Respect for Rule of Law

(Monrovia, Liberia – August 22, 2025) At this critical moment in our nation’s democratic journey, the Liberia National Police (LNP) reaffirms its neutrality and commitment to upholding the rule of law.

The Sixth Judicial Circuit Court of Liberia has issued a writ of possession ordering the eviction of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) from its headquarters. The LNP has been mandated to assist in executing this lawful order on Saturday, August 23, 2025.

As a professional institution, our role is constitutional, to preserve peace, protect lives, and ensure that the decisions of our courts are carried out without fear or favor.

We call on the CDC, as one of Liberia’s leading political institutions, to show statesmanship by respecting the authority of the courts. Compliance with the law is not weakness, but strength, a demonstration of leadership and commitment to our democracy.

We also urge all partisans and supporters to remain peaceful and law-abiding. Liberia has come too far to allow political disagreements to undermine the hard-won peace we all share.

The LNP reminds all citizens that peace is our collective responsibility. Upholding the rule of law honors the sacrifices of the past and secures the future for generations to come.

Signed:
The Liberia National Police

A former Commerce Minister Amin Modad writes..SPORTS BETTING/GAMBLING

The next issue that must be addressed and ultimately banned is Sports Betting/Gambling, particularly in such an impoverished society as ours. This has become a pervasive epidemic that is quietly yet devastatingly destroying our society. It is tearing apart families, destroying lives, and jeopardizing the future of our youth. Preying on poverty, it offers false hope to those striving for a better life, only to leave them in deeper despair. As a consequence, a significant portion of our population experiences depression and anxiety, which in turn fuels addiction, crime, and drug abuse. WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS?

Do you agree that the government should ban Aviator from all betting companies in Liberia??

Vice President Koung Meets with U.S. Congressional Delegation

Monrovia, Liberia – August 20, 2025: Vice President of the Republic of Liberia, Hon. Jeremiah Kpan Koung, on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, held a bilateral meeting with a United States Congressional Delegation at his Capitol Building office.

The high-level delegation was led by Senator Jack Reed and Representative Gabriel Amo, and accompanied by the U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires, Mr. Joseph E. Zadrozny.

Discussions focused on strengthening Liberia–U.S. relations, the potential application of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact grant, and the impact of reductions in United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funding.

The delegation inquired about how the Liberian government is responding to USAID funding cuts, particularly in critical sectors such as health and education.

In response, Vice President Koung explained that the government has undertaken significant budgetary realignments to safeguard essential programs that were previously supported by USAID.

These include HIV/AIDS interventions through GAVI, school feeding initiatives, and scholarship opportunities for Liberian students.

“Despite the challenges posed by the reduction in USAID support, the government remains committed to ensuring that vital health and education services are sustained. We have prioritized spending cuts in other areas in order to allocate resources to programs that directly affect the lives of our people,” the Vice President said.

Vice President Koung further underscored that, if awarded, the MCC Compact would play a pivotal role in addressing Liberia’s pressing developmental needs in health, education, infrastructure, and energy.

Senator Reed reaffirmed the delegation’s purpose, noting that their visit was aimed at better understanding the challenges Liberia faces, as well as the opportunities for continued partnership between the two countries.

The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere and concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to strengthening the long-standing ties between Liberia and the United States.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Richard Nagbe Koon, on Wednesday, 20 August received in audience the Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Liberia, Mr. Christian Mukosa, during a courtesy visit at the Capitol Building.

The discussions centered on several international protocols and treaties to which Liberia is a signatory, but which require domestication through legislative action.

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), a department of the United Nations Secretariat, works to promote and protect human rights guaranteed under international law and enshrined in the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Speaker Koon welcomed Mr. Mukosa and his delegation and assured them that the Legislature remains committed to upholding Liberia’s international obligations. He pledged to convey the UN representative’s message to his colleagues for consideration and action upon the Legislature’s return from its annual break.

In addition, Speaker Koon highlighted the importance of women’s participation in politics. He pointed specifically to the pending proposal before the Legislature seeking to allocate additional seats for women ahead of the 2029 General and Presidential Elections, underscoring it as a crucial step in strengthening inclusiveness and democracy in Liberia.
