NEWS UPDATE: Ministry of Local Government Launches Capacity-Building Training for Staff!

MONROVIA, LIBERIA — The Ministry of Local Government-Republic of Liberia has commenced a two-day capacity-building training for its staff with support from UN Women Liberia through the UN Peacebuilding Fund.

The September 2–3 training being held at the JNB Decentralization Hall in Monrovia is focused on strengthening institutional capacity in planning and reporting, gender mainstreaming, social inclusion, departmental coordination and effective development-program implementation.

Deputy Minister for Administration Hon. Samuel F. Brown who opened the training, urged participants to maximize the opportunity and apply the knowledge gained to improve their professional performance and the Ministry’s overall effectiveness.

Meanwhile, Acting Deputy Minister for Research, Policy and Planning Hon. D. Emmanuel Wheinyue disclosed that 43 staff members from the Department of Research, Policy and Planning, Gender Unit and other departments and sections are participating.

The training brings together facilitators from key government institutions including the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning , Ministry Of Gender, Children And Social Protection-Liberia and Liberia Institute of Statistics and Geo-Information Services alongside UN Women and the UN Peacebuilding Fund.

The initiative forms part of a broader partnership supporting Liberia’s decentralization agenda including the establishment of 15 County Development Planning Units across all 15 counties and capacity-building programs for county administrations, service centers, councils, women, youth and other stakeholders.

The Ministry says the training is expected to strengthen coordination, improve planning and reporting systems and enhance the integration of gender and social inclusion into government development programs.

NEWS UPDATE: President Boakai Reportedly Replaces Justice Minister Tweh & Solicitor General Fayiah!

MONROVIA — President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has reportedly initiated a major shake-up within his administration with changes at the Ministry of Justice.

Justice Minister and Attorney General Cllr. N. Oswald Tweh has reportedly been replaced by Cllr. Betty Lamie Blamo.

The report further indicates that Solicitor General Augustine B. Fayiah has also reportedly been replaced with Cllr. Abraham Sillah named as his reported successor.

The changes may not end there as additional government officials are reportedly expected to be affected by the ongoing restructuring.
