Public Service Announcement

(Monrovia, Liberia – October 16, 2025)

The Liberia National Police (LNP) informs the general public that temporary traffic diversions will be in effect on Saturday, October 18, 2025, to facilitate the groundbreaking ceremony for the Headquarters of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC).

To ensure public safety and smooth vehicular movement, the following traffic measures will be implemented:
1. All vehicles traveling from Central Monrovia will be diverted through the Congo Town back road.
2. Vehicles traveling from Paynesville toward Central Monrovia will proceed as usual.

These measures will remain in effect from 8:00 a.m. until evening hours.
Operators of motorbikes and auto-rickshaws, also known as (keh-keh), are reminded that restrictions in designated zones remain strictly enforced.

The LNP appreciates the public’s cooperation and understanding as these temporary adjustments are necessary to ensure the safety of all road users and the orderly conduct of the ceremony.
We regret any inconvenience this may cause and assure the public that normal traffic flow will resume immediately after the event.

The Liberia National Police remains committed to professionalism, public service, and the maintenance of peace and order across the country.

This announcement is signed by The Liberia National Police.

Rep. Taa Wongbe writes:

‼️Sometimes, silence feels like complicity‼️I have resisted speaking on certain issues over the last few months, but this one left me deeply concerned; I honestly don’t even know how to describe how I feel. There are moments when I am embarrassed to be in that House because the way we proceed on some matters shows how disconnected we can be from the real struggles of our people.

While we should be pushing to prioritize funds in the national budget for cancer treatment machines like the Linear Accelerator (LINAC); equipment that costs less than a million dollars and could save countless lives, others are proposing to spend over US$1 million on vehicles for our Chiefs of Office Staff.

How do we justify that? At a time when hospitals lack basic tools, our roads still bad, and young people can’t find jobs? Why not also put money in the budget to build a tech and entrepreneurship center to support the many innovative Liberians creating real solutions?

We must do better mehn! And, we will do better. As we approach the new budget cycle, we must work together to ensure that what we pass truly reflects the needs and priorities of our people.

Yeah bah…sometimes, we can make the public distrust us mehn…

LBS Staff Raise Concerns Over Presence of Blue Star Lotto, a gambling Company, Operations at the System’s compound (Theater)..

Monrovia, Liberia – October 15, 2025
Some employees of the Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS) have expressed concern over what they describe as the unauthorized establishment of a gambling center within the institution’s premises.

According to staff who spoke to DN News Liberia on condition of anonymity, they were surprised to see workers offloading equipment from a container into the LBS Theater without prior notice to senior management or line supervisors.

It was later discovered, they said, that the equipment belonged to Blue Star Lotto, a betting company recently contracted by the National Lottery Authority (NLA) to operate the national 5/90 lotto game.

When contacted, LBS Director General Eugene L. Fahngon confirmed the presence of Blue Star Lotto equipment at the facility, explaining that the company is using the System’s theater for operational purposes.

However, Mr. Fahngon clarified that no formal agreement has yet been reached between LBS and the company. He said Blue Star Lotto initially requested LBS Television to handle live broadcasts of its daily draws for 15mins — a proposal he deemed too costly. Instead, he suggested that the company relocate its lotto machine to the LBS theater under a potential revenue-sharing partnership that could benefit the institution.

Mr. Fahngon expressed disappointment over the manner in which concerns were raised, stating that employees should have approached his office for clarification before drawing conclusions.

Blue Star Lotto, operated by Blue Star High Tech Liberia Limited, was recently authorized by the NLA to manage the 5/90 lotto game, with its main draw room reportedly located at the LBS compound in Paynesville.

Update:

The Monrovia City Court has confirmed the cancellation of its October 14, 2025, writ of arrest issued against the Chairman of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) over a land dispute in Congo Town.

The court’s decision followed the withdrawal of the legal complaint by the property owner.

Also, it was reported that the individual claiming ownership of the parcel of land was said to be represented by legal practitioner Cllr. Cyril Jones. However, in a separate clarification, Cllr. Jones of the Jones & Jones Law Firm denied ever filing or representing any client before the Monrovia City Court in connection with the matter.

We also reached out to Cllr. Jones, who reaffirmed that he has had no involvement whatsoever in the case.

As reported by Nyantee Genero Samuel Togba and Peter Toby.
