“We Are Not Stopping”: President Boakai Charges Security Forces to Intensify Fight Against Drugs

Executive Mansion, Monrovia:— President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., has directed officials of Liberia’s national security apparatus to remain focused and resolute in the fight against illicit drugs, urging them not to be intimidated or distracted from confronting drug trafficking, securing the nation’s borders, and protecting Liberia’s national interests.
“We are not stopping. We will continue to fight for this country,” President Boakai declared on Thursday, August 13, 2026, as he addressed the 23rd Cabinet Meeting.
The Cabinet session focused on key national priorities, including strengthening evidence-based governance, expanding social protection, improving the delivery of essential services, and assessing progress under the Government’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development.
President Boakai emphasized that the fight against illicit drugs must be pursued alongside stronger border security, stressing that Liberia’s national response must address the broader security implications associated with drug trafficking.
“It is not just the drug trafficking. Our borders, we have to keep secure,” the President stated.
The Liberian Chief Executive called for enhanced coordination among security institutions and urged officials to exercise professionalism, sound judgment, and integrity in the discharge of their responsibilities.
He cautioned security officials against allowing public criticism or external pressure to interfere with decisions that require professional judgment.
“They should not make you not do what you’re supposed to do because if you didn’t have the knowledge, the expertise, the support, you wouldn’t be where you are,” President Boakai said. “Act with a clear mind with honesty, and ensure that those who go outside the law would face appropriate measures.”
President Boakai acknowledged the complexity of the drug situation but rejected any suggestion that Liberia should retreat from its campaign. He noted that the fight against illicit drugs is essential not only to protecting public safety and the future of Liberia’s young people, but also to safeguarding the country’s international reputation.
President Highlights Government’s Progress
Turning to the overall performance of his Administration, President Boakai pointed to progress being made in several areas, including healthcare, the timely payment of salaries, and infrastructure development.
He commended ministers and civil servants for the sacrifices they continue to make in service to the Liberian people, particularly the personal and family time devoted to carrying out their public responsibilities.
The President also encouraged members of his Cabinet to be more visible at national and public events, noting that the presence of government officials demonstrates institutional support for national programs and achievements.
Road Infrastructure Remains a Priority
On infrastructure, President Boakai highlighted the importance of connecting Liberia’s counties and communities through improved road networks.
He noted that the road toward Côte d’Ivoire is now accessible, while acknowledging the contributions of government institutions involved in financing and implementing road development projects.
The President, however, identified the Roberts International Airport road project as an area requiring particular attention, signaling that the delivery of critical infrastructure projects will remain under close review.
President Boakai concluded by stressing that Liberia’s progress requires collective effort, cooperation, and a shared commitment to national development.
He urged Liberians to continue supporting the country’s development efforts as his Administration remains focused on delivering tangible results and improving the lives of citizens under the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development.
