RiverCess County Administration Condemns Attacks on Superintendent Zahnwea

By: D. Cyrus Fanciah

Cestos City, RiverCess County – The RiverCess County Administration has strongly condemned what it describes as persistent and unwarranted attacks on the character of superintendent Byron W. Zahnwea by certain individuals.

In an official statement issued on Monday October 13, the county administration emphasized that while democracy encourages the expression of diverse views, such expressions must be grounded in truth and carried out with respect for established authorities.

“It is true that in a democratic society, there are contrary views on issues,” the statement noted. “However, such endeavors must be guided by truth and respect for constituted authorities.”

The administration clarified that the work of the county has not come to a standstill, contrary to claims being circulated by some actors. It stressed that development projects and governance initiatives under Superintendent Zahnwea, appointed by President Joseph Nyumah Boakai, remain ongoing and are yielding results.

The statement also highlighted the cohesiveness of the county leadership, stating that the principal deputies of Superintendent Zahnwea have the boldness and integrity to express any internal disagreements within the appropriate channels, rather than engaging in public criticism through proxies.

“If there is anything undermining the discharge of their statutory duties, the deputies are courageous enough to address it within the leadership circle,” the statement added.

The county administration further called on those allegedly behind what it termed a "smear campaign" to raise their personal grievances directly, rather than invoking the names of other local officials in what appears to be a calculated attempt to sow division.

In a broader call to action, the leadership of RiverCess County urged all citizens to prioritize unity and development over division and bitterness. The statement encouraged residents to recognize and support the ongoing development initiatives in the county.

“We admonish the citizens of RiverCess to work together, focus on improving our county, and show appreciation for the ongoing development efforts, rather than being constantly divisive and hostile towards one another,” the statement concluded.

Recently several prominent River Cess citizens including strong supporters of the Ruling Unity Party are calling for the removal of of Superintendent Byron Zahnwea over allegations of bad governance, lack of collaboration with his deputies among others.

Veteran Educator Slams River Cess School System, Describes It as “Dead”

By: D. Cyrus Fanciah

Cestos City, River Cess County ___A veteran educator and civil society advocate in River Cess County, Mr. Charles Harrison Teah Sr., has strongly criticized the River Cess County School System for its alleged failure to address the numerous challenges affecting education in the county, describing it as “a dead system.”

Speaking on RBS Radio on Monday, October 13, Mr. Teah accused the District Education Officers (DEOs) and the County Education Officer (CEO) of destroying the school system. He claimed that the education authorities have done little or nothing to improve the situation, and therefore “deserve no appreciation.”

The veteran educator highlighted several challenges confronting the school system, including the growing number of volunteer teachers, the appointment of unqualified individuals to senior positions, and the sidelining of qualified and competent educators for personal interest.

Mr. Teah also alleged that several government-paid teachers have transferred to other ministries and agencies, yet their salaries remain unaccounted for. He blamed the situation on poor supervision by the DEOs and the CEO.

According to him, some teachers who have died still appear on the payroll, while volunteer teachers continue to go unpaid, leaving some schools with only one teacher—or none at all. He further accused certain education officials of employing their relatives and close associates, while neglecting dedicated workers in the sector.

In response to the allegations, the Resident District Education Officer, Mr. George T.K. Nyanjaine, acknowledged the challenges but said the issue of volunteer teachers has long been under review. He explained that the Ministry of Education had recently conducted a vetting and verification process, and the list of volunteer teachers is currently before the Ministry of Finance for action.

Mr. Nyanjaine also noted that the school system is currently carrying out “direct replacement” for teachers who have passed away or transferred to other ministries.

River Cess Broadcasting Service Manager Backs Education Drive Through Sports Fundraiser

By: D. Cyrus Fanciah

Cestos City, October 10, 2025 — More than ten underprivileged students in River Cess County are set to benefit from a financial assistance initiative spearheaded by the manager of the River Cess Broadcasting Service (RBS), as part of a broader effort to support education through community engagement and sports.

The initiative forms a key highlight of the upcoming birthday celebration of renowned local journalist, Aaron Geezay.

As part of the activities, the River Cess Journalists Association (RIJA) will face off in a friendly football match against the River Cess County Health Team on Sunday, October 19. The much-anticipated match will take place at the RBS Field in Cestos City.

Prior to the main football event, a kickball match is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., setting the stage for an afternoon of entertainment, community spirit, and purposeful giving.

This year’s celebration is being held under the theme: “Helping to Save a Child’s Future.”

The goal is to raise L$30,000, which will go toward covering school expenses for at least 10 students—each requiring an estimated L$3,000 to access basic education, even in public schools. The funds will be raised through the sale of specially printed birthday T-shirts, gate intake from the games, and generous donations from individuals, businesses, and institutions in cash or kind.

The initiative has been warmly welcomed by the local community, with many praising it as a thoughtful and impactful way to celebrate a birthday.
