ITI Youth Demand Zero Tolerance for Drugs

By: D. Cyrus Fanciah

River Cess County _June 30, 2025__The youth of ITI in Beawor Administrative District have intensified their fight against illicit drugs and substance abuse following the death of a 70-year-old man, reportedly caused of consuming narcotic substances.

Speaking to DCN Radio over the weekend, the Chairman of the ITI Youth, James Lammie, said the fight against drugs is a shared responsibility between the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) and the community.

Lammie noted that some community members—especially women—are in the habit of harboring and protecting drug dealers. He stated that the ITI Youth will work closely with the LDEA to identify drug dealers and individuals involved in the use of drug.

The ITI Youth Chairman emphasized the vital role the community plays in the fight against drugs. He also accused some residents of obstructing LDEA officers during the arrest of drug suspects.

For his part, the ITI Youth spokesperson, Emmanuel Gueeglay, raised alarm over the increase in criminal activities in ITI, which he attributed to the rising presence of drugs in the area.

He said people's properties are no longer safe in the hands of drug users. According to Gueeglay, several individuals have died from drug consumption, including a local DJ and the recent death of 70-year-old Wayard.

He called on the LDEA to take tougher actions against drug dealers to help end substance abuse in the area.

Eight individuals have been arrested, charged, and sent to court in connection with the death of old man Wayard.

The suspects face multiple charges, including illegal trafficking of illicit drugs and criminal facilitation to commit murder, among others.

They are currently being held at the Cestos City Central Prison awaiting court trial.

LDEA Burns Over L$4.7Million Worth of Drugs in River Cess.

By: D. Cyrus Fanciah

Cestos City, River Cess County – June 26, 2025 – The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) in River Cess County has destroyed illegal drugs valued at over 4.7million Liberian Dollars during a program commemorating International Drugs Day.

According to LDEA County Commander George Kermukai, the confiscated drugs included 89 grams of he**in, 59 grams of precursors, 50 strips of tramadol, kush, co***ne, and other substances.

Commander Kermukai made the disclosure on Thursday, June 26, during a ceremony held in Cestos City to mark the global observance.

Speaking at the event, River Cess County Attorney Martin Tumo commended the LDEA and the joint security team for their continued efforts in combating illicit drug activities. He urged the agency to intensify public awareness campaigns on the dangers of drug abuse.

“We need to reach the schools, churches, marketplaces, and other public gatherings to educate people and raise awareness about the risks associated with drug use,” Attorney Tumo said.

He stressed that the fight against illicit drugs requires the involvement of all stakeholders, noting that while the LDEA contributes about 30 percent to the effort, the broader community bears the greater responsibility.

Meanwhile, the County Attorney assured the public of the speedy trial of criminal cases. He also pledged close collaboration with the county’s joint security forces to ensure perpetrators are brought to justice.

Attorney Tumo further promised to provide logistical support to enable law enforcement officers to effectively carry out their duties.

River Cess County Receives 20 New Police Officers
By: D. Cyrus Fanciah

June 25, 2025

Cestos City, River Cess County _The newly appointed Commander of the River Cess County Police Detachment, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Elton Gofa, has announced the deployment of 20 additional police officers to the county.

Speaking to DCN Radio on Wednesday, June 25, ACP Gofa described the deployment as a significant milestone since assuming leadership of the county’s police force.

He noted that the increase in manpower is already yielding results, particularly in previously underserved areas such as the Boegeezay and Sand Beach Police Depots, which had long operated without permanently assigned officers.

ACP Gofa said the deployment came after persistent engagement and advocacy efforts directed at the Liberia National Police (LNP) headquarters in Monrovia.

He emphasized that many of the newly assigned officers have already assumed duty, bringing renewed public confidence in police operations across River Cess’s eight administrative districts.

In addition to boosting personnel, the Police Commander disclosed plans to reactivate the Community Watch Forum, raise public safety awareness, and distribute emergency contact numbers. These measures, he said, are intended to promote a more community-driven and responsive policing approach.

Despite the progress, ACP Gofa appealed to the Inspector General of Police and the national government for urgent logistical support, including the provision of a vehicle and motorcycles.
He stressed that adequate mobility is critical for effective and timely responses to security incidents across the county’s vast and sometimes hard-to-reach areas.
