Why do Liberian school going children prioritize politics-a perspective of a patriot, Ma Kou Meapeh Gono

In a shift of events cumulating development in the public sector of county Nimba, Madam Kou Meapeh Gono has endorsed the involvement of technocrats in the motivation of young people who are expected to take up leadership roles in the future.

"...students in high schools are only concerned about politics because the only people they see are senators and representatives. We need technocrats like pilots, engineers and doctors, who would inspire the younger generation instead of only focusing on politics".

She made the statement recently during the groundbreaking ceremony for the rehabilitation of the airstrip in Sanniquellie, Nimba County.

The estimated US$30,000.00 project which is funded by the Samaritan's Purse, is expected to run for about two weeks to be turned over to the Liberia Aviation Authority upon completion.

According to Superintendent Gono, her administration is not only concerned about horizontal and vertical development, but also, the development of the minds of the young generation of leaders.

"We want to inspire our school-going children. When the students saw the pilot from Samaritan's Purse land on our airstrip recently, they were very excited. The pilot (name withheld) was like a celebrity in Sanniquellie that day", Madam Gono intimated.

She said, Liberia has been reduced to political Activism among students and young people because all they see are politicians.

She said, the rehabilitation of the Sanniquellie airstrip will open the corridor for career awareness for students who are still struggling to choose a career path after high school.

"...we need to change the narrative, Liberian children deserve more than political Activism", Madam Gono asserted.

Upon the completion of the Sanniquellie Airstrip rehabilitation project, the Nimba County administration is expected to construct the Arrival and Departure terminals or waiting space as the government of Liberia, through the Liberia Aviation Authority has also promised to do asphalt pavement in Maryland, Grand Gedeh, Lofa and Nimba Counties.

Maryland County, according to the LAA, is considered the hub for commercial flights in Liberia.

Build-up for a “united front in support of Hon. Jackson Suomie Yuo” intensifies

June 2, 2025 Nimba: The euphoria is building up in Nimba County Electoral District 5 as political maneuvering ensues ahead of the upcoming Representative By-Election in the district.

The citizens from all corners of the District are assiduously organizing and strategizing to garner support for the possible replacement of Senator Samuel G. Kogar whose election to the Liberian legislature caused vacancy in the district.

Among the names that are emerging as aspirants in the upcoming political turning point in the history of district 5 is Honorable Jackson Suomie Yuo, a political figure most constituents in the district refer to as a "people-centered leader and a philanthropist".

Like the people of Yao Nyarla, the excitement in Beo Bleemieplay Town recently was profound as about 265 citizens gathered to discuss rallying support for Hon. Jackson Suomie Yuo's eminent candidacy in the upcoming representative by-election for Nimba County's Electoral District #5.

The meeting, attended by citizens from the three towns in Beo Chifedom, was a testament to the growing momentum behind Team Yuo.

During the many deliberations, the citizens intimated that it was time that the people of the district give their highest political seat to someone whose respect for his fellow humans is immeasurable and incomparable.

They argued that unlike other people who are currently pretending to be undertaking development initiatives in the district because of the upcoming political event, Hon. Yuo has stood with the people of the district from the days of the Yuo Foundation that has impacted several sons and daughters of Buu Yao.

Meanwhile, in Nyor Diaplay, about 682 officials and members of the Yuo Foundation from Nyor Chiefdom came together to plan their full involvement in Hon. Jackson Suomie Yuo's political movement.

The meeting, which saw the attendance of supporters from all 14 towns in the Chiefdom, highlighted their prevalent support for Hon. Yuo's political ambition.

Their efforts are a clear reflection of the positive message that Yuo's political movement embodies - one of unity, progress, and positive change for the people of Buu-Yao.,
As it stands, the people of the district are expected to petition the “arrow head” of Team Yuo in the coming days.

The upcoming official petition program, set to take place in Nyor Gbanwea Town, is eagerly anticipated by the citizens as they anxiously await the formal inauguration of Yuo's candidacy when the process is declared open by the National Elections Commission. The petitioning, many believe, will change the political debate in the area.

With his track record of community development, dedication to public service and deep roots in the region, Hon. Jackson Suomie Yuo has emerged as the clear choice for the citizens of the fifth electoral district in Nimba County.

Judging from their enthusiasm, the citizens of the District are ready for change, and they see Hon. Jackson Suomie Yuo as the catalyst for that change they desire, and not people who are purporting themselves as lovers of development in the area.

His vision of a flourishing and prosperous district, where the voices of all citizens are heard and represented, has resonated deeply with the people.

Yao Nyarlay citizens rally support for Team Yuo

Buutuo, May 25, 2025: It is becoming evident that the people of Nimba County Electoral District 5 are determined to promulgate the "One Buu Yao" agenda ahead of the impending by-election in the district.

In the next ninety (90) days, the National Elections Commission is expected to issue a Writ of Election for the conduct of the impending Representative By-Election in Nimba County Electoral District 5 to fill the vacancy created by the election of Senator Samuel G. Kogar to the Liberian Senate.

According to reports, Buutuo has been earmarked as the tentative venue to host the office of the National Elections Commission for the conduct of the upcoming Representative By-Election in Nimba Electoral District #5

But the Senior Elections Magistrate in Upper Nimba, Milton G. Paye, said he selected the area because it has a lot of infrastructures needed by the NEC to run the election outside of its offices in Sanniquellie, though the decision to use Buutuo is yet to be endorsed by his bosses in Monrovia.

Over the weekend, citizens of Yao Chiefdom convened a meeting aimed at rallying the Yao chiefdom's support for a united political front ahead of the upcoming election.

During the day-long meeting, the citizens re-emphasized the importance of fostering unity among the inhabitants of the district, insisting that supporting Hon. Jackson Suomie Yuo to contest the upcoming by-election is the best choice for the people of Buu Yao.

They noted that Hon. Yuo is a "down-to-earth" leader and lauded him for his numerous contributions to the growth and development of the district.

They meanwhile pledged their support to the impending official endorsement of Hon. Yuo, which is expected to take place soon in the chiefdom.

They then expressed their overwhelming support to his candidacy and committed themselves to working together as a unified front to ensure victory for Team Yuo.

For his part, the Chiefdom Coordinator of Team Yuo in Yao Chiefdom, Mr. Dorwon Z. Fangar, reassured the attendees of Hon. Yuo's commitment to community development.

According to Mr. Fangar, his political leader recognizes the leadership of Yao Chiefdom, emphasizing that the development of Buu Yao encompasses the interest of all of the chiefdoms in that district.

Team Yuo continues to make significant impact on the lives of citizens of Nimba County Electoral District 5.

The political leader, Hon. Jackson Suomie Yuo's extensive contributions to individuals in need and community development initiatives in the district position him ahead of his opponents as the people of the district prepare for the representative by-election in the coming days.

Team Yuo Holds first political gathering

Yuo has begun political engagements with citizens of his district to 'seal the deal' ahead of the impending by-election.

The executive members transitioned their institution from the Yuo Foundation to the Team Yuo or the Yuo Movement.

Speaking in a special remark Thursday, the political leader of the movement, Hon. Jackson S. Yuo, said it was an honor serving his people as the CEO of the foundation, but noted that the time is coming when he will anticipate the involvement of his people in a bid to enhance representation, oversight and lawmaking on behalf of people of district 5 in Nimba County.

Hon. Jackson S. Yuo meanwhile acknowledged that he is willing to listen to the calls of his people and that he is throwing his hat in the impending race as soon as he is called upon.

"We will continue from where Hon. Kogar stopped and we intend to go beyond in effecting quality leadership for our people. As we await the petition from our people back home-people who are witnesses to our leadership pedigree, I am calling on all of you to keep your eyes on targets and our automate goal. Our targets are the legible voters of district 5 and our goal is to get them on our side to secure a win for our district", Hon. Yuo announced.

The political leader meanwhile intimated that several appointments have been made on his team to represent the various chiefdoms of Buu Yao.

"...I want the involvement of all of our people in this political maneuvering. I call it maneuvering because we are going to lobby with the remaining population of our people to support the aspirations of the majority who are entreating us to engage this process. My team will not make a mark if we don't come together as a people", Hon. Admitted.

The political leader then set up various committees, comprising the media and communications, Planning and Strategy, Security, Incident, Response and Battle-Cry, Community Engagement, Transportation and Logistics, and the Mobilization and Recruitment, Legal, Traditional and Religious committees.

The political movement also has a Youth wing, and a women wing that will ensure the involvement of crosscutting members of the district.

The committees were then tasked with the responsibility to kickoff activities intended to fast track massive engagements ahead of the impending by-election in Nimba County Electoral District 5.

"Inasmuch as we now have our various leaderships, we look forward to receiving your workplans so as to make sure that our structure in the district is involved with our plans for victory in the coming days, weeks, months and years", Hon. Yuo concluded.

As it stands, several former candidates of the district are beginning to tighten their belts for the political showdown.

According to the new elections law, the Legislature is required, within 90 days, to inform The National Elections Commission about the existence of a vacancy within the Legislature.

Following the issuance of the "Writ of Election" by the NEC, activities for the electoral process will get underway.

CMC picks B Mack Gblinwon for the April 22 polls
March 8, 2025

Saclepea-The Citizens Movement for Change, a newly established political party of Nimba County Electoral District 7 representative, Musa Hassan Bility has endorsed Hon. B Mack Gblinwon as its candidate for the impending senatorial by-election in the county.

Hon. Gblinwon had been a devout political "godson and supporter" of deceased Nimba County Senator Prince Yormie Johnson from 2005 to the demise of the late senator.

Meanwhile, he was one of those "Ganta friends" who encouraged VP Jeremiah Kpan Kouhn to get involved with Liberian politics ahead of the 2011 elections.

Making the pronouncement Saturday, the political leader of the CMC, Hon. Musa Hassan Bility averred that the selection of Hon. Gblinwon was an intrepid step aimed at informing Liberians that the political paradigm shift in the country requires brave and astute characters for such undertaking.

He however acknowledged that the action of his party to select Hon. Glinwon as its candidate was a "litmus test", admitting however, that he was confident because of his candidate's relationship with the people of Nimba County.

He then called on Nimbaians to rally support for their son who he said, is prepared to change the political narratives of their county.

Meanwhile, supporters of the CMC are hailing Hon. Gblinwon for the decision to join their political institution.

Addressing concerns of his political viability in Nimba politics, most of the supporters who spoke with reporters named Hon. Gblinwon's roles in the elections of deceased senator Prince Yormie Johnson in 2005, 2011 (when PYJ ran for the Liberian presidency), 2014 and 2023 respectively, the two times representative election victories of current VP Jeremiah Kpan Kouhn in 2011 and 2017 respectively and one time senatorial election victory in 2020 of the Liberia vice president.

They also underscored the one time representative election victory of former Nimba County Electoral District 4 representative, Hon Gunpue L Kargon, terming it as clear testament of the former Nimba County Inspector's political prowess in the county.

The supporters claimed that Hon. Gblinwon was a catalyst in these political maneuverings and he still stands prepared to bring victory to their party.

They contended that Hon. Gblinwon's presence on the ticket of the CMC is a force to reckon with, not only for the April 22, 2025 election, but also the 2029 General and Presidential Elections in Liberia.

As it stands, Nimbaians are looking forward to a peaceful election later next month as they are upbeat to elect a successor of their fallen political "godfather", Sen. Prince Yormie Johnson.
