Rape Court Rules

The judge of the Sexual Offences Court at the 8th Judicial Circuit Court in Nimba County, Cllr. Hector W. Quoiguoah has pre-sentenced two men for raping a 13-year-old and 3-year-old girls respectively to probation imprisonment in Sanniquellie.

Prince Mangbene, age 17, was convicted of statutory rape of a 3-year old girl, while Ezekiel Gonyon, age 32 and Yeanlor Yleah were convicted of Gang Rape of a 13-year-old girl in Gbao Zontuo Town.

Gang Rape is the felony of the first degree according to the New Penal Law of Liberia and it is punishable by life imprisonment.

According to report, Prince Mangbene committed the act in Garr Zuluyee in July 2020 when the mother of the 3-year-old girl had left her in the kitchen on their farm and gone to fetch water in a nearby stream.

The report put it that Prince Mangbene then took the victim in her parents' corn farm and sexually abused her.

According to the court ruling Wednesday, both convicts will serve a pre-sentencing and probation imprisonment to be monitored by probation officers.

Judge Quoigoah furthered that the pre-sentencing and probation will consider community service and good conduct with respect to the community, stating that a violation of the probation by the convict will lead to a prison sentence.

Probation is a sentencing procedure in which instead of the court sentencing a person convicted of a crime to imprisonment, the court releases the person to the supervision of a probation officer.

"Team Wonkeryon" lights Sanniquellie and Yarpea...

Sanniquellie, March 30, 2022 (R. Nimba News): A political movement in Nimba County Electoral District 2, "Team Wonkeryon", has broken ground for the erection of over 75 solar energy light poles in about 31 communities in his district.

Team Wonkeryon is fielding in the race a son of Duo Gorton in Yarpea Mah Administrative District, seeking to replace Representative Prince O. S Tokpah as Liberians go to the polls in 2023.

The erection of the light poles, according to Mr. Wonkeryon was a way of giving back to his community. Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony in Soepea Wednesday, the young aspirant maintained that "lightening up his community" is not a requirement for him to contest any election in Liberia. But according to Wonkeryon, he met the constitutional requirements and benchmark to run, noting that the initiative was "just a gift from the bottom of his heart".

The young educator who said the erection will simultaneously take place in the remaining towns and villages following the groundbreaking then called on the townspeople to consider the light as their own property and protect the poles as "light is development and light is life".

For their parts, the Administrative District Commissioners of Sanniquellie Mah and Yarpea Mah, Yealue W. Yealue and Sam Karnue extolled Team Wonkeryon for what they termed as a milestone development that is about to sweep across their respective districts put smile on the faces of their people.

Speaking to Charles Wonkeryon's political ambition, the two local administrators of Sanniquellie Mah and Yarpea Mah intimated that if all politicians would decide to undertake similar initiative, Nimba County Electoral District 2 would be the most beautiful district in the county.

Meanwhile the people of Soepea were seen dancing and chanting songs of praises to Team Wonkeryon as they gave their blessings to the young man they called their "son" and the "bringer of light" to their community.

The Wednesday groundbreaking saw the digging and casting of the basement that will serve as the foundation and pillars upon which the poles will be screwed to mount the solar plate and the light bulb.

Rep. Dorwoan Gleekia Gives Helping Hand to Market women

Pynesville-March 28, 2022 (R.Nimba News): Nimba County Electoral District 6 Rep. Dorwoan T. Gleekia has begun dishing out money to market women in his district.

The latest move by the lawmaker put smile on the faces of "market women" of Kparblee Administrative District when their representative gave about US$2000.00 as a "start-up" for their business endeavor.

Speaking to WakeUp Nimba Monday Rep. Gleekia noted that the initiative was part of campaign promises he made to women of his district back in 2017.

Responding to critics who are insinuating that he was softening the political grounds for his re-election bid in the upcoming 2023 Representative and Presidential Elections in Liberia when he will be seeking second term, Rep. Gleekia intimated that he would never "induce" his people with cash to get him reelected.

He meanwhile recalled that his election in 2017 was not influenced by cash; insisting that has deeds as lawmaker for Nimba's district six over the past five years were enough to get him reelected to the Liberian parliament in 2023.

Rep. Gleekia then disclosed that besides giving about US$2000.00 to "market women" of Kparblee Administrative District and spending about 50,000LRD to transport the women back to the district, his office will shortly institute a loan scheme put at a little over a Million Librarian Dollars with no interest rate.

Calling on the show, listeners of Radio Nimba who followed the radio program lauded the representative for the initiative.

They pointed out that whether campaign money or not, moves that are intended to empower women, especially "striving market women", should be appreciated.

They noted that although 2023 elections are fast approaching and people would always politicize any "atom of kindness" from politicians, electorates need to show appreciations to people who would identify with them irrespective of political affiliations.
