JFK Nurse Paola Bedell Freed on Temporary Basis After Arrest Over False Ebola Claims, Police Say Investigation Remains Open

BY: Rufus Divine Brooks Jr.

Monrovia — Nurse Paola N. Bedell, who was arrested on Saturday, May 23, 2026, on allegations of spreading false information about an Ebola outbreak in Liberia, has been released on a temporary basis after her legal team secured her freedom.

Police confirmed the release but said the investigation remains active as authorities seek to determine intent behind the statements.

Officials did not provide a timeline for when the inquiry would be concluded.

Bedell’s arrest followed public claims she made regarding a suspected Ebola case, which health authorities said were inconsistent with official reports.

The Ministry of Health has maintained that there are no confirmed, probable, or suspected Ebola cases in Liberia as of its latest update.

Legal representatives for Bedell said she was released pending further proceedings and declined to comment further while the matter is under investigation.

Liberia’s laws on the dissemination of false information carry penalties if intent to cause public alarm or disruption is established.

Ganta City, Nimba County-Liberia-------The administration of Success Foundation High School conducted a five-day mock test ahead of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), to prepare students, foster self-encouragement, and encourage independent work.

The mock test was conducted using the same methods and techniques applied in the public examination. During the test, the administration commended the students' willingness to learn and urged them to avoid malpractice to uphold the institution's reputation and image.

Speaking during the test, students expressed excitement about being part of an exercise that would build their confidence and motivate them to perform well.
